The AdvancedFrame kayak from Advanced Elements is an awesome inflatable kayak. No doubt about it. But that doesn't mean it is going to be the best choice for you.
Advanced Elements have a huge range of inflatable kayaks and to get the best paddling experience, you need to choose the right one.
This video explains who the AdvancedFrame kayak is best suited to, and shows you some of the amazing features that Advanced Elements have built into it.
It is quite a versatile kayak, being stable enough for beginners, but capable of open ocean and multi-day expeditions as well.
The AdvancedFrame kayak is exceptionally comfortable and supportive. It is also very quick to set up - under 5 minutes from in the bag to on the water.
At 16kg and 3.2m long, it is possible for most customers to easily carry this kayak down to the water.
If you have fallen in love by the end of the video (with the AdvancedFrame kayak, not with me...), get yours now at:

The SKU is AE1012-R

I've actually got one of these now and am going through a series of tests which are going to lead to a review of my own on my channel at some stage. Overal I agree that it's a great kayak particularly considering it's a hybrid design. I have a question regarding inflation which is not made clear in any of the videos when it comes to inflation. All of them speak about partially inflating chamber 1 first and then moving to chamber 2 and inflating it to 2 psi. They then go on to speak about the floor, deck lifts and combing. At no time do they go back to chamber 1 ensure that that is also inflated it to 2 psi (like chamber 2). Can you please clarify whether you're meant to go back to chamber 1 and ensure that it is also inflated to 2 psi?
@OzinflatablekayaksAu
@OzinflatablekayaksAu 6 жыл бұрын
No, you don't need to go back to chamber 1. There is a wall between the two chambers. When you inflate the second chamber to 2 PSI, the wall pushes on chamber 1, increasing the pressure in that chamber. You will end up with the same pressure in each chamber because the wall acts as a pressure equaliser. Not sure if my explanation has made sense??? It's kind of hard to explain!

I bought one of these kayaks about a year ago. I've had a great time taking it on foreign holidays and using it at home. Very pleased with it. If I get the OK from Oz Inflatables, I will put a link to the video I made. While on holiday in Corsica. Highly recommend this kayak.

Laura McMullen How are you finding the backbone? I've tested mine with the standard floor and the dropstitch floor over a 6.4 km course and found the dropstitch floor over 4 mins faster. However it came at a cost to comfort. The standard floor is more comfortable. I'm interested in the backbone and know it goes under the standard floor but I'm concerned that sitting on a pole will be noticeable. How do you find it compared to just using the standard floor when it comes to comfort and how does it compare for speed?

Great video! I purchased an Advanced Frame not too long ago and am enjoying it. Two areas I'm personally not happy with are the high back seat, which is about 6" too tall and interferes with your PFD. Plus the lack of any foot brace... I made a separate purchase of the AE adjustable foot braces, which attach to the inner tube of the IK. However, the straps interfere with the inflatable tubes for the front spray deck. Plus, because of there location and shape of the inner tube, the braces toe inwards with the adjustment tabs pressed against the sides of the tube. Far from ideal.
@OzinflatablekayaksAu
@OzinflatablekayaksAu 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, yes most PFDs do not work with that seat - we specifically sell 2 models that do NOT interfere with the high seat: www.ozinflatablekayaks.com.au/product-category/accessories/pfds/ Also, regarding the foot support, I would typically sell the foot brace rather than the foot pegs with the AdvancedFrame kayak because of the exact problems you mentioned. The foot pegs work much better with the AdvancedFrame Convertible models in the solo seating position. Here is the link to the foot brace that works well with the AdvancedFrame and AdvancedFrame Sport (and front seat padder of the AdvancedFrame Convertibles): www.ozinflatablekayaks.com.au/product/inflatable-foot-brace/ Thanks for your feedback! Cheers, Emily.

Can you do the centre ridge pole in this kayak instead of the drop stitched floor and does it have a fin on the bottom so you don't need the rudder?
@OzinflatablekayaksAu
@OzinflatablekayaksAu 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Vicki. Yes, you can use the Backbone in the AdvancedFrame - that is the pole that goes inside the kayak under the floor. Here is the link to the backbone if you want to check it out: www.ozinflatablekayaks.com.au/product/accessories/backbones-floors/backbone-advancedframe-kayaks/ Yes, there is a fin on the bottom, but it is a fixed fin, it doesn't allow you to steer with your feet like the rudder does. Cheers, Emily.

