The Defender partycade is one of the best things Arcade1up has ever put out. The monitor, sound, games list and looks of the partycade itself. Everything about it is top-notch quality. Nothing to complain about other than maybe it'd be nice to have it in a 3/4 size scale, as well. Oh, and of course the marquee can usually be better on most Arcade1up machines. To me, it's just an extra feature I'm not too worried about. I really just want it to deliver on picture, sound, games and to just be a generally nice looking cab. It does exactly that.

It is the little touches that I like, particularly in Gorf. Like how they emulated the lamps on the Space Rank. Once you beat the flag ship and start back at the first level, the Space Rank will 'light up' the next rank. As for the marquee, it is washed out a little. If you look closely at it, you see this lines on the black, if that makes sense. It is like a black line, then missing a line, then black line, etc. Think that may cause it to wash out, but could be wrong...may not be the same issue on your marquee.

I agree with everything you said. It’s an awesome cabinet with 6 more games than the Rampage cabinet I replaced it with. For me it was also about freeing up space. With a 10x12 room I’m always trying to find a spot to put all my collectibles. Hanging this on my door let me use the empty Rampage space to add a whole new display cabinet. That’s a win for me on so many levels. Love the channel. Thx for the great videos!

Best Damn Title List offered! Great controls for most of the titles. I’m the Gorf nut in this community and it’s awesome to get the title. Any right handed fan of Gorf isn’t liking these controls. Playing left-handed so you can fire with your right.....Wrong😫.. I’ve already gutted my Defender partycade and now in the process of building a new cabinet with a proper control deck for all the titles... especially Gorf!! God bless GRS! 😁🙌

I think it IS the Catalina wine mixer 100% I personally use the USB and an Xbox controller for the main control for Sinistar. Much tighter turns more precise turns like the arcade!!! Try it

Great effing review, Patrick! So glad you took a chance with this one and are enjoying it, I love the damn thing. Defender and Wizard of Wor work so much better with Sinistar and Gorf, it makes for a great space sci fi package. One other thing to mention, I really like being able to add lives and toggle the difficulty levels to make the challenge more tolerable on games like Defender and Sinistar. I give myself ten lives on Sinistar and don’t give a sh!t because I like killing the damn thing. Enjoy the f$&(ing Catalina Wine Mixer bro!!

Since I got this partycade, my ALU is collecting dust. I did change the buttons to better ones and changed the joystick spring. You must at the least change the fire button to a better one and get a green smartbomb button and red hyperspace button. Defender was my game growing up and finally, the search is over. It's funny that they messed up your order cause they messed up mine too. They originally sent me a Super Pac-Man instead of Defender so I ended up returning that which was a pain but I did end up getting a better deal on Defender in the end. You must practice to get good at Defender but the time spent is worth it cause it is a great game and is always a challenge. Once your muscle memory kicks in, you will be flying like Tom Cruise.

I basically agree with what you said and let me just add personally I waited for arcade1up to put out a defender with the right controls layout, it’s the reason I never got the 1st gen cabinet with defender or the 3/4 scale because of the control layout, certain games you need the original control panel configuration and I think defender falls into that category but if they ever put out a 3/4 scale version with the original controls I would definitely buy it. The only other thing I would say is again this is just my opinion, I wouldn’t have added gauntlet but instead have added stargate and an extra button for inviso, just my .02 cents

PDubs, This was the Defender I was hoping to get, but Arcade1up came out with their Defender variant of the Midway Legacy and I didn't bank on them coming out with another Defender product, especially with the original arcade control layout. Having said that, it's a give and take between the two. I played SO MUCH Defender and Stargate in the arcade so I was used to the original control layout. However, whoever at Arcade1up came up with the control layout on the Defender Midway Legacy was a genius, because it took me no time to learn and I'm just as good now as I was in the arcade with very little muscle memory change. A plus to the Defender Partycade that brings a tear to my eye is it has Gorf. If this Partycade came out with a Gorf skin, I would've bought it. A plus to the Defender Midway Legacy, Tapper with two joystick control. I just couldn't give that up and go with the Partycade over my Legacy. As for the light-up marquee, so sorry to hear the wash out issues. I can tell you, that isn't the case with the Ms. Pac-Man 10 in 1 Partycade. The blacks are so deep that if it was a screen, you would think it OLED. Why Arcade1up decided to cheap out on the Defender Partycade marquee is beyond me. Well... I wish the bottom were less tall on the partycades. They don't work well for seated tabletop play. It puts the controls a bit too high to be comfortable unlike the countercades. I'd like to see this as a countercade with a wide 1-player control panel the width of the 2-player countercades or as a 3/4 cab. Game selection and control panel is nice though.

