A big tournament in Mexico occurred last weekend called Best of the West II: Misfire. I specifically wanted to react and talk about Skyjay's insane run with Incineroar/Cheeto Fingers, and his close sets against Spargo! Skyjay may have been a part of team villain at Collision, but after these games, he might be the hero we need for the future of Ultimate...

Weirdly enough, although skillwise skyjay is incredible and pushing the character I think his mindset is what makes him able to compete with incineroar. Win or lose bro always has the biggest smile on his face. You can tell he genuinely loves smash and honestly I root for him instead of all my favs because with how fast top play is there’s no way tht character beat spargo multiple times

Yeah and you see him doing things you never see other pros do, like trying to force that Revenge and just sitting right in your face. He’s a wildcard, and I love it.

its kinda subtle but skyjay dashing then stopping then dashing again everywhere rather than just running really shows how much effort and time he puts into this character

It’s the known tech amongst Incineroar mains to move faster. It’s just that people who main other characters don’t know it

@@kigeryt smash math😂there’s been more jokers recently, but for years Leo was the only joker even close to ranked and everyone knows Joker is at least top 15. People have the mindset that “Oh this character is uncommon at top play so he’s not that good” but it doesn’t make sense. 90% of smash players don’t pick their mains based on viability, but simply because they like the character or how they feel in game. (This is by no means disrespect to spargo he’s the best player in the world, he’s just simply not “carrying” his character like Skyjay)

As a bad Incineroar main, its interesting to watch how Skyjay competes and some of the practices he employs. It is interesting to learn from. I'd be curious if anyone has recommendations for videos showing how to get better with Incineroar (and how to avoid bad habits).

honestly maybe a hot take but all mid tiers are boring to watch since 99% of the time they HAVE to play campy at top lvl incin is a great example of hes basically just standing around till cloud gets just a lil over aggressive. dead ass feels like watching steve mine for 6 minutes

Seeing folks play low tier characters like incineroar this well makes me wish they picked up a good character. It’s a bit of a waste of talent to be using a character that gets edge guarded so easily given the talent of the player.

Consider: This is probably the character he does best with and has the most fun with. If he played a different character I doubt he'd be able to push them like he does Incineroar, and I doubt he would enjoy the game like he does. Just like with every other low tier main. Not to mention, if people played the game like you want them to, everyone would just play characters like Steve or Sonic and we'd have a *very* boring meta.
