IS THE GOLDWING A GREAT TRANSITION FROM SPORTS BIKES?

I think the classification that most riders would agree is: Supersport/race-replica Sportbike Sport-touring Bagger/cruiser As you move downward, the creature comforts increase while the trackability decreases. It's my observation that once you get into the heavier sport-touring and bagger motorcycles, they just cannot safely get around even a beginner trackday. Even very skilled riders will wobble quite a bit, ground out on lean angles, and roast tires. And not be going any faster than, say, a Ninja 400. Make no mistake; those lighter sport-tourers are wicked fast on a track but once you get above, say, 500 pounds then a weight and cornering clearance of the bike dramatically reduces the capability and ease of the bike. I know we have "battle of the baggers" and all that, but those bikes cost $80,000 to build, weigh 600 pounds, and still wouldn't outrun a Ninja 650 over 30 minutes. My idea of a sportbike is something that does 99% commuting and fun rides, and then maybe 1% trackday, but it can all of those relatively cheaply and easily. Some of those sportbikes and all the sport-touring bikes have incredibly cheap full-coverage insurance which is a pretty good indication as to who is buying them. Is a GoldWing a transitional bike away from sportbikes? I would say, of course not, because you cannot safely do the things you were doing on your sportbike, but if all you were doing on your sportbike was cruising in a straight line or (cringe) highway pulls then yes it can work as a transitional bike.

I came from a Ducati Diavel and wanted a touring bike because I was becoming a lunatic on that Ducati. I test drove a slightly used BMW K1600b and that engine and quick shifter had me hooked. It also had a Remus exhaust which sounded like a BMW M3 . But i initially wanted a Goldwing. Who knows maybe in a year or 2 I'll give the Goldwing a try

I rode that Diavel. Love it but felt the heat from it on a 90+degree day. Love that BMW K1600 also. That Remus exhaust with the different baffle sounds is incredible. The Goldwing is it for me. Might be looking into the BT flash. Thanks for watching and ride safe.

I like practicing my stops in second gear. Then I shift into first and swerve and zoom away. My scariest times are when I stop, and I sorry the person behind won’t stop and I get sandwiched

The practice I was taught is to shift down into 1rst gear before stopping. Always be prepared to zoom away if the vehicle behind you doesn’t stop. So I always practice escaping.
