As an old reader (early 2000s) who recently came back to reading manga, Undead + Unluck is the hidden gem of recent ongoing series in Jump that makes me feel there's still hope in Shonen Jump future.

it reminds me of a better written (in most cases), family friendly version of gantz which is one of my favourites

I think more people need to know about the other manga companies out there - if they are looking for something new to read. Companies like Saturday AM. They have a collection of good series that look and feel like classic shonen jump titles
@BytheVolume2 ай бұрын
@@Jackie_Staar that’s true! There’s a wide variety of other manga series from other publishers both big and small. Now finding time to read them all is a different story.

I feel like with the wave that chainsaw man has brought we have an entire new wave of shonen manga even better than before. This isn't something you can really categorize or break down in a simple video but id say its really good now.

That’s the interesting part right? Once series like One Piece and JJK eventually end, Shonen Jump can still fall back on Chainsaw Man, Spy x Family, Dan Da Dan even if those series aren’t part of the main weekly magazine in Japan. Heck, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure is not a weekly series anymore and is still going strong.

Sakamoto Days, Undead Unluck, and Kagurabachi are among the primary candidates to become the next generation big 3 of Shonen Jump.

Kagurabachi for the win! The manga version John wick mixed with yakuza! It’s more than a meme!

John Wick you say? I’ll try it out!

Maybe its me, but Im happy WSJ is struggling a bit. I'm a bit older, so series like Dragon Ball, Fist Of The North Star, Samurai X , Slam Dunk and Rokudenashi Blues were peak WSJ. Mainly cause each series has their own flavors. I did drop off from WSJ around the late 2000s to early 2010s, mainly cause I noticed the same themes: Huge Cast of characters, going to a school, and each characters has a dream. Sounds like a, "THAT IS Shonen" answer , but the series I listed dont follow those rules. I think what broke me away from WSJ was...MHA, which (PERSONALLY, my 2 cents) follow the: Huge Cast of characters, going to a school, and each characters has a dream RULES. (Being Safe) I feel like CHAINSAW MAN finally shuck up the rules, and gave WSJ a chance to try out different themes. I dont see Spy X Family or Sakamoto Days in early 2010s, since WSJ was number 1 the whole time by following the safe rules. So, just hearing WSJ is NOW struggling just a bit, just a little, just means they might try out different themes. Yeah, they can go back to HUGE CAST/SCHOOL/"MY DREAMS" Rules and play it safe, but the fact Spy X Family/CHAINSAW MAN/ Sakamoto Days are a massive hit, and all dont follow the safe rules, means WSJ might take another chance on something new.

Hey you’re not wrong. Series with a smaller cast will have time to properly develop those characters and make the readers feel invested in them. In regards to series doing things outside the box, I personally am enjoying Akane Banashi. It’s not your run of the mill action Shonen, and seeing its success proves WSJ should at least be more open to trying different.
