The hardest people in my experience to convey the simple truth of saving faith are those who had parents who took them to church when they were young and walked away as teens or young adults, because they were taught "conditional faith" and felt it was hopeless. In fact that was my experience exactly! I'm glad I found GES and others who pointed out the simple truth of saving faith scripturally or I'd still be lost.

That was me exactly. Grew up in a works base cult. By the time I was an adult, I pretty much thought I'd never be good enough for heaven. Thank God he brought my husband into my life 34 years ago. I finally got saved. I struggle even to this day with that cult. I did witness to my mom (before she died) and 2 of my sisters. My dad, who divorced my mom 45 years ago is a tough nut to Crack though. He's 80 now and I'm praying me, my husband or someone can witness to him before he dies.

I believe saving faith requires Repentance - but not as it is so widely misunderstood - instead, it means a change of mind - a change from self-reliance to the realisation that you are a hopelessly lost sinner, who cannot save yourself and, as such, are in need of the Saviour who you turn to in life-changing belief - yes, in mental assent but equally deep in your heart - there is a spiritual transformation - it is this process that makes us born-again and seals us by the Holy Spirit. At that moment, we become eternally sealed and secure, but our battle with our old flesh is only just starting!

You don't have to move a muscle or do anything to be saved. Let me explain. You are sitting and stare into space, while you are listening to the radio. A radio show comes on, which presents the Gospel. You hear, understand, and believe the gospel. Once you believe the gospel, you are saved. And you remain saved permanently. So, if you continue to sit there and stare into space, you will remain saved. But wait, if you just sit there and stare into space, are you not sinning? Well, is not giving or sharing your resources with the poor a sin? But if you just sit there and not move a muscle, you are not giving anything to anybody. Is not sharing the gospel a sin? But if you just sit there and not move a muscle, you are not sharing the gospel with anyone. Is not helping some disabled family member a sin? But if you just sit there and not move a muscle, you are not helping anyone. Then after you listened to the gospel show on the radio and believed, the Howard Stern show comes on. But if you just sit there and not change the radio station, are you are refraining from hearing bad things of the world? So there you go, you can be saved by just believing, not move a muscle. Now if you do give, share, help, refrain from the world, you can expect extra rewards from God, but you can't say any such activity is required. So there is simplicity in Christ (2 Corinthians 11:3), it is not complicated to just believe the gospel.

What I think that missing is this: God laid out a promise, in the Old Testament , showing how he was going to handle the sin issue, through the Word and the Prophets. He explains from Gen 3:15 throughout the OT the coming of the Messiah, what he would suffer and what a person needed to do. This is why in 1Cor 15 (Co 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 1Co 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: ) The scriptures Paul is speaking of are the OT prophecies concerning Christ. So, salvation is Believing Gods promise and in doing so trust that Jesus and his work on the Cross (death, burial and resurrection) was the fulfilment of that promise.

