At $ 25K, this is by far the best value (civic Si, GTI etc included) for just $ 675 Cobb Accessport/Tune and a $250 muffler delete, this transforms and easily keeps up w most cars that cost twice. Pain Killer the extra 20 hp stage one gives this is not going to allow is not going to allow it to keep up with a 50 grand vehicle. And why would you get a muffler delete if you want your car to perform better. Its purely for sound
@painkilerr4 жыл бұрын
@@EulogizingSleep Here is a simple breakdown for you. Muffler delete is only for sound yes, that's why you would get it, that's pretty obvious. I never said it gives extra power. Stage 1 doesn't only give extra power, it moves the powerband since stock tune was awful when it came to torque/hp, as the car ran out of gas at higher RPM. When it comes keeping up w 50k cars.... Well not going waste time listing them, you can do some research yourself.

Tbh, for my money, I’ll take this over the sti because the WRX engine is a modern new engine released in 2015, but the sti engine been released since 2004 and it’s still being used in the new sti, the WRX stock exhaust sounds louder than the sti stock exhaust, also I can build my WRX and convert it into an sti with the wing install, coilovers, Brembo brakes, wheel swap, fog light delete and make the it air functional, the old Impreza WRX seats, exhaust swap, rear bumper third braking light installations, and tuning. The sti is the same WRX but tuned and modified straight from the factory rather than by the owners. So if you’re an diy enthusiast, then get the WRX and avoid the sti because the WRX is an customizable and tunable car. So my money is going for the wrx.

Some would say I am crazy, but I am selling my Type R (2018) to grab a new 2020 base wrx and a nice used roadster or rwd car next summer. Depreciation wise the other trims are not worth it imo. The STI right now will eat a large depreciation hit next year once the much needed engine refresh happens, the wrx not so much. This 2020 will be a fun daily year round (here in canada) and for a non track guy like me (I am a honda fanboy that made his dream come true!) the wrx is plenty of fun fpr street driving. The Type R is cool, but for the street only, I'd say it is not the best choice.

Do i miss my sti no because I know I wasn’t going to do that in the sti scared of blowing the engine and I didn’t have 5,000 in my package to fix it just in case the dealer was not going to take care of the car! Yes the sti is a more complete car than the wrx! Is a big difference day and knight! But if you know your limited and want to play with your car the wrx is The cheapest way now is to keep the car stock go for the sti all day!

Awesome review Joe!! I think this base Wrx and the Civic Si are as good as it gets for mid $20k!! Before I bought my 19’ civic Type R I had a 2017 Si! It was a lot of car for the money!! The new gen Si was fairly quick for what it was!! Also in my 17’ Si I would get upper 30 mpg’s and around 30 in town!! The intiriory is nicer in the Si than the base Wrx!! But I would be happy with either the Wrx or Si if I were in the market for one!! Keep up the great content Joe!! You are a heck of a great guy inside out!! 🚙👍🏽🙏🏻

You're not lying about the space. I had a set of 4 wheels and tires plus a jack plus the tools to swap em out in my car for a while. Yes it takes your back seat room but there's something impressive about a sports car being able to carry it's own parts inside. But I would never buy this car in black. It looks so safe and boring. I got mine in white. The white, black, red color styling suits this car incredibly well and the white shows off the fender flaring.

Hey Joe, did Subaru fix the rev hang for the 2020? That's the one thing I hate about mine, shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. But I have learned to manage it. Roads in Ohio can be terrible, especially in my city. Wished we had roads like Florida.

I'm considering buying a 2020 WRX, but the oil consumption issue has me concerned. Based on the limited info I could find, the WRX FA20 engine doesn't seem to have this problem as much as other versions of this engine, but I'm trying to verify it before I plop down the $$. I drive over 20,000 miles per year and I definitely don't want to deal with oil consumption and all the problems that come with it. Can any current gen WRX owners reading this verify their amount of consumption, if any?

@dlg54854 жыл бұрын
@@RaitisRides That's why I'm hoping to get some actual owners with actual experience to chime in. I think it's only the FB engines that use 0w20 oil. I'm pretty sure the WRX's still require 5w30 which is a thicker oil.

I purchased a 2015 WRX base model but found the engine tune almost undriveable. The boost setpoint was way too high at low RPM. The result, if the turbo was spooled up it would take off and if not it was totally dead. Driveability sucked. The Cobb Accessport ($650 unexpected charge) fixed this plus the rev hang bug. The car has performed flawlessly since for 5+ years. The low end punch is gone though.
@jGRite4 жыл бұрын
The engine seeming dead is normal for a turbo car when it's not ready. I hate when it happens, but it doesn't last long. I recommend a custom tune. I got mine from Boosted Performance Tuning. I have no complains with the acceleration. Although I know why Subaru tuned it the way they did. It's to protect the transmission. That poor little clutch can't handle the fa20 true potential.
@underster4 жыл бұрын
Andrew Soddy Andrew Soddy 100% agree on Cobb AP. 130k on mine. Reliable and better than stock. I also found that gas made a huge difference. After 100k it was hard to tune to 93 even with top tier, so I switched to 91 tune. Just happens with age and I tested two “93” stations with $25 Amazon kits that were nowhere near 93.
@EulogizingSleep4 жыл бұрын
underster yea no one uses a 93 tune for that very reason. You would be hard pressed to find anyone running the ots 93 tune
@Andrew-oh2nr4 жыл бұрын
@@EulogizingSleep OK, interesting what others are doing. I have always run the Cobb 93 octane OTS tune but am still at 55k miles. The DAM knock monitor runs in the 60-90 range most of the time. Whether the DAM is high or low it does not seem to affect engine performance. The 91 octane OTS tune to me seemed very noticeably slower and I think the fuel economy was worse as well.
