Is the Canon R10 the Best Entry-Level Camera?

I bought an R10 as a beginner when it came out. I switched to a second hand Sony A7 III at relatively high cost due to the lens situation and I've already saved more on lenses than it cost to switch. Maybe in a few years when 3rd party lens lineups and the 2nd hand market have had time to flesh out. Also, Canon's product stack is very obviously stripped down to push people to more expensive options. Its a shame because my family has literal generations of Canon brand loyalty but that's what you get when you put your shareholders first.

Hey! Thank you so much for this review, it was really helpful. I'm planning to shoot more dynamic stuff for my KZbin channel. Which budget-friendly lens (or not) would you recommend for getting a nice wide shot when vlogging or not doing talking head style videos? I'm thinking specifically of how to combat that crop with the stabilization setting turned on. Thanks again!

you're the 1st person to see duin studio shoot with the Canon R10 and after watching this I'm quite impressed with the results despite it being underated

Even that Nikon full frame ZF does not have a spring on the battery door. That’s a 2k camera.

Where do u put the R50? Seems to close to the r10 and much cheaper.

yes, I'd put R50 at total beginner, amateur market. R10 is just a touch better overall in my opinion

Only interested in 16:9 1080p 30fps recording, so kinds swxs you glossed over literally the only thing that matters to a KZbinr. One big negative seems it's not supported by the Magic Lantern project. Which means whatever crippled firmware Canon is on there is what you get.

I'm a full time KZbinr and 16:9 1080p 30fps has never mattered to me. Why is that important to you?

@@PavSZ All my KZbin videos are shot in 1080p 30fps. Most desktop computer monitors are 1080p. Literally, on a smart phone, nobody is even going to watch anything at a setting higher than 360p. Why? Cellular data costs $$$, and is going to choke on buffering higher resolutions over wifi.

@@choppergirl I record everything in 4k but edit in 1080p but export in 4k YT likes 4k uploads, they are less compressed than 1080p ones. Also YT serves users on smart phones lower quality so people do not waste data.

@@PavSZ My 16 core 32 thread Ryzen 7950x would choke on 4k footage because I stack clip on top of clip on top of clip. I'd need a 5,000 dollar Eypc CPU to edit in 4K and get no benefit from it all, and eat up harddrive space like you wouldn't believe. Nobody watches anything in 4K. Nobody on my block including me has a 2.5K or 4K monitor or TV (and I've got 150 computers in the barn going back to the 1970s... this is tech central). Even on the desktop with three 1080p monitors, I don't watch YT videos in 1080p... usually in 144p to 360p. Comcast limits your bandwidth to 1.2 terabytes a month, and with 5 people on my wide area network, we barely come under the limit every month. While I was blind for 5 years, I watched everything in 144p the absolute lowest YT bandwidth. The sound track carries most of the content information people are listening to. If you're going to splurge on excess bitrates, put it there, not in higher video resolutions or frame rates. Try it sometimes... click on a talking head video, or anything else, and go walk away and sit on the couch to listen to it from across the room. You still get almost entirely what the video is about. Only if there are screenshots or diagrams on the video do you really need to see what's going on. Hard to say as a video editor, but true. The video portion of a video is the least valuable.
