We moroccans pay on average 10 dh for a let's say a Latté. 8 or 9 dh for a simple espresso. Now if you go to the touristy cafés then you are paying atleast 50% more. So my advice is just choose places where you see only moroccans. Sometimes the distance between tourist and non tourist cafés/restaurants is just a street or an alley away. Another advice is when you shop for things go first for a random item (which you are not interested in) then later on ask for the price of the item you are interested in. The sellers watch the first item that catches your eye and that's the item they will be less keen to lower the price cause they know it's the one you really want. (That's moroccan bargaining 101).

In fact، the locals ask the seller about the price of one or two items they already know its true prices ! and then they ask the price of anything else that interests them. The goal is to find out if the seller is overstating the price or just say the real price! I hope you understand now the reason behind the trick 😁

14:45 to point out, about the Jellaba.. I'm originally from tangier and I know well those streets, there are Jellabas that can go up to 400€ over there. It's pretty normal for moroccan women to buy jellabas around 80€. I know there are made in Morocco but that, doesn't mean is cheap, it takes a lot of time to do a pice like that, and the good ones are made by hand. I would say the silver chain was a rip off (because silver is very cheap in morocco), but can't say the same about the jellabas.

I was waiting for this episode, so happy that you made it to Tanger! My roots are from Tanger but I was born and I grew up in Germany. I just wanted to drop a comment and let you guys know that the white dress with the green fessi design for 80€ is actually a pretty decent price. Fessi design is usually hand made, and it’s a bridal dress for occasions like henna evenings. It’s true that you always can bargain a little but 40-50€ for kaftans and takshitas is very unrealistic. Tanger is an expensive city in general but the prices regarding kaftans are mostly the same. The tunic for 12€ is just a fabricated dress what explains the price point. You actually pay up to 4000-5000€ for a Designer Kaftan or Takshita and you can buy one or let them being made for 300-800€. Just thought I’ll update you guys about the prices of these traditional Kaftans so you also know what to expect and have an indication! You guys have to go to the playa and to the Ibn Batuta Mall next to it! The area of the kings palace is also one of my favourite to have a nice serene walk at! It seems like tourists still have the old idea that morocco is cheap. It is no more the case, it is not like the world gotten expensive but bypassed morocco. Food has gotten expensive, so expect to have a a decent balanced meal for 2 or 3 euros. If u want to eat cheap you are not going to get a decent meal, you will get a lot of starch

Tangier is Moroccan, and we don't like to be compared to Europe. We're unique, diverse, welcoming, not racist, we like to enjoy life and we have a rich history. Yes we have our problems, but we're warm and hospitable all the time even the poor people are welcoming and always smiling. Europe on the other hand is completely different, people are cold, selfish, not welcoming, not friendly, they only care about themselves, they are lonely and sad. The only way they cope with their miserable lives is alcohol and drugs. They also think humanity has to follow their standars of living and freedom. We welcome everybody to visit our country, the only thing we're asking in return is to respect our coulture, and if you don't like what you see go to another country.

So i want to answere a couple of your questions, about the expo 2012 it didn't went to tangier after all it was held in a city in korea, tangier was just one of the candidates. Secondly the expansive jelaba in the old medina, honestly i'm no expert in artisnal stuff but i was not surprised espacially if it's hand made and made of expansive material, my father sometimes will buy a male jelaba for over 80€. finally about that guy in the hercules cave he was trying to say if you want to take a picture with that traditional millstone that was over there but good for you you dindn't understand him it's not that intersting 😅. Prices of staff can change by where you are located ,I gave an example I bought beer down town Paris, then I went to the other side of Paris and it was like 2 euro different ,it's because location and rent wise.i live in whashington dc I pay for gas $ 4 and if I go cross the bridge to virginia I only pay $2,99.

