I really appreciate your thoughts on this. I have a lot of gay celibate friends that are currently being very hurt by the cultural discussion around this subject in the church. If we care more about ultra-nuanced theological language around sexual sin more than people it’s a problem

Christ was tempted - but Christ never felt tempted. Temptation has a dual meaning, it also means 'tested'. Dominant theology resists characterising Christ as actually being internally capable of feeling tempted towards an illicit outcome, instead Christ's temptation is all external - He is shown things and bargained with externally, it never arises to the experience of temptation or an affective orientation towards a sinful act. ---- I am a non-theist, but I was raised Catholic - and this is what I recall from my attempts to understand temptation.