In Acts 10, let's see how Cornelius was saved, without works. Peter visits Gentile Cornelius and explains the Gospel to him and his friends, that Jesus was killed, and resurrected (Acts 10:39-40); and "whoever believes in him shall receive remission of sins" (Acts 10:43) (Note, I am NOT saying this is the complete, current gospel, see below). Then while Peter was speaking, the people received the Holy Ghost. So they were saved, permanently (Acts 10:44). But wait, no one was baptized yet. It wasn't until later that Peter recommended baptism in water (Acts 10:47). And Peter mentions that Jesus gives remission of sins, but didn't mention that Cornelius needed to give up sins (Acts 10:43). Even if he did, there's no way Cornelius could have removed all sin from his life within a few seconds. So, if someone said "No, I'm good, I don't want to get wet, it will mess up my hair", would God had then Said "Oops, sorry, that Holy Ghost was a mistake, I take it back."? Or would God have said to Cornelius, "Oops, wait a minute, I just remembered that bad thought you had about Mrs. Jones last week ... that Holy Spirit was a mistake, I take it back. Now go think some good things about Mrs. Jones for a while. Come back later and we'll try that salvation thing again. And also take care of that 2 cents tax you didn't pay."? So if you get to the judgement seat, and God says, "Hey, I see you had faith in Jesus, but I see that you committed sin X, so, sorry I can't let you in to Heaven", ask God, "But what law did I violate, I was reading the books of Romans thru Philemon (the books directed primarily to the current Church), and it said there was no law in effect (Romans 10:4), I am dead to the law (Galatians 2:19), the law can't condemn me (Romans 8:1), what are you talking about?. Then God will say, "OK, let me get out my files." Then God will begin looking thru his papers and say, "I know that document is here somewhere, give me a minute, I'll find it ... hmmmm, where did I put that document?" "Oh, wait a minute that law document, I remember my son Jesus took that and nailed it to his cross (Colossians 2:14), it was cancelled. Sorry about that, you're right, Jesus bought salvation for you, come on into Heaven." But what if you sinned deliberately, willfully after you understood the gospel? God will say, "But remember the time you did Sin Z, repeatedly?". You will say, "Yeah, I know, that wasn't my greatest work. But still, show me the law I violated." The law remains nailed to the cross. God will say, "OK, come into heaven; I won't be able to give you great rewards and priveleges, but my Son bought the ticket for you, I will keep my promise and let you in." Some people say, "Isn't this a license to sin?". When we accept Jesus as saviour, God guarantees that the performance of Jesus is sufficient to get us to heaven (Romans 5:8-11). He doesn't guarantee our good performance. He does guarantee that He will work with us to complete his work in us (Phillipians 1:6). He is known to send "reminders" that we are not setting a good example, and need to resist sin better (Hebrews 12:5-11). This can include very severe discipline (1 Corinthians 5:1-5), and can even take us home to heaven early (Acts 5:1-10; 1 Corinthians 11:27-30). This is not because God is mad at us, he is doing his job, and wants us to have a better life now, and more rewards in heaven. Just remember that the most recent Gospel was given to Paul, by Jesus Christ (Galatians 1:11-12). The current Church will be judged by this gospel (Romans 2:16); this includes Jews and Gentiles (Romans 1:16). Note that Paul refers to this as "my gospel". That Gospel is stated in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4: "How that Christ died for our sins ... And that he was buried, and rose again the third day according to the scriptures (prophecies)". The King James version includes the word "How". How did Christ die for our sins? By blood sacrifice (Romans 3:25; Romans 5:8-9). Salvation is still by faith alone (Romans 3:26-28), but remember to include faith in the blood of Jesus.

Acts 2:38 And Peter said to them, “Repent [change your old way of thinking, turn from your sinful ways, accept and follow Jesus as the Messiah] and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ because of the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39For the promise [of the Holy Spirit] is for you and your children and for all who are far away [including the Gentiles], as many as the Lord our God calls to Himself.” Acts 3:19 So repent [change your inner self--your old way of thinking, regret past sins] and return [to God--seek His purpose for your life], so that your sins may be wiped away [blotted out, completely erased], so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord [restoring you like a cool wind on a hot day]