A caftan is definitely not 200-300 dirhams 😂. At least a minimum 800-900 and can get up to into the thousands of euros. A casual simple caftan to just wear at home or the beach can be 200 dh but definitely not the the caftans you were checking out @ 14:13 😂. It’s a piece of art so definitely comes with a price. About the Architecture, it’s actually more like a mutual exchange started by the Syrian Umayyad in North Africa in 7th century. The Umayyad Governor in North Africa in those day was the famed Musa Ibn Nussayr, ruled from Khairouan, Tunis.

@@chaymae5943 I am actually and architect specializing in classic western and Middle Eastern structure, practicing as builders in Manhattan and North Africa, my second homeland . --- Architecture is a continuum, and never created in a vacuum. The Rashidun and Umayyad architecture were copies of and improvements on Classic Greco-Roman Architecture. North Africa had its own architecture in the 7 and 8th century, but until then it was pure Latin Pagan Roman. Look at Vollubilis in Meknes. That was the “local” (imported) architecture of the overlord (Juba II the Imazeghn King and Cleopatra Selene, for example) until the time the Idrissi came to the land in the 10th century. The Almoravid and Almohad - the Amazighn North African (now part of Morocco and Algeria) deposed the Umayyad in the Iberia Peninsula and control a big swath of region in North African and Andalusia. They built Koutoubia AND La Giralda - it’s sister tower in Seville, as well as TinMel and the Torre del Oro on Guadalquivir (Wadi Al-Kebir). The style was basically Syrian mix with Visigothic (Umayyad Arches) with brick scalloped embellishments. The Almoravid and the Almohad were in power for about 250 years, and their mission was to purify and free Islam from the excess and debauched lifestyle of the Syrian Umayyad. They were very successful in doing so, as even after they were defeated both in their homeland in North Africa and in the Iberian Peninsula, their version of Islam (more puritanical than the Umayyad and the Abbasid) prevailed, as well as their Architecture Contribution. Mudejar Style in Spain - widely popular among the Christian Spanish Kings and Queens - was a continuation of Almohad and Almoravid architecture movement, still in used after the people who made them famous long gone. -- Moroccan Hammam, for example, was introduced to the Almoravid by their Umayyad overlord. The Umayyad - originally Hejazi - learned that concept and perfecting it (replacing the communal pool with the flowing water in the Tepidarium) learned it from the Arab Christian Syrians who have been practicing Greek Culture for several centuries by the time Omar The Caliph and Khalid ibn Al-Waleed (you know who they were, right?) conquered Damascus in the beginning of the 7th century. The Arab Christian in Syria learned about Hammam / Bath from the Roman, who embraced Greek culture since Rome was created. “Hypocaust” or Hypo Caustum ~ Fire underneath (Latin), the heating system that is still used today in the Mouassine Hammam in Marrakech was originally Greco Roman, widely found in Baths in England, France, Rome, Constantinople, Antioch, Damascus and Jerusalem. Firm ditto with the use of Mosaic in all religious buildings, Benita church, mosque or synagogue. It is not a coincidence that the Golden Dome in the Temple Mount in Jerusalem looks like a Baptistery of a Byzantine Church; the architects and artisans were all Christian Byzantines -- This is why if we go to Amman (Jordan), Damascus, Cairo, Tunis, Malta, and Sicily and study the building that were built within the first millennium, they look almost identical; the Greek Christian in Constantinople, the Abassid Muslim in Baghdad, the Alghabid Caliph in Tunis and Malta, and a bit later the Arab-Norman Kingdom in Sicily all refer to the same architecture style; Greco Roman. -- The contribution of the Andalusian architecture in the mix actually came from the Visigoth - the Germanic tribe who used to rule Hispania before the arrival of Tariq Ibn Ziyad and Musa Ibn Nusayyr; The Horse-shoe arch. The Visigoth Horse shoe arch has a round top, the Umayyad horse-shoe arch - like the Moroccan (or Almoravid and Almohad) has a slightly pointy top. The proportion themself are identical, only the Spring-points are shifted in the Umayyad style, however slightly, creating that pointy top. What is original of the Almoravid and Almohad architecture was the use of thin hard-bake bricks on exposed surfaces. That material was indigenous of North African and its used later was widely copied in Andalusia. Prior to the Almoravid period, only the stone part of a structure - mostly at the bottom and around the corner, the “Quoins” - were exposed. The bricks were plastered and the arches were made of stone. The Romans, and hence the Syrian and the Umayyad Hejazi, knew bricks and used them extensively. But they used them in different manner and style. --- There is one material that was originally pure Moroccan invention but also very popular in the Iberian Peninsula; Zellige.

