Is Set 12 worth playing? First Impressions of Magic n' Mayhem

Goodbye Inkborn Fables, it is time for a set full of Magic n' Mayhem! Set 12 is finally here and today I will show you what it has to offer! From tons of new augments to the new Set Mechanic called Charms, there is quite a lot! Charms are powerful upgrades to your board that you can purchase for gold directly from your shop. Some of them are not as powerful as the others, but they surely can help. Free reforger and remover anyone? But what about the aesthetics? In my honest opinion this set looks absolutely amazing. Even the battlepass board is stunning and I for sure will add that to my collection. But enough talking, let's find out more about Set 12!

I'm very concerned about charms, honestly. They sound like they will be most likely fun to play. That much is fine, but I am worried about how fun they will be to play against. If they can create such extreme swings like "prismatic for a round" semi regularly, they will be a HUGE source of frustration for players since there is basically no counterplay or warning about that, it will just feel like "Ups, you lose because your opponent got lucky on charms this round". Most other effects in TFT are symmetrical and largely feel symmetrical too, even if artifact and support item anvils sometimes make strain that idea, Charms might push that over the edge to where they don't feel symmetrical just due to the sheer variety of charms that are available.

I am as well played today was top 2 and got the remain alive charm at 9hp. Lost the round and won the game the next and honestly it just felt like a scummy win and my opponent prob rolled a useless one that refreshed his shop w 3 costs or somethjng

Its not that serious. The game breaking charms are 1 expenaive and 2 dont reallly come till stage 4-5. Yes you will losr a fight off of a charm thats just TFT. Ppl complain about every mechanic like this game isnt 50% RNG.

i think i like what their doing with both set mechanic and other parts, all thats left is how units link up through traits, also who was that big blue guy next to morg also augment space definitely needed some new things so glad, will probably need a bit to balance tho i do wish hero augments could do more interesting things outside just tank = big guy who also carries shen was a good example but still is a tank maybe fufill some peoples support fantasys or something

Ye I don't really understand why Riot dislikes Support units so much, so having a Support-Hero Augment sounds like a great idea!

Looks amazing, just absolutely LOVE high fantasy themes, they are so much better than all the rest have been. No hate to set 10, what they accomplished using that theme was increadible, but gameplay wise it was far from my favorite set. This is so much better to me.

Charms sound like they could be pretty awful if they only last one round and not the entire stage. You could RNG into fighting a person using their charm back to back to back.

I really like the charms mechanic. It really does feel like casting a spell each round, and it should be fun. The traits and the new augments all seem fresh too. Really looking forward to this set

Charms are such a big change, I am really curious what their impact will be. For huge rolldown turns where you buy one and go in they won‘t do a ton, but for slowrolling or just naturalling it will be very noticeable - 10% fewer units seen. Might be enough to change how reroll (especially 3 cost) is played where rolling to 50 each turn isn‘t good unless you have a lot of potential smaller upgrades to hit right now and instead you want to go well above 50 gold and have one bigger rolldown? I know bagpipes are changed as well, maybe that counteracts it a bit? I haven’t looked at the math behind them yet.

One of the worst looking sets to-date. Feels lazy and bland. 0 exciting moments. They saw how much people hate the random win lotteries of encounters and went 500% more with freaking charms. Didn't think they could get much worse than last set, yet here we are.

I took that gold augment with a 2star 5 cost if you reach 162 gold..but was my second augment after i took first "at what cost augment" so i have so much tempo to get 162 gold and also i had luck ti receive diana as the prize of augment

I'm not entirely sold on the set mechanic yet, but we'll see how it feels when it hits live servers. Feels like it might be hard to balance for the first half of the set. Other than that, I love the thematic, sure hope it won't cause too much screen cluttering tho, since I can't tell wtf is going on in these clips.

Sugarcraft can be considered an econ trait, just no gimmicky lose streak into cashout based trait unfortunately...which is a shame because I loved heartsteel and fortune sm but i understand since we already got those types of traits two sets in a row they probably wanted to switch it up.

Fortune felt less like Fortune 2 and more like Nerfed Heartsteel, just really clunky and hard to use because if it was any better, it would be the single best thing to play. Sugar being more like 8bit is something I approve of, and I'm looking forward to playing a lot of them this set.

And here I thought that Sugarcraft would be a better Lagoon. Since you said that they are not adding another gacha trait to this set, I'm expecting Sugarcraft's loot table to be just components, gold, units and sometimes a random FoN, y'know? the boring stuff. Nothing interesting that would be worth the expectation if that's the case. ... unless of course there is gonna be some easter egg once you've reached a certain amount of stack. But we'll just have to wait and see.

Actually Sugarcraft is quite similar to Lagoon and the late late game rewards are quite powerful. I haven't seen all of them yet, but it starts simple with a Golden Remover and item components and later on you can receive stuff like 6 Emblems and special Unit spawns.

I wouldn't read too much into the title, it's just the format. Though if someone is not vibing with theme/mechanic, they can return at the halfway point with the Set 5.5 revival.

So the way it works in Set 12 is this. There are 4 different "Gaccha" Augments. One of them straight up works like Fortune, while the other 3 require a condition (Traits, Gold, 3 Stars) to be fulfilled to receive a large reward. Additionaly once you reach 7 Stacks with Sugarcraft, the trait works very similar to Lagoon from Set 7 and starts giving out rewards for reaching higher tresholds.

@@leduck im going to play the set, just not as much. i dont believe there is anything epic to "chase" here. the last 2 sets have had something incredible you can hope for (250 cashout fortune and 2000 cashout heartsteel). The gacha augments simply dont have anything close to this

Listen while I understand your desire to show off, I hate the fact that you showed a 3* 5-cost with very little warning. They are one of the few things designed to be "Surprises" and I'd much prefer to keep them that way, so this will be a dislike from me (not that it does much).
