Is the Airstream Rangeline Campervan our Unicorn?

Glad you went to check out the Airstream Rangeline. First off, we agree with the issue you’ve raised. However, we’ve learned that there is no perfect van… we looked at all of them and considered building out our own before we discovered the Rangeline. What we’ve done is: Supplemented by adding a solar generator (that we have sitting underneath the dining table) to boil our hot water for tea/coffee. Regarding the electrical pop up on the kitchen counter… it has a physical plug on it that plugs in under the lower cabinet under the sink. You can unplug that and plug it into an extension cord and route the wire up to the outlet that’s in the cabinet above the microwave (which is on when the inverter is on). Others have done this. We haven’t had to. We’ve been very happy with our solar generator, which is capable of doing the job. Regarding the 2,000 watt inverter… yes, it is small, but overall we’ve grown accustomed to it and find the power system well-balanced. We mostly boon-dock & rarely have hookups. Additionally, solar is lacking, but we’ve added a 400 watt portable solar panel (which folds nicely and fits well in the ‘garage’). Long drives charge everything fully with no problems. Thanks for the follow-up! Yes, it's a really nice van and came _so_ close to ticking all our checkboxes. We definitely could have figured out a way to make it work, but there were a few other considerations that we didn't mention in the video. Basically the inverter issue plus a lot of other small things that added up. Again, thanks for the suggestion. So, so close! 😁😁😁

Definitely. We had a good price pre-negotiated, but unfortunately the issues we ran into just weren't easily resolved.

Yea rt... sight unseen negotiated price and made of down payment. It's about as dumb as your video. You spend the whole time in your car or in your living room rather than showing the van that we really know nothing about. Thanks for nothing.

They list for $200,000 CAD+. This one was last year's model and had a list sales price of $179,000 CAD. We had negotiated a price lower than that, but agreed not to disclose the final accepted offer.

A valid opinion! It's a fairly minor problem. Our issue is that we can't seem to fix the minor problem without voiding the warranty! And that in itself ends up being a major problem! 😀

@@HomeARoamwhy do you need so many ? You can’t use them all at once anyway on an inverter… Our roadtrek has only 2 one at the slide door and one in the kitchen…..but we get along just fine. And it’s old so a smaller inverter. However,😁 You said no propane? THAT is the deal breaker. Useless to have a van without that. And a generator that uses propane too.

I differently agree with you. Vehicles are very expensive and it gets worst when more people want one ! Waiting for the right is tough to handle and you might not enjoy it if it feels to small !! You never know , maybe rent one in Calgary or some where near you are . As always I enjoy your channel and your adventures!! BS & BK & BC !!

Seems strange that that would be how they deal with ac voltage. So they want the pedestal or generator to charge the batteries and you to run AC from the inverter? Or am I confused. Sorry you’re so close. Was it 4wd?

Hey Jerry, it seems like basically they want you to be running the generator all the time. Which obviously isn't always possible! Yeah, I have no idea why they're so insistent that only a few outlets can be wired to the inverter. Who knows, maybe @Airstream-Inc will comment. 😁

The immutable laws of electricity and the inconvenient laws of safety and economy may be the reason you can’t have what you want from the electrical system of the van. I’d be interested in any response from Airstream.

Yes, we'd be interested too. It's a very annoying issue. Would be great if there were some way to address it without having to toss the warranty in the garbage...

Yes, we've heard of the fiat ducato. Sadly we cannot get it here in Canada and we would not be able to find anyone to fix it if we imported one and had mechanical issues.

Well, $200k or $175k is a lot of money for such a small space. I know you love the van concept, I get it. However, we have a 2014 Fleetwood Discovery that has so much space. We tow a Jeep. You could probably get a Jeep and a ten year old Diesal pusher for under $200k. Just a thought. I love the room and no issues with all the electrical! Happy Trails! :)

Agreed 100% it's a huge amount of money for something so small. But we definitely want to be more small and agile than when he had the truck and 25' travel trailer. Ideally we want something that can be parked in a regular parking space. But has all the major amenities. And that's tough to find! 😁

We just couldn't figure out a good reason to limit the number of outlets connected to the inverter. And then especially have a policy to void the entire warranty if anything is changed.
