A clarification of one point in the video regarding indexing. You can micro index the derailleur in 0.25mm increments. It does not index each gear separately. If you micro adjust one gear it affects the other gears as well. Much like a typical cable actuated derailleur. Something to consider if you are shopping for AXS.

I use a Deore derailleur and shifter and a sram nx 12 speed cogs and yes the shifting is smooth and light. I've been using this hybrid for more tham 2 years now

Great info my new bikes all XT,with hyperglide chain so i have been wondering about this?! Its like a no go subject online mix n match but I couldn't care less lol, but now do i go with di2 or the EDR Chinese one that is flawless and works with both. I was asking.. so thanks for answering. I just bought a bike that is kitted out with Shimano, but I love my AXS on my other bike. Planning to make this same adjustment. Since my new bike is an actual XC bike, I'm dealing with way too much in the way of cable mgmt, so both the dropper and shifting are going wireless.. just can't stand this messy cockpit!

Glad you found the video helpful. 🙂 XC bikes can get pretty cluttered once you add lockout lever and dropper. I'm thinking of moving my AXS to the XC bike as well. I think it's the best bike to use AXS.

On one of my bikes I'm running an SLX derailleur and shifter with a SRAM chain and a Microshift Cassette. It runs just as well as my all SLX bike. It is interesting to see what does and doesn't work though.

Got mine in the post today. The GX upgrade set is going at a good price right now. It came with a 2-button shifter instead of the paddle, but I like that! Now, it's time to figure out how to install it on my 12s XT Cube Action Team full sus! Everything is brand new. The bike has been used only three times. I can't get the hang of what's up and down with that rapid-fire XT shifter! It just feels like a rough clunk click every trip, haha! I'm just going to strip the factory grease off the chain and get some squirt wax on first, as I have a few days out this fortnight! I'm more curious about the chain length. Would the new Shimano chain just go back on as is, or will it need links removed? I can't add them, obviously, as there are no spare links to do so. Any help here would be great

A derailleur is just a swinging parallellogram. It does not have indexing built into it for predetermined shifting or spacing. The compatitbility lies with the shifters which do and the cassettes which do as well. If you have the same shifter/casette combo, the derailleur doesn't matter. This is why you can buy the few other derailleurs which are offerd as aftermarket. Note: some more recent derailleurs (higher end) will have a different path of motion and might cause a noticeable alignment problem with the indexing, but most it will noy matter.

If I understood you correctly, I think you cannot individually index each cog. The adjustment moves the overall indexing altogether. If you shift the indexing on the 12th gear, that shifts your indexing on 11th gear too

You are correct. I wasn't clear on that. You can fine tune it in 0.25mm increments but it does move the indexing across the board. I'll pin a correction in the comments. Appreciate you bringing it to my attention.

I run shimano Cassette 12 speed, gx axs with sram chain. Works the same as shimano chain so ye u right. Hg+ etc. All Marketing.

They both perform very similar and are durable. The difference is that XO1 uses ligher weight materials. If weight isn't a consideration, save some money and go GX

Somehow I can’t make it work. I adjusted b screw and the hanger itself but the chain starts having contact with the higher cogs at the last 5 big cogs. I really don’t know what else I can do. One micro adjust in the direction of the smaller gears, and it won’t change from the smallest… one click into the higher range, and it rubs even more…

What cassette are you running? If it's a 12-speed cassette with the same range, it shouldn't be that far off. Reset all the adjustments. If your hanger is straight. Make sure your high and low limit screws are adjusted properly.

No. You don't need to replace the hanger on any derailleur swap unless it's damaged.

@@AdrenalineIsLife I have problem setting up my asx derailleur. I have 2017 Rocky Mountain Element 970 RSL. My Stock group set are XT cassette 11spd 11-46 T, XTR rear derailleur And race face crank. I upgraded now Sram PG-1230 NX Eagle HG 12spd Cassette 11-50T And Sram ASX XX1 upgrade kit. The problem is I won’t stay at 50T cogs I goes down. I'm thinking the Rear derailleur hanger causing it. I'm using the stock rear derailleur hanger that comes with the Shimano XTR derailleur. Should I buy SRAM hanger? Or any advice? Thank you

@@gerard0818 the Hanger is specific to your bike not the derailleur. If you are struggling to get the chain to the 50t, you may need to adjust the low limit screw. SRAM has a tutorial that is helpful.

@Adrenaline Is Life seeing that some Sram products are on sale, including AXS or entire GX Eagle Groupset, I'm considering this. I'm debating of keeping my SLX cassette with AXS or just getting the GX groupset.

@@DeepDiveExplorer I've had no trouble with the SLX cassette, but with the discounts right now, it's hard to pass up a full groupset. That being said, I have yet to meet anyone with AXS that doesn't love it. It functions flawlessly and battery life is good. My relative indifference puts me in a small minority. For me, its the possibility of forgetting the battery or damaging an expensive derailleur in a crash. I've been crashing on my drive side a lot since I installed it. It's more of luxury than a necessity.

Good enough video production and narration wise. But two glaring errors. 1) one of the dumbest things to do to cheap out on a $30 USD Shimano XT HG+ chain which is what makes HG+ work on Shimano 12sp cassettes. You're riding an ~$8000 USD+ bike ruin this whole conversion for the sake of $30 USD. It would be like buying top of the line Fox suspension and using a floor pump to adjust pressure because you're "too lazy" to buy a shock pump. 2) You also can't index each gear individually. The indexing feature functions exactly like a barrel adjuster.

The drivetrain shifts very smoothly, including under load. The Cassette does much of the heavy lifting on the HG+. My XT chain snapped on a trip, and the SRAM chain was all I could find. Shimano chains were next to impossible to get at the time because of the covid supply chain issues. I wouldn't say there was anything dumb or lazy about the decision. @@AdrenalineIsLife I was actually curious if your bike was originally spec'd with an HG+ chain, and also if that was the original crankset. HG+ chains do not play well with 'normal' narrow/wide 1x chain rings, they're the only 12sp chains with a different internal profile. Wolftooth has a diagram explaining it and a range of rings with a specific cut for HG+, warning that using other chains will have less retention (as the SRAM's and others are slightly larger internally). Generally it seems like a 1x chainring can be cut for HG+, or everything else (including 11sp options), but not both. I have no direct experience with HG+ yet, though. Anyway, I am with you, very common to see SRAM chains on shimano 12sp rear cassettes/etc. but non shimano cranksets for this exact reason.
