Great video. One correction about SSRI lowering your sodium, it does this through a process called SIADH. which means when you pee you hold in water and not salt, which dilutes the salt in your blood. This does not happen to everyone, but if you drink a lot of water this will make it “worse”. Usually the people this causes problems for is older adults, I prefer Drinks with electrolytes like sugar free Gatorade

For how much I'd rather see shamanism than sailing, and for how against sailing I am as a concept, part of me is excited at the potential implications for what creative advancements can come as a byproduct of this movement system (and what's essentially a game entity) re-design. Like even if they scrap sailing right this second, they've still experimented with concepts and developed tech that could be deployed on land. Slow-moving platforms across raids, for example. Giant machines that can be boarded as they walk across the overworld. Whatever. Point is, there's a lot they could repurpose these struggles into. And that's sick from a creative perspective. But between the two, shamanism just felt much more like Runescape to me. Sailing as a concept feels like it has to be external to OSRS by its very nature. And their struggles in development are a direct reflection of this exact issue. Designing things the game was never meant to do, in places the game was never meant to go, to do things the game was never meant to offer. In other words, NOT runescape. It's just the way that it is.

In 2024, we've had 7 new quests including a grand master quest. 4 new PvM encounters, (moons, scurrius, araxxor and the coliseum). The hunter's guild was added and hunter rumors. A new prayer training method. With a lot of these packaged with a new bloody continent. We've had more content released for OSRS in 2024 than in any previous year since OSRS launched, and we're only 3/4 of the way though the year. People who are saying sailing isn't worth it because it's taking too much development time are insane. Reality is, sailing is something they've had on the back burner letting it cook for awhile while they solved the hard problems. The unity project was new hires and outside teams mostly recreating OSRS, not the main developers of the game. Also, a new skill is the most complicated and difficult part of OSRS. The team has no experience with developing new skills, and you have so much work that has to go into creating it and figuring out how it will interact with every other part of the game. Nobody has to think about a new raid might affect and interact with other skills like hunter, woodcutting, construction, etc. If they touch those skills at all, they're consumers and won't affect the wider supply, demand and opportunities those skill have. Any new skill was going to take a year+ to figure that out, and we all knew we were voting for the most ambitious skill with sailing. Let the cooks fucking cook.

IMO they missed a very important question after the sailing vs shamanism poll. The question being "Sailing has been voted on as the most liked of the skill proposals, should we develop it more? yes or no. It never passed a 70% poll, and while I get thats because it hasn't been voted in yet. A skill is a huge endeavor and the concept of the skill alone should be good enough to get a 70% vote to be pursued. Personally, I liked the shamanism the best as it sounded the most like a traditional skill, but none of the skill proposals interested me all that much and they should have proposed more options.

Crazy idea, what if they did a new raid but it was in fremmenik area and was about the penguins. Insanely schizophrenic but I think it would be very funny if Cold War 2 came to this and was a master quest

They said on the recent discord stages stream that navigation is definitely the biggest task for the skill. Husky said he’s now working on the barracuda trials. Elena said her and Lenny are working on how ship combat works. I don’t mind how long it’s taking overall to come to the game I’m just a little bummed it’s gonna be another 5ish months till we got an open beta. Hopefully they’re delaying it that much because they want a more fleshed out trial with combat and interesting courses for the test and not just have us moving around and maybe a few port tasks. The live stream should be uploaded on KZbin sometime soon.

They are most likely developing content side by side with the mechanics. I doubt boat movement is the ONLY thing that they have been working on.

I wasn't playing when everything was originally polled but I think I'd go with Sailing. If done correctly I can see it adding a new layer of gameplay that Shamanism can't. I could be misunderstanding the skill but shamanism's upgrades seems like a way to introduce invention upgrades from RS3. OSRS players HATE power creep so I see the skill failing to live up to its full potential due to endless failed blog posts . On the other hand Sailing could open the game to new skilling training methods, quests, raids/bosses, change existing bosses (fighting kraken in the open waters), and last but certainly not least, minigames. Hear me out SAILING. CASTLE. WARS. Capture the flag out at sea. Do you pick the fast ship to swoop in and grab the flag? Do you choose the slow ship to make a blockade? There are endless possibilities with sailing that Shamanism can't offer. Fishing: Kind of obvious. Agility: Dive for sunken treasure and your agility dictates how long you can stay under water. Crafting: Better sails to move faster Smithing: Build a steel ship instead of a wooden ship Firemaking: Somehow make cannonballs you're firing more powerful with different types of flames (kind of like the different cannonballs in Sea of Thieves) Herblore: New potions that cure something like trench foot when a boss splashes water on your boat I am also very curious how much OSRS on mobile is impacting the way the skill will work. Having to click a bunch of different options while also trying to click where to go on an iPhone sounds really difficult and could have a lot of limitations.
