One other addition that I think makes it the best sports game. The gameplay isn't animation driven, it's physics driven. There's never any point in Rocket League (apart from the rare "ghost" ball) where I feel like the game has screwed me over, it's always a mistake I've made, or a good play the opponent made that resulted in a goal. So many sports games are so animation based that there is entire exploits (and videos on how to do the exploits) to take advantage of the animations to win a game (glitch goals in NHL, specific OP animations in 2K, specific shot types in FIFA etc). If you want to be elite at other sports video games, it revolves around abusing game mechanics and bugs to ensure you're unbeatable, whereas being Elite in Rocket League means being amazing at controlling your car, having good situational awareness and smart gameplay.