@@2Chronicles714_ There has been confusion over the definition of "Repent". This comes from the Greek word "Metanoia". It seems the most accurate meaning is "Change of mind, change of heart, going in a different direction", rather than to stop committing individual sins. But let's assume "Repent" does in fact mean stopping specific sin(s). What does the Bible say about that? In Romans 3:23, we find that "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God." OK, so we know that sin has affected all humans (of accountability condition). God is holy, and cannot allow even one little sin into Heaven; in the default condition, no humans could enter Heaven. And it doesn't matter whether the sin is "You accidentally said a bad word back in 1998", or "You killed millions of people because you didn't like their race"; either sin would exclude you from Heaven. But the issue though is not individual sins; the problem is the inherently sinful nature of humans, as descended from Adam (Romans 5:12). Humans are inherently under condemnation. But we have a problem here. God is "Not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." (2 Peter 3:9). OK, so God wants all people to "Repent". In order to do this to a sufficient level to be saved, people would have to do one of the following: 1. Remove all sin from their life, never sin again, and do something to make up for their past sin; or 2. Change their DNA so they are not descended from Adam; or 3. Something else. Well, I'm not aware of anyone who can accomplish items (1) or (2). If you can, tell us your secret. So the solution must be (3), Something Else, and "Something Else" must be something that God knows can be reasonably achieved by humans. So God said, "OK, I can forgive sin through a blood sacrifice. But it has to be a perfect human. But I have a solution: I will send my Son to earth, and I will be His Father, not descended from Adam. And since He is fully God, he will never sin. So there we go, He will accomplish items (1) and (2), and give a blood sacrifice. But he doesn't need the sacrifice for himself, so he has the authority to give it to others." Sooo... it looks like the only way to get forgiveness of sins is by accepting the sacrifice of Jesus Christ (Romans 3:25). God says this is a free gift, by the grace of God (Romans 5:15-21). Grace cannot be earned by work (Romans 11:6). Is "Not Sinning" a work? Yes. For example let's consider "Not giving to the poor" as a sin. The only way to avoid this sin is by giving to the poor. OK, how much? Well, see Matthew 19:16-22; Jesus tells someone that to be "perfect", he must give away everything he owns. Yeah, that seems like a work. Sooo... not sinning is a work. What do we get for work? Wages. We don't get a free gift or grace through work, we get earnings. Sooo... if God wants to give us a free gift, we don't say, "Wait a minute, I don't want that gift right now, I need to do some work for that gift."; we should say, "Oh wow, thank you, I know I don't deserve this, but this is a good gift and I will accept it.". We do this by (1) Recognizing that we are sinners who need forgiveness, (2) Having Faith/Trust/Belief that Jesus earned forgiveness for us; and (3) Accepting his mercy; not counting on any activity on our part to earn it. I'm not saying that Believers should sin; but sin is a discipline/blessings/rewards issue, not a free gift issue.

Warning; Long Question: Is there really such a thing as someone who says, "Yep, I am convinced that Jesus died on the cross for me as an atonement for my sins, and I am convinced and convicted that if I believe on him, that God will justify me, see me as sinless, and apply Christ's righteousness to me......buuuut........it just ain't for me.....back to my hobby of Buddhism.".....I mean....1) does this exist?...and 2) if it does, is that person an adopted child of God? Is this really what the Gospel tells us? Is following him, rendering ourselves slaves to righteousness, walking in newness of life, behaving as adopted sons & daughters, having Christ "formed in us".....are these not things that are just part and parcel of true belief, notwithstanding the backslider or the proverbial prodigal son? I am talking about true belief in the Son of God. Does the mental assent to Him and His redemptive work ever just stand by itself, untouched by a changed life (albeit even baby-step changes)? Is it really possible (and thus necessary) to separate these two things? Again, does anybody 1) truly mentally assent to the redemptive work of the Son of God on their behalf without acting on that assent in some way (unlike someone who mentally assents to some trivial circumstance, like "yes, there are 5 magazines on the end table in the waiting room at the dentist's office")? I have a hard time even getting to point two, i.e. is someone who has ONLY that mental asset saved. I have a hard time believing the first situation even exists. Our behavior is often affected by even the most mundane circumstances (the number of magazines on the end table). Is there really anyone who IS TRULY CONVINCED THAT something as weighty as the fact that their ETERNAL DESTINY hangs on the work of Jesus, yet just goes "yep.....true." and goes about living their life as if nothing happened? I have a hard time believing this. To me, it would seem this person is either mentally ill (like a person who steps in front of a semi-truck moving at 60mph, because they don't believe it exists), or this type of person just doesn't exist. Is this type of person in the Bible? Is the scripture presented here addressing such a person or situation? Is that how it's meant? I am not convinced that the scripture given in the video describes this situation. If this type of person IS in the Bible, where is there an example of one such person who is saved?