Thank you for this informative video. How is the drying after use? I think that is one of the most important, if not the most important thing for people who live in an apartment. Personally I have no way to dry the kayak once I pack it up into the car. People say that some kayaks with several layers of material stay wet forever and are prone to rotting.
@OzinflatablekayaksAu
@OzinflatablekayaksAu 4 жыл бұрын
Good question. It really depends on how wet it gets. I've found that if I fold it up a little bit wet and leave the bag open, the moisture wicks out. Plus, the fabric is treated with protectant that prevents mould and mildew etc. If it's really wet, then that won't work, you would need to towel it off as best you could, and then find somewhere in the apartment to open it up and let it dry. It doesn't need to be inflated, just open. I tend to get the kayaks quite wet if I am swimming or if I take the kids. But if it's just me on a relatively calm day, there's hardly any wetness. Cheers, Emily.

How does this kayak compare gm performance to the Sport?
@OzinflatablekayaksAu
@OzinflatablekayaksAu 6 жыл бұрын
The performance is the same as the Sport model, but it has a higher weight capacity. It can take 136kg instead of 113kg for the Sport. And it has the narrow cockpit with the inflatable coaming so you can attach a spray skirt.

Is there room for a 14" tall, 17 lb jack russell to ride along? and would that be in the cockpit, or on the bough? also... after using it at camp, can it be left inflated for the next day's use?
@emilypeyton6647
@emilypeyton6647 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Laura - don't leave it fully inflated when it is out of the water. You don't necessarily need to pack it away, but you do need to let some air out. And don't leave it in the sun, ever. Regarding your dog, he/she would have to be in the cockpit, not on the deck. He may well fit, it's hard to say. You can always move the seat back by loosening the straps to give him/her more room. Hope this helps!

Check the AdvancedFrame DS XLC. A slightly longer (5 inches more) version of this kayak. It has a zip off coaming that will allow more leg room and better accommodate a 4 legged friend.

doubt ill get a reply being the video is 3 years old now. But would you recommend this to a first time kayak buyer? I'm really only wanting a kayak to go out on the lake with some buddies to fish and every once in a while go down a relatively slower moving river with some shallow spots with rocks. Is it durable enough where rocks wouldnt tear it up? and can you stand up in it?
@OzinflatablekayaksAu
@OzinflatablekayaksAu 4 жыл бұрын
Hi! Yes, definitely a great first kayak because it is stable, easy to paddle and quick to set up. It's very durable with rocks, you might get some cosmetic scratches, but it would take something VERY sharp with a LOT of force to damage the hull. No, you can't stand up in it. Cheers, Emily.

We've got an accessories frame to put on ours. Unfortunately I haven't seen any videoes on how to do this. The instructions suggest that for the Advanced Frame you actually cut into the deck and glue it from the other side. To say the least we are not going to do this and I see no reason why it can't be stuck on top like the straight edged fishing one. Can you speak to this issue at all and if possible do a video on attaching accessory frames.
@emilypeyton6647
@emilypeyton6647 6 жыл бұрын
This post from Air Kayaks shows how they cut out the deck material to install the accessory frame: airkayaks.wordpress.com/2013/07/06/installing-the-advanced-elements-accessory-frame-on-an-inflatable-kayak/ The reason it can be stuck directly onto the StraitEdge is the material - the StraitEdge line has PVC Tarpaulin tube covers, whereas the AdvancedFrame line has rip-stop polyester decks.
@EnduranceSwimmer
@EnduranceSwimmer 5 жыл бұрын
Emily Peyton I recently asked my local kayak shop and they didn't think there would be an issue sticking it on top. I am less than comfortable about this either way I must say having spent so much money on it. There are other mounting attachments you can get but all involve gluing and presumably all get glued onto the deck.
@OzinflatablekayaksAu

Sorry, I only just saw your reply now. The thing to remember is the Advanced Elements themselves are recommending to cut the deck material - it's not like you are going AGAINST the manufacturer's suggested use, if you know what I mean?

The weight capacity is 136 kg with the normal floor, but wouldn’t it be higher with the drop stich floor in? If so, how much is it then? I know this video is old but hope you can answer, since i can’t find this info anywhere even today.
@OzinflatablekayaksAu
@OzinflatablekayaksAu 2 ай бұрын
Hey there Alfahippie! Cheers for your comment. Advanced Elements didn't reassess the weight rating when the drop stitch floor was added. It would definitely be higher we aren't sure of the exact number. What we can tell you though is that it definitely increases the performance, tracking and rigidity in the water! @@OzinflatablekayaksAu Ok, thank you. But if you had to make a guess, what would you say was a realistic weight limit with the drop stitch floor? 150 kilo maybe, or more? I’m not gonna hold you responsible if i sink, i promise:)

Hahahah I wish it was that easy@@Alfahippie. Hi Leonard, yes you could definitely fish from it if you wish. Just to note though, if you do like to stand and cast, you will not be able to stand up in this kayak. This kayak also has a nice soft floor so you might want to consider adding a drop stitch floor or a dura floor as these protect the floor against hooks and lures etc. :)
