There's a reason why cruise ships get scrapped after 20-30 years. Maintaining them gets uneconomical. The same thing would happen to seasteads sadly.
@jovanleon73 ай бұрын
What makes you think sea steading properties would be made with the same materials as cruise ships?
@Libertaro-i2u3 ай бұрын
Actually the main reason cruise ships are trashed every few decades is because selling the same experiences to the same passengers becomes not profitable after a while. Besides, there are some floating structures that have been around since at least World War Two, and many of them are still technically usable.

The seastead in Panama grows coralcrete, the same material which seashells are made of. It should allow the seastead to last a century. The seastead in Indonesia is made of marine grade aluminum. See my presentation: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i2O8n3WoiKmgpac

The most viable format for seasteads would be the basic form that oil platforms or sea forts take. This way, the superstructure would be stable and the main habitation areas would be high enough for the worst waves to not utterly flood it.

All boat builders in Phuket are still experiencing the measures that were taken by the government after the building of the Seasted in Thailand. Not saying you were wrong but the government was of that opinion. As a result, all the yards in Phuket underwent a strict scrutiny to ensure no boat builder would ever build such a unit again in Thailand. So please wnsure the government is ok with ot first.

My two cents on the matter: the City of Rapture in Bioshock makes a lot more sense than these. Undersea habitation has a long list of successful attempts. It speaks more about how out of touch these so-called libertarians arewhen a fictional Libertarian has a better idea as to build their utopia...
@Libertaro-i2u3 ай бұрын
Though all the areas of the sea floor that can be built on without the pressure being too much are located in nation-states territorial waters. If you want to experiment with new governance systems and models, distant international waters is the place to go. For undersea habitats in international waters, the most viable option would be to have the settlement be neutrally buoyant so the pressure wouldn't be too high.

I believe this proposal presents a promising solution for marine conservation. By strategically deploying these structures, we can create artificial reefs that not only enhance biodiversity but also provide safe havens for marine species. Coral seeding initiatives beneath these structures could further bolster ecosystem health, fostering the growth of essential coral reefs. Over time, these efforts could significantly mitigate the impacts of overfishing and contribute to the repopulation of depleted marine wildlife. Ultimately, this approach offers a potential pathway towards the rewilding of underwater environments. By creating thriving marine ecosystems, we can not only protect biodiversity but also support sustainable fisheries and improve the overall health of our oceans.
