Is the 2012 Macbook Pro Worth Buying in 2021? | 4k Editing on the 2012 MacBook Pro

Can I use this 8-year-old MacBook in 2021 for video editing and photo editing? This is the Mid 2012 MacBook Pro and it takes almost around 2 minutes to boot. So I installed an SSD in it and today I am going to try video editing on it and see if we can edit 4K videos in final cut pro on an 8-year-old MacBook.

Yup i am still using my 2012 for editing 4k 60fps videos from my iphone 12 although they stutter sometime, but most of the times it gets the job done, 8 year old yet so relevant.

Upgrade to a SSD and an older version of Final Cut Pro X and you are good to go... I think 10.4 or 10.3 version will work on it.

I never used any video editing software because I don't have knowledge about it. I've bought a dji drone for research which can also output 10 bit 4K RAW. Should I buy Latest M1 pro with 16 GB unified RAM macbook pro model or can use this existing devices to edit 4K RAW using final cut pro or Davinci Resolve? Increase RAM and HARD-DRIVE. Check the battery and display. If all is ok then it's perfect.

To check macs purchase date you can try this link, “selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do” maybe you can find the date of purchase. Also i5, 16GB sounds good. You would have to probably upgrade the ssd as per your requirement. Battery you can get replaced not a big issue. But check if the model of MacBook is supported for updates or not. Like does it support OS Monterey. If it does than for 25k it’s a good deal. But check it thoroughly and then decide. It’s your decision, don’t go by my word. I take no responsibility if something goes wrong after purchasing.

First of all, apart from the specs you also have to see the condition of the hardware like the motherboard, processor, display, keyboard, trackpad, etc. Also, for what purpose are you buying the MacBook for should be the main criteria here.

Depending on your work requirment. 1st difference is the performance, the pros will give you better performance than the air. The 2nd is the weight - air is much lighter than the pro. So choose between performance and weight what is right for you.

If you are low on budget and don’t really care for the latest version of FCPX or the OS then yes totally worth it. Just upgrade the RAM install a SSD and you are good to go.
