I took the BMW R1250GS out for a full days ride on and off road on the fantastic Spanish mountain roads and tracks with Toro Adventure. This was my first proper full ride of this amazing machine prior to me buying my own BMW R1250GS 2020 HP.
Find out what the tractor is like on and offroad and how I fell in love.

Best way to buy them is when they are secondhand. I never buy new. I had a R1200RS and was scouring all the BMW dealers via the Motoradd site and found an absolute gem. So I now own a BMW R1250 GS Rallye that came with, Full expandable luggage, Ackrapovic exhaust, Front Fog lamps, Lowered chassis and seat. It was 6 months old so has 30 months warranty left full service history for a fraction of the cost new and I love it. I totally agree with you also the power delivery is night and day compared with the 1200, it has instant power everywhere, that shiftcam is astonishing the power is instant. It makes the 1200 feel really sluggish. I have definitely found my match with this bike. One BMW salesman said to me once you have owned one you will keep coming back for another one all the time. I agree it is a bug and I love it, roll on the 1300 GS !!!

Great Video. I was Deployed from West Germany in 81 with a U S Air Force Mobile Combat Communications Group to Spain. It was when a Spanish Military General was committing a Coup against the Spanish Government. We were sent to help the Loyal Military Forces. We were down in Almeria Spain. It was Beautiful there. We got to see a Lot of the Country. I have always wanted to go back. I would Love to Tour it on my 1200 GS.👍❤️

I've never tried the 1200 gs, but I did try the 1250 gsa this summer and I ended up ordering one. I love the bike so much, an absolute peach to ride, biggest standout feature for me is the amazingly strong brakes and suspension, and just overall how the bike handles.

Coming from a sportbike background, and having club road raced for 3 seasons. Always been a fan of 1000cc sport bikes. At the age of 53 brought a Ducati Multistrada Enduro in 2017. Great all round bike, but always felt a little top heavy. May 2020 and an 85 year old car driver decides to kill it! Went shopping for a replacement and the white with red and blue decals HP model just looked so good I brought a fully loaded non adventure version. Hate to say it, in my 56 years of riding motorcycles this is the best all round motorcycle I have ever owned. Not the best motorcycle, but best do it all, have a shit smiling grin on your face fun ride. Even does a good wheelie! Brakes and handling are pretty damn perfect. I was one of those don't give me any electronics type riders. Now I'm like, heated grip, hill start control, switchable riders modes, let's have them all. Still think Ducati has the better traction and wheelie controls, but the BMW is pretty darn perfect too. Can't wait for BMW to bring out a 1300HP enduro model. Enjoy what you ride, and ride what you enjoy. Merry Christmas all from an Ex-pat UK biker living in Winston Salem N.C. an amazing place to live and ride bikes.

I did a 4 day off-road trip with a bunch of GS owners (1200 and 1250). I own an old 1st gen V-Strom 650. At almost every stop or break we took, this was all I heard from them talking: "that service cost me this much", "a clutch replacement is expensive, need to split the bike in half to do it", "regular service cost me even more this much", and more $$$ complaining. Needless to say I tackled the same terrain they did, and when things got sticky or slippery, proper tires counted more than anything else. Don't fall for expensive luxurious money pits, ladies and gentlemen, unless you know very well what you are getting yourself into.

In my opinion you can't own many of these expensive bikes unless you've got a warranty, which aren't cheap either if your buying one when the manufacturers warranty has expired.

The GS is an easy to maintain yourself bike. Clutch is a different story but well, every 80-120k kms, that aint that big of a deal either. But yeah, when the list price is expensive, expect maintenance to be similarly expensive vs other bikes.
@juacartav3363
@juacartav3363 Жыл бұрын
@@joost1183 In the 2013 air/water cooled engine, the clutch was changed to a wet multiple plate system, located in the front of the engine, making it a lot easier and cheaper to service and better performing too. You have to split the frame on the middle on 2012 and older models to change the clutch.