@@lakedays3708 In order to answer your question, I would want to clarify your word "required." "Required" as in some sort of "price of admission" or "prerequisite" or "form of payment" for justification?...NO WAY. We are saved by grace, not by works. If, by "required," you mean an integral part of being born again, then yes, good works would be "required," i.e. "included in." Somewhere in Ephesians, Paul says we are created by God "unto good works." It is a part of being born again. I am not saying that I am some sort of fruit inspector requiring others to demonstrate their good works, or that we could "lose our salvation (another fiction)" if we don't have good works. We don't earn salvation. Our good works are filthy rags. However, God doesn't save us to wallow in our filth. He saves us FROM slavery to sin, and UNTO righteousness. I don't like how Wilkin sort of "filets" the born again experience so as to distill mere belief as the essence of the Christian experience. I understand a reasonable objection to some forms of "lordship salvation (what I call "works-ship salvation, like the kind that Ray Comfort and Todd Friel preach), but I object to this sort of distillation of mental assent as the essence of faith. *Believing the Message of Lordship Salvation Does Not Result in Eternal Life* Mike Lii, September 1, 2020 faithalone.org/grace-in-focus-articles/believing-the-message-of-lordship-salvation-does-not-result-in-eternal-life/ Back in the early 1990s, the subject of Lordship Salvation had arisen in the college fellowship that I was attending. This typically manifested itself with statements from my contemporaries along the lines of, “Well if you are not doing [insert a good work here] or if you are doing [insert a bad deed here], then I doubt you are really saved.” A few years prior, I had come to believe Jesus’ promise of eternal life (John 3:16; Eph 2:8-9) and through the efforts of my church’s high school fellowship was assured of my eternal destiny because of this belief. So, statements such as the above bothered me as they seemed to introduce works into the saving message that I had been taught previously. John MacArthur had become very popular among the leaders of this church’s college fellowship. However, these leaders’ statements on the subject had been confined to expressing doubts about salvation of others based on their works. I did not understand what was meant by the expression Lordship Salvation. Still, I realized that I needed to investigate this, because if I misunderstood the terms of eternal salvation, then I was wrong on the most important issue of all-how one receives eternal life. I proceeded to order John MacArthur’s The Gospel According to Jesus and Zane Hodges’s Absolutely Free! I was not familiar with Zane Hodges and had never read any of his books or writings before. The reason I ordered Hodges’s Absolutely Free! was because it was available on clearance for $4.95. This would turn out to be the best $4.95 I had ever spent. Before and while reading these books, I would pray to God that He would help me to see the truth about salvation. I read John MacArthur’s book first and came away thinking that many of the interpretations seemed forced, were contrary to the plain meaning of the text of the passages, were contradictory (e.g., a gift that costs you everything), or, if correct, would mean that salvation is by works and not by faith, which contradicted other clear passages of Scripture. I read Zane Hodges’s book after MacArthur’s and came away impressed with interpretations that fit the text of the passage instead of twisting the text to fit one’s biases or preconceived theology (Luke 14:27-28; Luke 18:11-30; John 11:25-26; John 20:30-31; Rom 10:8-13; 1 Cor 9:24-27; 1 Tim 1:18-20). My conclusion after reading these books was that salvation is received by believing in Jesus Christ and that surrendering to Jesus as Lord of one’s life