Shockwave totems pretty much require the unique ring to feel good. Until then, you can league start as freezing pulse/ice spear totems, it has similar tree that you can easily change and it gets online much faster for leaguestart This is the build that i played in sanctum league to speedrun sanctums, it was s tier sanctum clearer build. With quite low investment, the totems could 1shot everything (more than 1m dmg per pulse) with no heatshiver or curse, but also 0 investment in defenses

it feels very awkward without the unique ring in my opinion but the moment you have it, it becomes a smooth walk against pretty much anything. If you scale AOE enough, they can snipe things out of your screen which makes them super safe. Hrimsorrow gives easy Cold Conversion and the damage is pretty good

Hrimsorrow gloves are quite affordable on league start, chill&freeze are a really good layer of defense people tend to forget. If you get Temporal Chains or Enfeeble on a corrupt pair of gloves it is even better. The scaling from Hatred without any shenanigans is already way better than any other aura. Heatshiver and Astral Projector are in the realm of the 50 to 100c range on league start though. Obtaining one of them on day one might not be such a stretch. Personally I'd prioritize Astral Projector for quality of life and comfort. From what I remember, cast speed is way better than increased damage, these totems are pretty slow by default so it's the same consideration as Astral Projector and the cold conversion for the chill&freeze. I'd prioritize Shockwave Totem lv21 over Heatshiver too.

You can just pick up a pair of Hrimsorrow gloves for like 2 alchs. They are that cheap even in first couple of hours on league start. This get you the full 100% conversion to cold. You can replace them way later with alt qual gem + mastery + gloves.

Lot better than shockwave, shockwave as a starter is just to hard to get really good damage/defences, on Ice Spear im dying to harbis and only them (so no harbie)

@@Spatzels49 CF (Corrupting Fever) is a buff and it applies to you (the player). You are totems, but totems are not you so they don't inherit the buff.

With the unique jewel from Sanctum coming back it will definitely feel great again. I played it this league and honestly it felt horrible early on. I couldnt even kill harbingers with decent gear. Back in Sanctum I felt like a god even with a lower budget, 70% phys added as extra elemental damage was massive and changed the game. If you plan to focus on Sanctum like me though, definitely S-Tier since it freezes enemies so efficiently and Astral Projector gives it a very large targeting radius.

If the new support gem for totems that makes then shoot "mortar" like projectiles has mechanics that you can build around, I think shockwave totem is high tier for it. Conversion is tricky now, and might not be plausible but if you can scale the support gems damage well, I think chieftain with arohongui and an empires grasp reversing knock back could create an interesting situation where the totems taunt and the knock back is sucking them toward the totem and allowing the mobs to keep attacking the totems and the "mortar" to keep attacking them lol. Sadly, no clue how the mechanics of that support are so this could be dead before it starts

Multiple totem support on a 4-link is a massive DPS nerf vs a litany of alternative supports. Hiero has the placement speed to make the double totem cast irrelevant, so a 20% less multiplier with an additional totem does not beat a 20-40% more multiplier. This only gets more true as you add additional totems from a shaper shield.

Frost conversion (hrimsorrow for the early days+ heatshiver) adds a huge defensive component with chill and freeze. With the ring, one of the best allrounder IMO. Also very good for sanctum!

With sanctum returning will you revisit your hexblast mines build this league? I've been labbing and practicing an Occultist variant that I'm feeling pretty damn good about. It's not crit reliant so the sandstorm visage isn't necessary to get it rolling. I downed Eater in 15 hours play time in a fresh ssf league start test which is actually insanely fast for me. The tradeoff vs trickster is that you have a lot more damage off of your ascendancy but you lose some speed. As a league starter I valued that additional dps since it let me hit my viable damage numbers for each boss on considerably less gear. Since I'm not speccing crit I was able to devote more points to Spell suppression which allowed me to effectively spell suppress cap (using lucky so not really) just off of the tree. I don't think occultist is better overall. There are clear upsides to trickster. I'm just looking at the numbers with zero gear and thinking that occultist feels more well rounded as a league starter

Maybe I'll play this as second build but it feels pretty bad without the ring. For me the ring is like half of the build, it's such a huge QOL and the ring since sanctum is back would be expensive this league.

can comfortably do white yellows without the ring but it does completely change it and everything becomes meme easy afterwards when you get it. Followed Mathils version in Sanctum league and crushed everything except Ubers, first time killing the Maven with it :)

1. dont make the swap earlier than act 5, because you will be lacking dmg. 2. use the life recovery fire mastery to run RF for more dmg multi. (Also, early game i dont go ancestral bond and instead just have 4 totems plus my own damage.) 3. i spent time studying Mathil's shockwave totem and imo he gets to 20M dps without focus and at the cost of defenses. so imo not great. Finally: Im trying to figure out going shockwave totem WITH self cast (i.e. no ancestral bond), but no good ideas yet.

I am actually planning on league starting with - Divine Ire totems. The plan is to ultimately transition to ice spear totems and maybe eventually turn the character into a spark inquisitor, but divine ire honestly felt the best when first getting to maps, even better than shockwave. I typically am not much a totem player myself either, but this build has felt great in all of my testing right now Some of the nonsense I did was level 69 Uber lab and level 70 T16 map clear. Totems are REALLY STRONG for league start right now.
