More like an old elevator that still works but every time it goes either up or down it shakes a lot while doing so and at times it completely stops in it's place. All the engineers can do is try to temporarily fix it but they're also extremely lazy about it.

I don’t know, I’m not opposed to starting over. It depends on how they do it. As an example I’m hoping what ever GTA 6 Online is, it’s something new. Maybe you can bring your character from GTA 5 but not there stuff. There’s a lot of new stuff, and the same can be said for Sea of Thieves 2. There will be new stuff! Do we really need the old stuff too??

I like the idea of SoT Classic servers. They can keep this option running for those on old hardware, or people who don't like change. Then they can update the game based on current gen or even next gen standards. I think expanding would be better than making a sequel. Even if they still don't want to go too big, just rotate available zones like devils roar and ice lands on a seasonal schedule. Then just cover blocked zones in fog/red seas.

I don't think we'll see "classic". At least not like world of warcraft did where its a different experience. They might call it classic but at the end of the day it will be for the old xbox, I don't see them splitting the playerbase and having some people playing a classic version of the game and some people playing the modern version. Its much more likely they'll make something and send off the old xbox players rather than a real "classic" experience that runs alongside the main game.

Ultimate next gen pitch with a Sea of thieves 2: 132+ players on a server of sea of thieves, destructible environment, real pve (cities with NPCs that go around that can be invaded / stolen;; servers start blank but players change the state of the world), epic chaotic naval battles (BIG faction wars), listed servers (people could choose who to join / have private hosted servers)... this game has alot of potential, but I'll keep dreaming.

It’s basically what happened with GTA online when the next Gen systems came out. They stopped adding new content for the 360 and PS3 editions but kept severs online. I think that’d be great for Sea of Thieves. Just as long as I get to keep all my current cosmetics. I worked way too long and hard for a lot of those.

I don't think there's a big technical difference in adding new stuff in places like underwater or new islands vs literally making the map bigger. In fact adding new stuff further away on the physical map could even be better as it allows for culling of far away objects vs adding new stuff in a smaller area which would mean more stuff loaded into memory. Instead I think there's a server limit of the amount of players they can support without things breaking, which then dictates the size of the map as making the map bigger would simply make it feel more empty. If you want a physically bigger open world map, they would need to support higher crew-counts first. Adding content in other instances helps with this, when a players goes into an instance a slot opens up in the open world and the map doesn't feel more empty. If this content was on the open world map in a new zone, players would spread more and more thin. An engine upgrade doesn't really increase the memory cap as far as I'm aware but someone could school me on this. Instead look at it like this. The lowest hardware dictates the limitations. Lets say the Xbox has a certain amount of memory. Now with the current limitations there's like what, 10 players (idk but as an example) per server. Each player can have boots, a hat, a pet, a jacket etc etc. When all players stand in the same place all wearing different items, each client would need to load all these things into memory (meshes, textures). You could view that as a 'max base memory load' for players. This is why they can keep adding cosmetics; it increases the size of the game on disk, but not the amount of memory required. This changes however when you increase playercounts or add new things onto the map in close proximity to what is already there. More stuff needs to be held in-memory at the same time. An engine upgrade doesn't impact this a whole lot, as far as I know. Maybe there's some compression magic going on or UE5 can juggle things in and out of memory more effectively. I'd also caution against hyping UE5 too much. It offers great features but many studios using it already had to rip out big chunks of it in order to make it work for their games, CD Project as a recent example. It offers cool high end features but you can ask yourself if that makes a lot of sense for a game like SoT. I'm sure there's some features they could really benefit from, it's a balancing act for sure. If they went with a SoT2 on a never version of the engine kind of approach and ditch the lower end systems that could work. It's just that the engine itself doesn't increase the memory cap - the ditching of the lower end systems increases the memory cap. I'm just an environment artist my technical knowledge doesn't go too deep but I do work in Unreal a lot so feel free to correct me or point out mistakes I made.

I had a PS5 player join my guild for like 3 weeks then quit because of hourglass. They were frustrated at silent boarding (which was fixed afaik) and the hit reg issues. It sucks so much seeing and hearing your hit register and the game says otherwise. Unreal 5 COULD fix these issues, but porting from one engine to the other is not a 1:1 thing and would cause more issues than it would fix for months, so if Rare did this, they would want to do it right.

People say that the old hardware ain't holding back Sea of Thieves at all because the servers are designed to do a lof the heavy lifting. But I can't help but imagine that those recourse being used to help the xbox one from 2013 run Sea of Thieves on public servers could've been used for something more worthwhile, like finally fixing hitreg or the general lag in the game.

