Airframes are usually warmer than the ambient temperature (friction, compression, etc.) so if you increase the Contrast of the IR image by cooling the seeker down, it becomes possible to track not just the exhaust, but the airframe itself. However those AW Missiles are easily seduced by flares.

No it doesn't. Its sole purpose was strike aircraft with basically having only what is needed to complete the job. It even lacks radar so it can remain "quiet". F117 will never be effective vehicle in war thunder. We don't have night maps and maps in general are not big enough for you to use it effectively. Its slow and without countermeasures.

Stealth just means reduced radar signature. well although the F117 is indeed stealth there was a case in serbia where a nighthawk has shot down because its bomb bay was open and the radar scan picked up this brief moment when the pilot opens the bomb bay to drop the bomb so uh maybe thats whats happening there because you open the bomb bay for a pretty long time while scanning for enemies

The biggest problem is determining what the game considers ‘directly’. If for example being 10-20 degrees below the frontal plane negates the stealth in game then it’s effectively useless against SAMs.

I mean, no? But even IF it was very hard to lock with IR and find with radar, it still only has 2 bombs and no chance if a fighter is in the air. A roland can still shoot you down just fine, just cant find you on the radar. And optical lock should also still work. Not to mention that unless it goes down in BR, 10.0 has no lineup, and 10.3-10.7 has better options for USA. And it will take 3 months to get if you get max squad research combined with the fact that spading it will be awful. Sure its a cool plane, but it wont be very usefull unless it goes down in BR to maybe 9.3 to 9.7. Gotta remember that the A4E is 9.3 and has 2x TV guided bombs + 3x bullpups, has guns, flares, option to carry missiles too and about the same speed.

F-117 is not so stealth without support jammer plane (AWACS). Look up serbia shooting down one f-117 and damaging other just because AWACS was not up that day, opening bomb bay gave them radar lock on some old soviet 1960s AA missile. Super interesting read in to why and how.