or repentance, defined as being willing to give up one’s sins, are not necessary in order to be saved. However, I was left with a question that troubled me. If you do what Lordship Salvation teaches you to do, will you be saved? My preliminary conclusion was that Lordship Salvation is not the saving message because it is not teaching that all who believe in Jesus alone for salvation are born again. Lordship Salvation teaches that someone must surrender to Jesus as Lord of his life and must be willing to give up his sins in order to be saved. That is not the message that Jesus and His apostles taught. This conclusion troubled me greatly, as it would mean that Lordship was not just a minor error, but one which, if believed, would not result in salvation. Now this was back in 1992, before e-mail, social media, and the worldwide web, so it was hard to contact someone without a personal connection. My conclusion continued to bother me, as the implications of Lordship Salvation being taught were very serious. I noticed in Absolutely Free! that there was a post office box address. So, I decided to write Zane Hodges at that address with the question of whether if one does what Lordship Salvation teaches, will that person be saved? In my letter, I explained my preliminary conclusion of “No.” Now, I was uncertain whether Hodges would respond, as I fully expected that someone who was an author published by a major Christian book publisher, a former seminary professor, and a pastor of a church, would not have the time for a personalized response to a college student asking questions. However, a few weeks after I wrote, I received a letter with the following response: Thank you for your letter of 5/18/92 and the encouraging words about Absolutely Free! I believe you have reached exactly the right conclusion about the salvation of those who profess Lordship Salvation. If such a person, at any time, has put his faith for eternal life in Christ alone, then he is surely saved (according to God’s promises) regardless of what he now believes. If, however, such a person has never trusted Christ alone, he then has trusted Christ plus his own commitment or works or fruit. This, of course, is not the Biblical gospel and thus cannot save anyone. As a matter of fact, there is reason to believe that some of the prominent Lordship teachers had, at one time, believed the Biblical gospel in its simplicity. If so, they are saved, but their responsibility before the Judgment Seat of Christ will be enormous. Thanks for writing. Your letter is certainly a model of clear thinking. God guide and bless you as you make known His grace! The question that I pondered almost 30 years ago remains a question that is still debated today. The answer to that question continues to be answered in John 11:25-27: Jesus said to her [Martha], “I am the Resurrection and the Life. He who believes in Me, even if he dies, will live. And everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?” “Yes, Lord,” she told Him, “I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world” (Logos 21 Version). Those who believe in the message of Lordship Salvation cannot answer like Martha did: “Yes, Lord.” That’s because Lordship Salvationists don’t believe “this.” Instead of believing Jesus’ words in John 11:25-26, they believe something else entirely: “He who surrenders his life to Jesus as Master and is willing to give up his sins, even if he dies, will live. And everyone who lives and surrenders his life to Jesus as Master and is willing to give up his sins, will never die.” One cannot believe what Lordship Salvation teaches as true and yet at the same time believe that Jesus gives eternal life to those who believe in Him for it. Eternal life is received by believing Jesus’ promise in John 11:25-26, and not by believing the message of Lordship Salvation or any message that requires commitment and works for salvation.