Flameheart gets what he was looking for. Away to reshape the SoT to his Will. He burns the whole SoT and the Pirate Lord and the Ancients team up and use a lost/forgotten teaching found in the sea of the damned, that warps the whole SoT, "Fixing what FlameHeart had done" Thus more of the Shroud moves and the lands rise/fall...

What i liked about Sea of Thieves is that less was more. We'd get little hints about lore in world which would then lead up to missions we could play to advance the story and game. But nows its just getting stagnant. The only outpost change wad golden sands the only new region is devils roar we just got some new weapons after 8 years. They need an update desperately

I’ve been saying it for years, it needs to happen. I know it sucks for people but it needs to. And man I fucking cannot wait. So glad falcore is shedding light on this as it’ll improve the game so much and give people an incentive to go next gen. I have to disagree about keeping it secret. Most games announce their engine upgrade far in advance and make sure to point out that they are dropping support but then they promise to give you the upgrade for free if you switch to the newer generation of consoles. Plus, not many people are actually playing on the Xbox One anymore. Stealth dropping that update is a TERRIBLE idea because people would be able to access it one day but not the next with no warning.

The logo... as far as I know, the symbol for Series consoles is X/S. Logo for Xbox One is the Xbox logo you see on the far left. Most Series games only have the X/S logo on them and not XBOX.

Based off the comments i see im seeing here, I think the player base at large or at least a solid number of players want a general enhancement of graphics and gameplay, such as more ships, activities and graphical improvements. The inherent flaw of the game, which is stated in this video, is that the games compression of content into one video game sandwich is already causing the servers to basically implode. If the maximum amount of ships is increased, especially if into the double digits, it's gonna result in the servers becoming effectively unplayable for old generation consoles, which is, of course a notable portion of the player base. We are stuck sort of in this semi state of the game being like a canvas that has been completely painted, and the developers are continually trying to place more art onto an already cluttered canvas. Noobface definitely has a great point in that of releasing a second Sea of Thieves, which would be a better optimized and enhanced Sea of Thieves and keep a classic version on older consoles.

I'm casual at the game. And i slept on a game for long time as 1st immersion of reviews indicated it being baren game. I was fool to listen to youtube reviewers. Hope game will get new gen update and im will be able not to miss out on day one experience of this game

With the Playstation only just getting the game this year, I seriously doubt we’ll be seeing a sequel, an Overwatch-style rehaul, or any sweeping next-gen upgrades anytime soon. It wouldn’t make any sense from a sales / marketing perspective

If they did do a sequel using the current unreal engine I hope they allow players to transfer their account to the sequel along with their pirate and stuff so they don’t have to start over.

We better be able to keep our cosmetics! But hopefully the add some RPG elements to it. I am torn about the size of the world. On one hand it would be more realistic if the ocean was bigger and sailing between islands took longer. BUT that would get boring real fast unless there were more things to do in between. Would love to see more uncharted hidden islands. Would love it if the map on the map table were a Fog of War Map, meaning until you go there, you don't get to know what is there. More ship types!

FYI for players who are encountering a lot of lag, maybe I'm a bit late to know this but I recently found that DirectX 12 is very bad with my current PC (RTX3070 with 5800X3D CPU). I switched back to DirectX 11 and it's way better now.

They need to let people carry over progress, and then scrap this entire game and make Sea of Thieves 2 ENTIRELY functional ON LAUNCH.

I can confirm that it won't be coming to UE5. The Rare Engine has become too customized to transition to a new version of Unreal Engine. However, next year, known as the "Year of the Ancients," will bring a slowdown in story and gameplay. While there will be some high points throughout the year, overall it will be a slower period. This slowdown provides an opportunity to optimize the game, fix bugs and performance issues, and add new content without overwhelming the team. @captnbroly1561 Hard to say really but the overall cost to go from UE4-X to UE5 will be about £2-3million, maybe, in the future it might be considered but as it stands, there is no plans especially to say a new SDK for performance and such was added less than 12 months ago. The real issue is the servers, plus the issue with FPS at Port Merick, where on XBONE, it drops to 45FPS but that's an easy fix by detecting the console and only using low poly models for that zone. We will see, though I know for sure next year is going to be very slow between seasons, but when content does come, it will be good as S14 features will be used for the tales and events (sneaking, hiding and stealing). I'll stop here though before I end up saying something I'll regret later.
