DUDE.... don't you think it would be more helpful if you said the name of all the apartments... you did some.. but not all. But, if I just missed it, my bad.. :)

Most of these buildings don't have names, I couldn't find a couple of them even though I had Google Maps and the address. This video was only meant to show what sort of accommodation is available at the cheaper end of the market right now, for exact address's and contact information, all of these apartments can be found on the various Siem Reap Facebook groups and Facebook Marketplace.

Wichita: twice the rental price, half (or less) the winter temp - which makes the pool a non-player and when you wake up in the morning: you're in Kansas. Living and traveling in Asia (Vietnam, Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos) is the best decision I ever made in terms of happiness, cost, tasty food, and living an adventurous expat life. Keep these videos coming, I'm learning from them for my visit late January.

I'm old and retired in the US - looking for an "ideal retirement destination" - and Siem Reap appears to be it ? Been looking for about 3 years - all around the world..... and where your at really appeals to me ! The place is awesome from what I can tell - having everything needed it seems for quite a comfortable life ? Cost of living would be quite comfortable for me on about half of my SS income - allowing savings for emergencies - some travel for enjoyment - and trips to Bangkok for superb medical care yearly. ---- A frugal budget might be about $800 / mo. or so most months ? - - - Thank you Matt for some terrific insight into what can be had. Being older I would certainly want elevators - if needed - and generators for power outages would be nice ? Likely will cost more for such things ? A video for such places would be much appreciated - again as thrifty as possible on the prices ! Might not be easy ? - - - All the best ! -- I subscribed and look forward for more from you. 👍🙏✌🎯🍻

Hi, I actually made a video on exactly that subject, a basic frugal budget for people interested in retiring here, you should check it out, you might find it helpful: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ioK6pamXr8Rjrqc Regarding elevators, I haven't seen any but you won't find it difficult to find somewhere on the ground floor. And some places do have generators but honestly I haven't found power cuts to be an issue even in the rainy season.

@@mattmck360 Finally, a place where it might be possible to live on $1000/month! Been kicking the tires on Da Nang as well. Of course there would be visa/residency issues- do you just make sure to spend less than 180 days in a country to avoid tax complications?

You can also find a $200 apartment in BKK with an elevator. In contrary to a lot of people's belief, Cambodia is actually more expensive than Thailand but you get lower quality in everything. That's because they rely too much on imports and their currency isn't as stable as Thai baht. Unless you like a raw and quiet place, Bangkok has wider range of budgets you can go cheap or luxury if you want. Most expats want to stay in the most luxury they can afford and pay more but you don't need to. $125 studios are everywhere, $200 1-br apartments are everywhere in BKK as well. BKK apartments are not just high-rise buildings. However, if you have issues like walking difficulty, both countries may not be suitable for disabled people yet.

I’m curious to hear from Canadian ex-pats in Cambodia in regard to Cambodia not having a tax treaty with Canada. How does that affect your retirement income from Canada ?
@KhmerMinnesnowta16 күн бұрын
Taxes do not affect any social security income from any countries in Cambodia!
@Pukie91616 күн бұрын
@KhmerMinnesnowta my apologies. I meant in regard to Canada taxing it. For example, if I went to the Philippines or Vietnam, Canada would only tax my income from my pension and other sources a maximum of 25%. If my research is correct, if I emigrated to a country without a tax treaty, then Canada would tax my income as if I was still a resident of Canada.

I will be coming with a business visa in hand and would like to start a (small to begin with) business. Thank you for this video of the area and apartments, it was perfect. Do you have an email that you would be willing to share? I would then give you my phone number in Canada (not to call on the phone) but to talk face to face on WhatsApp, via a video call, it's free. Or if you know of a better way to connect that would be ok also. I really hope to hear from you. Thank you.........Jay

To start a business you'll need to get the e-type visa either online or at the airport and then one of the agencies can help you to incorporate the business once you're here, from what I remember its pretty straight forward and not that expensive.