The gospel of our salvation FOR TODAY that Jesus Christ gave to our apostle, Paul, is stated in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4. Not in the Jewish gospels. My test, like the Amplified Bible states, is as follows. Are you BELIEVING IN, TRUSTING IN and RELYING UPON what Jesus Christ has DONE FOR YOU through his DEATH, BURIAL and RESURRECTION on your behalf and NOTHING ELSE? So, I would say that saving faith is more than mere mental assent. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 does not list any other conditions!

The gospel call to faith presupposes that sinners must repent of their sin and yield to Christ’s authority.” In other words, a sinner who refuses to repent is not saved, for he cannot cling to his sin and the Savior at the same time. And a sinner who rejects Christ’s authority in his life does not have saving faith, for true faith encompasses a surrender to God. Thus the gospel requires more than making an intellectual decision or mouthing a prayer; the gospel message is a call to discipleship. The sheep will follow their Shepherd in submissive obedience. Jesus’ repeated warnings to the religious hypocrites of His day as proof that simply agreeing to spiritual facts does not save a person. There must be a heart change. Jesus emphasized the high cost of discipleship: “Whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple” (Luke 14:27), and “Those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples” (verse 33). In the same passage, Jesus speaks of counting the cost; elsewhere, He stresses total commitment: “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God” (Luke 9:62). In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus says that eternal life is a narrow path found by “only a few” (Matthew 7:14); in contrast, some seek to broaden the path so that anyone who has a profession of faith can enter. Jesus says that “every good tree bears good fruit” (verse 17); in contrast, some say that a tree can still be good and bear nothing but bad fruit. Jesus says that many who say “Lord, Lord” will not enter the kingdom (verses 21-23); in contrast, some teach that saying “Lord, Lord” is good enough. Paul and James taught that a true profession of faith will be backed up by evidence of faith. If a person is truly following the Lord, then they will obey the Lord’s instructions. A person who is living in willful, unrepentant sin has obviously not chosen to follow Christ, because Christ calls us out of sin and into righteousness. Indeed, the Bible clearly teaches that faith in Christ will result in a changed life 2 Corinthians 5:15,17 Galatians 5:22-24 James 2:14-26.

”For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.“ Romans 10:4 NASB1995 John uses the word faith, believe or trust over 90 times alone.
@2Chronicles714_ Жыл бұрын
@alexkelley385 In John's gospel the word believe is always in the present continuous tense,which doesn't mean just believe once, it means go on believing. Everywhere in John's gospel the emphasis is going on believing. For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son that whosoever goes on believing- present continuous tense- Whoever is believing. It means to go on doing something, all the way through John's gospel it means go on believing that Jesus is the son of God, going on believing, you may go on having life. That whosoever goes on believing will never perish but go on having eternal life. Ask any expert in Greek and they will say that's what the original text says. In other words John's gospel was not written to convert people but to encourage believers to continue believing. That's why John doesn't deal with repentance or water baptism because he assumes the readers are already repented and been baptized. The fact that John doesn't mention repentance doesn't mean its not necessary. He's saying go on believing because in Ephesus, where John lived when he wrote it there was a heretic called Cerinthus that was teaching bad things about Jesus and that bad teaching was getting into the church. So John wrote his gospel for believers to encourage them go on believing in Jesus as the son of God. Believing that Jesus is the son of God, going on believing that you may go on having life. John doesn't say to Repent of sin. Other things left out are Jesus's birth, his water baptism, or the start of His earthly ministry. His temptation in the wilderness. Confronting demons, no parables,no mention of last supper, no ascension Does that mean John didn't believe those things happened? John says the word believe around 98 times. John's message is to encourage us to keep believing. And eyewitness evidence that Jesus is the Son of God. Whosoever Believes, (present continuous tense) What If scripture said Repent of sin, and you don't have to believe? Everyone would agree that makes absolutely no sense. Why would anyone Repent if they didn't believe? Jesus never once said Believe in Me for the forgiveness of sins. Luke 24:47 And REPENTANCE FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS will be preached in His name to all nations starting in Jerusalem. Repent and believe.

