I agree with one of the commenters - this sounds very much like a hit piece. While a lot of RFK Jr.'s points are pro-government/anti-liberty positions, they are no worse than any other candidate. He did espouse some good and pro-liberty positions, such as pulling out of Ukraine and being against forced vaccinations - both of which Stossel attacked him for. That is hardly pro-liberty on Stossel's part. Also of note, the reason some call him a nut job is because he is willing to take on the sacred cow of vaccinations. Vaccines are based on bad science and have no reason to allow them much less force people (especially vulnerable children) to take them. I wonder if Google will censor this comment because of what I just said.

This isn’t a good sampling of his positions. The thing that gets in RFK’s way is the fact he doesn’t speak in sound bite and EVERY major news outlet and legacy media mouthpiece (including, apparently, Stossel) is set on trying condense a 2 hr interview into a 6 minute clip with 3 minutes of editorializing. If Stossel has no agenda, he would post the long form and let you decide. Instead he chops up what was almost certainly a long, considerate, and detailed answer into 10 seconds of RFK speaking and 30 seconds of Stossel telling you what he said. CBS tried to do the same thing. At least they had the decency to release a 45 minute chunk of the interview a few days after their hit piece… and that 45 minute interview has people start supporting RFK because they got to see his true responses, not the hack job attempts to sound bite him (like Stossel did here).

This sound bite of RFK JR. does not do him justice, especially with the housing crisis. His position on the housing crisis is that the prices of housing is so high because of corporations such as blackrock buying up all of the single family homes and reselling them at a much higher cost than what they bought them at, and since they own about 50% of all single family homes now, they arbitrarily rose the prices of homes. His solution is to make a tax code that discourages this sort of behaviour, thus causing a surge of houses in the market to appear which will lower price as the supply of houses will be much closer to the demand of houses
@acem824 ай бұрын
A 50% share of the market will *not* allow one to move prices more than a tiny amount. He wants to subsidize Americans buying houses ...which any good Economist will tell you will actually make the prices go up. It will also (obviously) lead to another housing bubble. The reason why houses are so expensive are *all* governmental, increase the money supply making the dollar less valuable, then take those dollars and use resources (and labor) to do what they want instead of allowing people in the market to determine what they want, which is housing. The dollar is worth less and there are fewer resources to do what non-governmental actors want, such as build houses. Basically, blame this all on the Federal Reserve. (And a bit more on the rest of the government for stupid regulations.) -An Economist
@eurekahope53104 ай бұрын
Where are you getting the 50% number. The closest I have seen is 37%. Of that 37%, the majority of landlords are individual owners (such as a son who inherited his parents' house or a couple who bought a vacation home). I am fine with limiting or ending corporate ownership, as well as ending ownership by foreign individuals unless it is their primary dwelling. The larger problem is lack of supply and too much demand. Our population has increased dramatically with immigration in the past few years. People need places to live. And while our population has increased, government regulation makes providing more supply unattractive to builders. So unless RFJ is willing to reduce demand (deport) or increase supply (ease regulations, minimum wage, increase energy supply, etc.), more government programs will not lower the true cost of housing.

@Delimon0074 ай бұрын
It does work. . . the problem is that no laws were put into place to protect people or stop colleges from charging absurd amounts to the students. It's working so well now that many colleges are shutting down because demand has dried up due to their price hikes being too much. Out of all the places that are still capitalist, colleges are one of them and the result is showing now. So either colleges wise up or they shut down. The more difficult issue for the Libertarian Party (I been around it a long long time) has always been it's role as a political party and getting people elected or making the philosophy heard by voters. In short relevance vs purity. For me this year I'm casting my vote for Kennedy just as I changed registration for Ron Paul during those Republican primaries. Chase I'm sure is a good man and I appreciate his running as there is nothing but costs in doing so. For me however this year I will see Kennedy as heading in the right direction of liberty. The right direction he offers has an outside chance of getting us as a country not blown up both financially and literally and making it to 2028. Cutting the deficit and getting out of Ukraine are far from from being full libertarian but even I took some time to understand the full power of the philosophy.