When I had my GSA I thought this is the best allrounder ever. After having taken it through off road in the alps and other off road trips, I really didn't think that anymore. It is a great bike, don't take me wrong, but depends what you do with it and I didn't want to suffer that much lifting it when down in off road. So I tried a mid-size trail and despite I lost some ponies, I am having so much fun. So I sold the big GSA and bought me the Tiger Rally 900. I just can't wait to take it off pavement.Another point is that I wanted a 21" front wheel as well.

Nice film Bruce, almost a drone disaster, nice save. I bought the r1250gsa after listening to you and having test ride all of its rivals. Great bike. Also been off road on a couple of green lanes, not too far just 12 miles or so and it was good fun, would be better on non all road tyres which it came with. Also really well built having already throwing it down grass banking after my own pheasant encounter at 60 mph. After market risers were shit and pheasant hit the handlebars which came off in my hands. My arse was proper puckered I can tell you. However myself and the bike survived. Bike needed new lower engine bar, handle bars, front mud guard and a good clean. Looks great again now 😊😊

Probably the Euroregs and the later esa had something to do with it but as you say the 1250 is night and day better the engine is smoother as is the gearbox, GSAP and even the hill hold is better. Just a great all rounder that's hard to beat if you can only have 1 bike. Shame about the stigma it has given mostly I guess by people who have never ridden one. not a chance. The r75/5 of the 70s is the greatest given it's achievements. Followed by the 100PD. I only wish I had enough time to say why. Look at the history of those bikes travelling round the world and what the Australian state based BMW clubs did with the /5 is nothing short of amazing, riding into the interior. The big GS and the big ATs and Teneres are making way for the smaller lighter bikes. Big GSs and similar are really for prepared roads and motorways but they are brilliant at it. Come on... you talk like the 1200 doesn’t have enough power nor enough torque ... I have driven an Hayabusa, a GSXR1000 on track and the R1200GS has more than enough power to make the driver smile !! but disagreements apart, this is a very nice video (and loved the commentary of driving hard before the authorities “wake up” ) 😂

It's already 3 years that I'm riding in the mountains with my friend during summer holidays. He's riding a GS, I'm riding a VFR800F. This year, he was riding his brand new 2020 1250GS, the years before that he had been riding a 2017 1200GS. This year, when he was overtaking, I haven't noticed any difference in his acceleration. Bluntly stated : he didn't out-accelerate me this year, just like he didn't the years before... I could still follow him on my 2015 VFR800F. So I guess the acceleration of the 1250 over the 1200 isn't as spectacular as you make it appear.

i have owned the GS, GSA and loved them both great bikes! BUTTTT now own the Ktm 1290 and on and off-road and by off-road i don’t mean dirt roads! KTM hands down a far better bike and it is impressive on road also. Would never switch back. test road the 1250 great bike and improvement but still doesn’t compare to the 1290

Currently own a 2012 R1200GS and a KTM 690 that I use for adventure riding. The GS is a great traveler and does OK for intermediate off-road. The 690 lighter and easier to handle but definitely limited for travel. I think the new middleweights make more sense for me as they have a good balance of each. Great video and what incredible scenery and routes!

I have the 2020 GSA version of that bike. I understand now why people love them, they just do everything so well and here in Australia, I do it without range anxiety thanks to that 30 liter tank. 👍 The price is of course ludicrous, I could have bought a nice little car with aircon and all of the other extras for the same money but . . . BIKE !

BEST bike ever on and off road. Clearly a subjective opinion of course but I suspect many would acknowledge that the huge litre-plus machines are deeply intimidating off-road options for most riders although there is of course no doubt whatsoever of their mile-munching superiority on the blacktop. If the accolade "BEST" is to apply meaningfully in this extremely competitive and demanding category then the choice is between a Yamaha T7 or of course the KTM 790 Adv R. Both have more than sufficient grunt to cope with long highway stretches (assuming appropriate screen modifications/upgrades) and both have very strong, practical and (importantly) accessible off-road credentials. T7 tips it in terms of lower impact on the wallet whereas the 790 is the emperor of tech. The 1250 and the 1290 are however literally the Range Rovers of the bike world. There's probably nothing to seriously compare in terms of cross continental travel on all terrains in such supreme comfort.