There’s a small Museum and a small Fort on the beach about twenty kilometres north of Tangier “Ksar Sghir”. It’s Tarik Ben Zyad from where he launched his Moorish army around 732 to begin the conquest of Spain, and Portugal. He landed in a Spanish town called “Tarifa”, and from there, he began his conquest all the way to Poitier, France.

I lived in Tangier for 3 months two years ago (I live in Portland, Oregon, USA). I was hoping to see the French cafe with a view of Spain that I went to 3-4 times per week for a delicious breakfast and coffee! LOL I must go back. Hhh No, Tanger is the southern part of the Mediterranean. Mediterranean region=North Africa, Southern Europe(Not "Europe") and the Levant. You will find nothing similar as Tanger in the Northern part of Europe nor that North Africa is "Africa"(as in the stereotypical Africa) And this has always been this way. Hi there, Concernant the djellaba you wanted to buy your mother..800dhs was a reasonable price... The djellabas can go from 150 dhs to 5/6 thousand dhs( depending on the fabric and the way made: hand made or machine made) So, Ask for the difference!!!

My second visit to Morocco was 10 days in Marrakesh but my first visit was to Chefchaouen, Fes and Tangiers. I agree that Tangiers has Spanish and French influences since it is very close to Europe.

Idd Marrakech is very expensive. Tanger on the other hand is cheaper but if you end up in posh places you will pay lots of money aswell. Love Tanger my city ❤️

Bruh Tangier is considered one the most expensive cities to live in in Morocco, I lived in it for like 4 years. you sadly just went to expensive places places in other cities, they do exist in Tangier too I'm sure you'll notice it if when you get out of the Medina, and the cheap places also exist in all other cities too. prices vary a lot from place to place in the same city for the same product. also my sweet summer child, in Morocco Jellabas can go from like 15euros to 1500euros for both men's Jellabas and women's Jellabas

Thank you, it’s interesting to hear. We found Tanger being much cheaper as our apartment, restaurants, coffee etc. was 30-40% cheaper than elsewhere. Like you say, maybe just the choice of places we’ve been making along the way.

@@dacedaine822 Morocco overall is very cheap compared to western Europe, stll Tangier, casablanca, Marakesh these 3 cities in Morocco are all in the top most expensive cities in all of Africa. then again you can find literaly one of the most expensive hotels in the world La Mamounia and 2km later hotel rooms at 5$ in the same city. it's all about where one choses to go, internal tourism is much much bigger than international tourism, and Moroccans are not very rich overall, Moroccan wages are amongst the higest in Africa but still a fraction of European ones, so for now at least so it's pretty convenient to travel economicaly in Morocco still, if one knows what to do

Morocco has definitely something for everyone - we’ve spent there one month, and we’ve been on the high horse, and we have also rolled cheaply in that time. I’m from North-East Europe, and I found Morocco to be much more expensive for things like accommodation, food shopping in supermarkets and other daily expenses. But yes, you’re totally right - if you know what you’re doing, you can live your best life in Morocco on very little. We spent a few days with a local family in Fes, and they showed us a bit of the real way living of Morocco. Wish we had more of that experience, but we intend to return to dig deeper after we’ve scratched the surface! Thank you for watching us ❤️