@@PDubsArcadeLoft Hey, just pointing out the obvious. I'm not complaining. I am giving feedback as a consumer. They have messed up with Defender controls in the past. Now you bring out a product with great artwork, proper button layout, and a great lineup of games but you put it in a Partycade?! That would have been a hot cab and based on the reviews of the Partycade, a hot seller in 3/4 scale. They could reissued it with new controls and Wi-Fi leaderboards. I'll give credit where credit is due. I just picked up the Atari Legacy Tempest cab and love it. The trackball is not bad and the spinner is improved. Feels cheap but it's playable. Pac-Mania would have been a home run if not for the monitor. It has a better lineup than the Ms. Pac-Man cab that's coming out. I would pre-order that cab but am waiting for confirmation that it has a BOE monitor. I passed on Centipede and opted for Tempest because of the monitor.

It would have been the "Catalina Wine Mixer" if they would have had "Timber" on here. I own one of these and I give it an 8 out of 10 for the buttons and the exclusion of "Timber." And by the way, I'm not a Sinistar expert, but I am pretty good at it, and the game is definitely playable with the 8-way joystick. Some reviewers say the game is not playable, I argue that it is, I was able to destroy Sinistar 3 times with just 5 ships. The 8-way joystick is not ideal for Sinistar, but it IS very playable.

My Marquee is perfect no wash out at all . Sinister is hard due to joystick but you can adapt . If Star Wars is a 10 out of 10 this easily a 9.9 (personnel opinion). Second best 1up product ever made. Now make a 3/4 scale I buy day one. Tron and Dragons Lair take a back seat to this masterpiece. Respect the partycade ( try Galaga next it’s just as good)

I have this partycade. I absolutely had to add adhesive backed rubber feet. Otherwise the partycade starts to walk. I can see it in your gameplay footage that it was moving on you. I got a variety pack off of Amazon it was like seven or eight bucks for a few hundred various sized rubber feet. I also have the Pac-Man Partycade and did the same to that one. Neither of them move a bit now when I play.

You can change the Defender setting so that the joystick acts as a 4-way stick, and you don't have to use the Reverse button. Also, only the tabletop Mortal Kombat™ Head-to-Head Arcade1Up has Gorf besides this Partycade... unless you want to pay $3000 for the Arcade Legends 3 full sized arcade machine to get a legal Gorf ROM option!

I made my own control panel with my MAME set up. I used a short height stick that only goes up and down. That is the CORRECT controller for Defender. Having a 4 or 8 way stick is totally rubbish.

I actually do not agree on the marquee. Sure, if you get close enough, you may indeed see print lines, however, compared to my third party light up marquees, this is light years better. The black is much deeper than any of my other units, and, I've had to print my own method for my Asteroids 8 gamer, sitting right next to the Defender PC, to get the same level of opacity, richness and deep color. Consider also, I very recently had the pleasure of playing on a refurbed 1982 release with original marquee, which was in great condition.. but, even the real thing had a level of opacity issue.

This is undoubtedly… the Catalina Wine Mixer! I personally think the latest gen of the Partycade is their best overall product line. Not in the sense that it speaks to the arcade purist, but the art/aesthetics, versatility… this unit though… as perfect as an A1U has come, or can be 😂

Hmmm, can’t play Tapper properly though with one joystick. Rampage and Gauntlet are famously multiplayer games that can only be played single player. This is far from Catalina Wine Mixer! Also, please try to avoid the “in my opinion” repetitions if you could. It is self-evident that all of this is your opinion. No biggie of course, just one of those tweaks that would make it easier to listen to.

Tapper works fine using the joystick to move up down and a simple button press to pour and send the mug down the bar, there is no room on this device for a second joystick for tapper, is it authentic no but it works fine. The USB port on the device you can have someone plug in a controller and play with you.

You can plug a USB controller in if you want to add a second player. These are not actual cabinets so I don't expect a control panel 4 inches wide to have full controls for 2 players.