@2Chronicles714_ - Repent of ones sin is not the gospel and as such, it is not a biblical condition or element of salvation. No problem with repenting of sins, but it has nothing to do with being saved.
@2Chronicles714_ Жыл бұрын
@@lakedays3708 It has everything to do with salvation. God loves humility. Isaiah 59:1-2 Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: 2But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. The solution: 2 Chronicles 7:14 IF my people which are called by my name shall HUMBLE themselves and PRAY AND SEEK MY FACE AND TURN FROM (Repent) THEIR WICKED WAYS THEN I WILL HEAR FROM HEAVEN AND FORGIVE THEIR SINS and heal their land. Jesus wants you to humble yourself, acknowledge you're a sinner in need of a Savior and change your mind (Repent) and turn away from your sinfulled life. Luke 5:32 I did not come to call the [self-proclaimed] righteous [who see no need to repent], but sinners to repentance [to change their old way of thinking, to turn from sin and to seek God and His righteousness].” Jesus's first command when He started His earthly ministry was Repent. Mark 1:15 and saying, “The [appointed period of] time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent [change your inner self--your old way of thinking, regret past sins, live your life in a way that proves repentance; seek God’s purpose for your life] and believe [with a deep, abiding trust] in the good news [regarding salvation].” Jesus never once said Believe in Me for the forgiveness of sins. Without repentance you can't receive the gift of the Holy Spirit and sins are not forgiven. Do you believe that Jesus is the Son of God died on the cross was buried and rose again for our sins? (Acts 2:31-32). Acts1:1-8 Says this teaching is for all,you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth. Luke 24:45-47 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, And REPENTANCE FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS will be preached in His name to ALL NATIONS Starting in Jerusalem. Jesus said: Matthew 16:18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. Jesus again reaffirms Peter to start the church in John 21:17 The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things: you know that I love you."Feed my sheep" Acts 2 is the day of pentecost which is the start of the church. This was the first time in church where some asked how to be saved. 37When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles,(Including John)“Brothers, what shall we do? 38Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off. (meaning gentiles) for all whom the Lord our God will call.” 40With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” 41Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. Acts 3:19 Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord. Note Peter said the same thing as Jesus, repent of sin for the forgiveness of sins for salvation. Peter again includes Gentiles. Acts 11:18 When they heard this, they had no further objections and praised God, saying, So then,even to Gentiles, God has granted REPENTANCE THAT LEADS TO LIFE". Acts 17:30 In the past God overlooked such ignorance but now COMMANDETH ALL PEOPLE EVERY WHERE TO REPENT. [Including Gentiles] Acts 20:21 I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they MUST TURN TO GOD IN REPENTANCE AND HAVE FAITH in our Lord Jesus. Acts 22:16 And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized (to complete repentance) and wash your sins away, calling on the name of the Lord. Paul recounts his encounter with Jesus. Acts 26:18-20 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, SO THAT THEY MAY RECEIVE FORGIVENESS OF SINS and a place among those who are SANCTIFIED BY FAITH IN ME.’ 19“So then, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the vision from heaven.20First to those in Damascus, then to those in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and then to the Gentiles, I preached that they should REPENT AND TURN TO GOD (believe) and demonstrate their repentance by their deeds/works/lifestyle. Again Paul reaffirms repentance leads to salvation: 2 Corinthians 7:9-10 Yet now I am happy, not because you were made sorry, but because YOUR SORROW LED YOU TO REPENTANCE. For YOU BECAME SORROWFUL as God intended and so were not harmed in any way by us. 10GODLY SORROW BRINGS REPENTANCE THAT LEADS TO SALVATION and leaves no regret, but worldly SORROW BRINGS DEATH. We must repent of sin and believe. Anyone who dies without repentance will be cast into the lake of fire.

This man is wrong. He is saying that someone who "believes" as he does could be witnessing his gospel in between two bars on a Saturday night. As Joe Blow exits one bar on his way to the next bar he encounters this person preaching. He says "do you believe Jesus died to give you eternal life? All you have to do is believe he gave you life because he died for you." The guy who is on his way to the next bar says "sure, I'll take that. You mean no repenting or change is necessary?" The preacher says "nope, just believe he gave it to you." The guy accepts and heads to the next bar and continues doing that for the rest of his life. And you mean to tell me that guy is saved? No way. John 3:16 is not where Jesus stopped talking. he went on to say those who come to the light do so because their deeds are wrought in God. They are wrought in God because in coming to the light his wicked deeds were forsaken and made light by the light. The guy who does not come to the light does not do so because he wants to keep his wicked deeds. if you are saying you can have conversion without repentance and forsaking sin as the "other side of the same coin" that comes to Christ then you are not preaching the Gospel and no "born again" has happened. The story of Martha believing He was the Christ, the Son of God, that should come into the world, in John 11, can't be understood outside the context provided in 1 John 3:8 where John says the Son of God was manifested to destroy the works of the devil. Faith and repentance can only be understood as one thing. It is "christian philosophy" making them two different things. And once you understand this, by accepting the real Gospel, you can begin to understand, by the Holy Spirit, the independent identity of faith and repentance (while always knowing they are linked as one).

