I remember getting a cloth map in one of the Might and Magic PC games... those would be a plus... or laminated maps that you can use dry erase markers on 0-0

Good review…I would have thought it would have at least come with some Cypher Shorts.

On the players' side, Cypher System is certainly beginner friendly, It's a logical stream-lined system that is fairly easy to learn. For the DM however, it really depends. With the players making all the rolls, saving plot and party becomes far more difficult for the DM than it is in systems where the DM can simply fudge some rolls. Also player intrusions give players influence on the world that they wouldn't have in other systems, which may be difficult to manage for newer DMs. It's certainly great for DMs to create their own world, as it is truely a universal system that works in any genre and even in genre mixes. I'd say it's one of the best systems as long as long as your world has more sand boxes than rail roads.

Oh, that's a really good point about it being better suited to sandbox than games on rails!

Cypher System looks really well designed, and Monte Cook games has some great worlds to play in. I really want to try out Numenera, Old Gods of Appalachia and Ptolus. Don't have anyone local that really plays, let alone in CS, but may try to find a game online at startplaying or something.

I've played a game of Numenera at a convention, liked the setting with the little bit we got in that game. Really want to play Old Gods of Appalachia! Ryan listened to the podcast and has been wanting to run a supernatural game in Appalachia for years

I’ve been running Numenera for a year or so and LOVE it. I also just started a super hero lunch group using Cypher and ran a couple of fantasy streams with Cypher. It’s a really nice system to run.

I own just about every book in PDF, and honestly, as a GM, I find it all overwhelming. I would love to see more how-to videos for GMs. Something that walks though setting up a game. I just feel overwhelmed by all the options.

Nice review. But... :) It would have been nice to show some mechanics. I still don't know What the Cypher system IS. :)

Fair, we got into mechanics in our full review of Cypher System so I hadn't thought of rehashing that in this video as well for beginners. Here's the full review kzbin.info/www/bejne/pl6ofnqiasloeM0

Cypher system is so nice to run. Completely unloads the game master and keeps the players active. RE: modern non magic use subtle cyphers. They work really well. The card dexk for these makes them easy to use.
