The transmission in the Escape (which shares its design with the one used in several Toyotas; the companies cross-license the patents) is NOT a CVT in the conventional sense. It does not have belts and cones and no wear points like the those found in Nissans and other makes. Instead, it's an E-CVT which works by using a planetary gearset. The input from the engine is fed into one of the inputs, while the shaft from the motor-generator is fed to another. By varying the speed of the electric motor, you can change the drive ratio between the engine and the output shaft as well as split the power input to use just the motor or the engine or both. It's an extremely efficient and clever design and virtually bullet-proof, as there are no friction-based connections. It also doesn't produce that rubber-banding sensation you get with a conventional CVT.
@pepehands33992 жыл бұрын
Well not that many people understand the difference between cvt and e-cvt. Thats the sad part. Almost all automotive youtuber dont understand even the slightest concept of different types of engine, or transmission, even audio quality.
@StamatakosTom57912 жыл бұрын
Excellent point, its a big point of differentiation! Sadly its still not that fun to drive but unfortunately 80% of drivers don't care. Hoping at least the paddle shift options remain available for those of us who like to hear the engine :)
@wallyballou74172 жыл бұрын
@@StamatakosTom5791 There's no paddle shift in the Escape Hybrid. As in a Prius, the engine is somewhat decoupled from the wheels. If you can get past that, it's a very smooth driving experience - acceleration is even and linear. It drives much more like an electric car than a gas one.

I had a fusion with a large screen down low and now own a 19 CX-5 with a screen similar to this and it is a HUGE difference to me so much easier to view with it up high on the dash closer to the windshield plus the look of this I prefer over having a huge square cut out in the center of your dash to me that is much worse where as this style when you turn the screen off or took it out it doesn’t effect anything. What I’m saying is people complain saying it looks like an afterthought and I’m thinking shouldn’t it?

From far away and behind it I thought it was a new Volvo (kind of looks like the new XC40 from behind) - as I approached I realized it was the new Escape. Have to say, I was blown away by how great it looks. A few days later I saw it from the front and yes, did remind me of a Porsche SUV (which to me is a great thing). The 2012 to 2019 generation has a rear seat that is too low and too short and flat (like it was made only for small people), and I was hoping the new Escape would have a higher and deeper bottom cushion. But it does not! I also found the front seats to feel kind of small or flat. They just didn't feel right. I am 5'10". Having a 2017 RAV4 Hybrid, I sat in a 2020 RAV4 to compare also and those seats are nothing to write home about either.... no improvement over mine. It also feels like it has slightly better acceleration than the escape. The escape feels a little more solid to me and is smoother over bumps. It still handles well for its class. I really feel these modes are very important when you buy a hybrid, I already drived the Scape Hybrid 2020 and the normal mode is amazing, you get a lot of power, and is highly appreciated but sometimes you don't need it, sometimes you are chill and want to save some gas, but other times you need power when you are on a high way and wish you hadn't bought a hybrid, that's why we need the sports mode too. The Nissan X-TTAIL hybrid doesn't have modes and the motor is a piece of shit, no power at all. How is it that you make time to talk about how many snickers and other candy bars you can fit in the compartment and gloss over the rotary gear shift which is a major difference in comparable suvs!?

Hey Rati's Rides great video . Is the Ford escape better than the rav4 ? Is that even a question. There a a reason Toyota sold 400,000 rav4 and that's reliability. I wouldn't buy a escape even if you payed me too.

CVT = continuously variable transmission, which works differently than a transmission with gears or different "speeds" Best thing to do is google it and get a better explanation than I can give.
