So a Drake Corsair can have many guns and be called an exploration, but the 890 Jump, which costs nearly as much as Polaris and is listed as exploration, can't be well-armed? Streamers and the Drake community have major double standards. There is a thread not made by me called " 890 Solo?" by backer Jengo go read what they have to say about the 890 jump being solo.

I remember first time i saw 890 - it was at boarding mission and i had Aurora :) Now i have small fleet of 5 ships but each wipe 890 is my first target. Next wipe will be hard because of price spike but i like those changes so i think will be buying it again :)

The more I see the 890j the more I want one. However... imagine the reworked 600i with AI blades. Dual size 3 turrets on top and bottom. one salvo from either of those turrets will out dps the 890s 5 pds salvo described in the vid. And 3 pilot controlled size 5s and every single ammenity the 890 has, albeit in a smaller scale. the Reworked 600i exp will be the true origin experience. Just saying. It will be an incredibly capable vessel.

I like the idea of origin ships being good at touring and running away. They should be good at defending themselves and not being aggressive. This they really need to fix the 400i 😬

The PDG range is too short (2km) to be much use in any sort of PvP engagement. It is another case of CIG making a PvP game but balancing for PvE, like the Redeemer's nerf.

Imo PDS are a great addition. It gives me hope that multicrew will be really viable and ships like Hammerhead won't be trivial for swety light fighter pilots. Can't wait to see how Engineering will change the game

Honest Question: Do the PDCs work on Player characters? ie. players NOT in ships? If so, wouldnt that essentially make stealth gameplay ... well dead? Just curious. I know that stealth isnt worked out properly at present. But the only way to get on some ships is to board them directly. If the PDC just mercs you before you get close, a stealth ship isnt going to do it either lol. And ships like the Prowler (as much as I love them) are basically lies at this point in game. Both Mechanically and Lore wise. There is literally NO way a Prowler is causing a whole fleet to crap its pants if you can literally just look out a window and see it. Or you know.. scan and see "oh yeah ship here and its as big or bigger than a cutlass black..."

As far as I know, it will target players if they're considered hostile. Meaning they have to do damage to the ship or have a crime stat.

PDS seems amazing, but they also make any player spending his time manning a turret look a bit silly when an AI can do such a good job.

Yeah, but they're only size 1.. I think the turrets, themselves are kinda poor on the Polaris. They are not suited at all for targeting anything smaller than large ships. The visibility is so bad.

@@ForgeCoreGaming I understand that, but I don't see why it would be more taxing on the ship CPU to use the same targeting system for any turrets with guns of all sizes. Seems wasteful to put a player in a manned turret when a CPU can be so accurate and efficient.

@@DanyF02 Oh I agree - but we can't forget that it's a game.. and one for which the developers have a vision.. So the decisions they make SHOULD align with that vision. But you're right - in a more realistic scenario, there wouldn't be any players in any turrets if automation was that effective.

Am a corection maybe its that polaris is 181m long not 166 so is more like 20m of difference with 890j you can see this by doing the 890j mision and punting the polaris under the 890 and using the 300i as the "missing" lenght of it and in that line erkul is using the real size of the thing CIG page is kinda old

You cant compare them one is luxury exploration ship one is a war machine 890 is stong enaugh to survive but main Focus is exploring and touring rich npcs around the system and make a fortune when we Get the gameplay

It has pilot missiles.... Just like polaris, retaliator etc. In regards to statement it has no pilot controlled weapons. Sure it has no guns for pilot. They really need to fix the manned turret graphical glitches on jump to make it truly usable. But pds change is really nice.

Origin and the 890j in particular arent supposed to be amazing or super useful for combat, hauling, or anything else we do in game currently. Its a giant luxury yacht designed for you and your buddies to show off and scare away small scale threats long enough to run away from any fights it manages to find. Irl yachts arent exceptionally useful either

You might be new and not know this, but they were promised missions for luxury ships like the 890J; but as you may know, their word means nothing and we’ll see if they actually do something.

I would fully expect the ability for PDCs to target ships to go away. They are meant as missle defense platforms and CIG is most likely testing their AI's ability to target ships in preparation for AI blades which will significantly change this conversation. I also wouldn't expect a luxury yacht to be good at combat especially when comparing it to the Polaris.

well it doesn't seem like it's good to at combat, it's lackluster in combat against AI. If a player is in the small fighters would be able to exploit holes in defenses and stay within the sweet spot where PDCs are too far to lock on.

This is the issue that CIG has created and continues to fail at solving. Balancing in PVE leads to ineffective in PVP performance. All the people claiming this is op or spouting off 'muh multi-crew' nonsense are completely missing the issue. There is a fundamental flaw in SC and how it has been designed that will be very difficult for CIG to fix without drastic measures.

I sold my 890 for $2300. I really hated it: long, cumbersome hallways. Chockfull of pure role-playing stuff, as if I got stuck in one of those tedious Lord of the Rings MMOs. Good riddance

Wdym good now it’s just been made a lot worse 10x slower 10x weaker only difference is the point defence cannons it was at its best a year or two ago as it was the strongest ship in the game with a few million hp now it only has 150,000

point defense shooting at fighters is still baffling to me. sidestepping the shoddy friend or foe system shooting at your own fliers AI turrets had their own balance in taking up additional power draw. The 890 isnt a combat craft pds should only be there to keep it alive until backup arrives or escape so it should still not perform well. Any of the larger combat oriented crafts have multiple manned turrets to cover a majority of the ship. Maybe a controversial take but if you want to run a capital you actually need crew. The 890 will likely be without utility for a while till passenger missions are around filling the role saud kruger did in ED being the upscale refined people carrier to the genesis mass transit. Its a yatch and even in the real world they are without utility for everyone except the lavishly rich to host parities on. Good test procedure its just asking if a rolls royce could be an effective main battle tank.

A Capital Ship is basically a flagship of a fleet, usually based upon size and capability. It doesn't necessarily have to be combat oriented. In Star Citizen it is many times attributed to ships with Capital Sized components, which the Reclaimer does have.
