I gotta say, this man is smart in his marketing. He's not only putting himself out onto every channel and place he can to talk about his Kickstarter and project, but he's openly been showing a LOT of the gameplay and offered the alpha up for free for people to check out. He's been candid, and clearly very passionate. I've seen more of Alan in the past week, and heard more about his upcoming game system than I have seen of 5e's upcoming revision (or whatever they're calling it) in the last few YEARS. I honestly wish him and the game success. I really do. It won't 'kill' D&D. I don't think any other upcoming system out there could ever accomplish that. But it will offer an alternative driven by a passion and creativity rather than 'investor shares going up'.

Respectfully disagree! D&D was originally built on passion and heart, with a very small team, over a long period of time. WOTC seems to have less of those ingredients these days, and Coach has that in spades. He also has a ton of backing from most of the largest names on KZbin, and all combined those folks have tons of influence on DMs, who ultimately will convert because it truly is a better system. There's lots of other reasons, but it would not surprise me at all if DC20 ends up rivaling D&D someday!

@@elijahmorrissey6939 The problem with a "killing" DnD is that most DMs have problems converting players to other systems. The explosion of new original TTRPGs is already happening, but most players don't even care, they don't want to buy new books and spend time to learn new systems.

I think only wotc/hasbro can kill dnd but it seems they are doing their best to accomplish that. Community releasing other systems that do laps around them in terms of innovation certainly helps.

For translating languages you may also run in to problems with Dialects. For Spanish talking to people in Mexico is different and Spanish from Puerto Rico or other areas.

He mentioned in a live stream that he already has a team of volunteers working on VTT integration (especially Foundry). But also that with the Kickstarter doing so well, he might have the funds to pay them and therefore potentially speed up the whole process.

only a system with simplicity will be able to truly rise as the successor to dnd. DC20 is not that system. most of the rules will be filled in with those from an individual tables prior system to make up for the gaps or otherwise pore performance of this system. Far as I can tell so far its a flavor game with lose rules that will almost never really matter. great for power gamers who are more interested in writing a novel than actually telling a cooperative story. Perhaps it could replace pathfinder for those who like that. as for 5e I think it will stick around for a better alternative.

No, it's not the next D&D killer. It's just the latest product that's been artificially pushed by the D&D youtube cabal, which includes yourself, Professor Dungeon Master, Bob the World Builder, Roll for Combat, Nerd Immersion, Dungeon Dudes, Ginni, and many others. It's just a human centipede of marketing by you all where one person releases some mid product and then you all heavily promote and push it so their Scamstarter can get gross amounts of funding. You all happily fall in line and take your spot in the centipede so that when your product is set to hit Scamstarter, you can count on the cabal to "scratch your back". Nothing about this is real, organic, or opaque. The motives are as transparent as a freshly cleaned window.

I'm currently playing Shadowrun 3e and reading The Witcher ttrpg. Both have a magic that potentially can causes stun damage. I was thinking for DC20, should Martial stamina and spell casters Mana points actually be the same resource?

DC20 is so much more than I'd hoped for. I got such a surprisingly apathetic response from my group to Alkander's, so I was so nervous to introduce them to DC20. Death's Door and Spell Duel won them over and now all of them are reading the alpha. We'd been talking about departing 5e for pf2, but I'm pulling for DC20 next.

@@astranger934 depends on your litmus. DC20 has a lot of freedom attached, seems to speed up combat action and increase excitement. Has unique features like Death's Door, spell dueling, combination spellcasting. The math is simpler and puts the emphasis back on the game. And I'd remind you the team Alan has is small, just like the team that made D&D 1e. And they have the benefit of decades of other systems and experiences to stand on, so I don't really get that point.

I have 8 14th-level players in my game, and am using a version of these rules adapted for 5e. I just made it so my monsters don't roll for Initiative. Instead, all their actions are like Legendary Actions. They can just cut in after any player action or reaction. The enemies feel more threatening, they do more, and I don't have to use 10 enemies to make it feel challenging. I'm not exploiting this, because I could obviously make this overpowered. But my players trust me to make it hard while still being fun.

Thank you. Great interview. Ever consider having the skill challenge consequences set different outcomes for a combat set-up? Like, in the city attack skill challenge, each round of skill checks would have pass and fail conditions which would effect the final combat to save the city. (Maybe you’ll fight 3 ogres which climbed over the walls, or maybe you killed them, but how they beat the ogres let a set of flying enemies in… Will you fight in a ruined bombed out city or in the halls of the capital?)