You are positing the impossible . John 3:19-21 comes After John 3:1-18 . Nicodemus has been told 2 things about 2 completely different categories : (1.) Everlasting Life as entirely contingent upon one's faith (persuasion) that He guarantees simply by belief in Him for it . (2.) Walking in the light as a Disciple (learner/following in a process of sanctification) . Neither in any Greek Lexicon nor in any Exegetical reading of any conceivable Evangelistic/Everlasting Life/Justification before God passage in Scripture does the following passage occur : 1. "Whosoever repents (turns from an unknowable level (%) of sins till death) and mostly?...totally??...walks in good enough behavioral performance (works) , will gain/be rewarded with entrance into His Kingdom ". Nor : 2. "Whosoever does not repent (turns from an unknowable level (%) of sins till death goes to the endless lake of fire ". You've collapsed a process (Discipleship sanctification) into a once in a moment with forever consequence event (born again with the gift of irrevocable Everlasting Life /Justification before God) . That's as confusing as it is incoherent .

Looks like you think your behavioral performance (works) will "deserve " entrance into His Kingdom . However , the insurmountable barrier to that notion is undeniably affirmed repeatedly : Ephesians 2:8-9 ; Romans 3:20-5:11,11:6,29 ; Titus 3:5 ; Phillipians 3:9 ; book of Galatians . The reception of the free Gift of irreversible Everlasting Life is only contingent upon one's belief in Him FOR that free Gift in every Evangelistic/Everlasting Life/Justification before God passage in Scripture . Without exception . So , your "two sides of the same coin" concept is neither possible , nor Biblically evident . It's tantamount to belief in 4 sided Triangles , Square Circles , Married Bachelors , and One Ended Sticks . No such "animal" . Your Object of saving faith appears to be your perseverance in performance (works) . Yet , all of the above-mentioned passages exclude that in the clearest of all terms available . Only childlike faith (persuasion) in Him FOR His doubtless Promise secures the forever Gift .

Well said....I'm not sure I like your "two men walk into a bar" scenario....LOL....but yes, this idea of trying to "filet" the Gospel so that faith is a mere mental assent uncoupled from the entire "animal" of being born again, having Christ formed in us, no longer being slaves to unrighteousness but rather righteousness...this is not even really something that exists in the Bible or that the Bible is trying to posit. You have expressed this well, have identified the weird hair splitting that is going on here, and have correctly called it "Christian philosophy."

Romans 3:8 And not rather, (as we be slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,) Let us do evil, that good may come? *whose damnation is just.* 9 What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin; We are all under sin. Some may live above reproach, but no one is without sin. We are no better, we are just better off because we are saved, washed, justified, sanctified in the name of the Lord Jesus. 10 As it is written, *There is none righteous, no, not one:* 11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. 12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. 13 Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: 14 Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: 15 Their feet are swift to shed blood: 16 Destruction and misery are in their ways: 17 And the way of peace have they not known: 18 There is no fear of God before their eyes. 19 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. 20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. The law was never meant as a way for someone to earn eternal life, it was so every mouth would be stopped and the whole world would become guilty before God. It's to show our sinfulness and need for a Saviour. The law is still accomplishing today what it did 4000 years ago. It is sending people to the cross of Jesus Christ to throw themselves on his loving forgiveness. When we believe on Christ who paid for our sins, we are eternally saved, and no longer under a schoolmaster. 21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; 22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: 23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; 26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, *and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.* You need His righteousness. The righteousness of God by faith in Christ Jesus to all and upon all that believe for their is no difference. acts 13:38-39 “Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: And by him all that believe *are justified from all things,* from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.” You don't receive Christ as a license to sin, you receive him because you go to hell if you don't receive him.
