There have been a few remakes of Wes Craven's films over the years. Some better than others. Hill Have Eyes is considered to be the best of them. The question in today's episode is "Is it better than the original?" Crystal and @OnceOverwithCayley join me to answer this.

LMAO at Crystal and Cayley’s reactions to Tony’s admission of the $100 lapdance. 😂😂😂😂 Also…agree. Love the OG Hills Have Eyes, but the remake ups the ante and is a better made film. It takes the ideas of the original and expands on it, but also benefits from having a budget and better actors - kinda like the remake of The Crazies.

Can I ask is Tony familiar with the historical urban legend that inspired this film, Scottish marauders the Sawney Bean clan who hid in caves, attacked travellers and partake on cannibalism, one person escape told of this to King James the 6th, and an crusade was taken capturing the cannibals and torturing them. Wes Craven revealed this research inspired Hills Have Eyes, how even the civilized normal people can be pushed to acts of barbaric heathenism.

Read the graphic novel The Hills Have Eyes: The Beginning. it's a prequel to both the first and second movies. It's really good. Very dark and violent and you feel more pity for the mutants in it and that's all I'm going to say.

Lived in southern Utah when I saw this in the theater, and being familiar with "The Downwinders" gave this an extra element of realism (however unlikely) that made the film that much more creepy.

Did Tony hear that during the 90's HBO were trying to make Hills Have Eyes 3, it ending up being retooled and became the 1995 HBO Horror TV movie "MindRipper/ also titled Out Post" in other teritories, it stars Lance Henriksen and Giovanna Ribisi, instead of cannibalistic hill people or mutants the monster of the film is an man whos found at the bottom of a cliff in the desert, there unaware he attempted suicide so they experimented on him to save him only for it to go horribly wrong, he's codename Thor and he's compelled drain fluids from human brains. They class the TV movie as Hills Have Eyes 3 but it isn't really. Thought I'd share that trivia.

Has Tony seen the infamous Hills Have Eyes Part 2, the sequel to the original released in 1985, it's not very good and Wes Craven had a horrible time making it disowning the film, it has music from the Friday the 13th composer Harry Manfredini, actor Kevin Blair who played Nick in Friday the 13th Part 7 has a role, and RoboCop 2's Willard E. Pugh who played Mayor Kuzak is in it as well, funnily there apart of the film where the dog Beast has a flashback t the first Hills Have Eyes.Doubt it's worth covering in a video, Tony may prefer the 2007 Sequel to the Remake.

The term the hills have eyes refers to people living in the hills keeping eyes open for trespassers got the remake of the hills have eyes 1 and 2 first film is good the sequel not as good have seen bits of the original hills have eyes seems hard to get on dvd blu ray there are changes with the first movie cannibals in the and in the remake they were mutated people i think this movie was one of the earliest examples similar to being in dense forest cell/mobile phones lose signal on them which in reality cell/mobile coverage you will be covered unless you are out of range which is what would be the case for the family in hills have eyes love your guests both are amazing around 3 minutes The photos of mutations that play during the opening credits are not of atomic mutation, but birth defects caused by the use of Agent Orange in Vietnam.

There’s a lot that I really love about Aja’s film, Craven’s original to me is more interesting. It really drives home the juxtaposition of two really different families, both of which have their own distinct family dynamics and values. I love the original’s ending because although despite the fact that our protagonists win in the end, it’s not a happy ending. The original really hints at the “civilized “ family having lost their humanity in their effort to survive. Both are great, but for me the original hits so much harder.

I actually saw the remake in the theater before the original off Netflix, and literally the only thing I enjoyed in it (legit CHEERED at) so it would be all that I would want to see again if it was on TV, was Beast. When I saw the original and its sequel, though, I actually enjoyed everything AROUND Beast, who was still the BEST part, especially his reintroduction in Part 2. The way the heroes and the villains are, the grainy realness, the natural energy and charm, and of course Ruby's story. They made me WANT to watch them so much that I had to OWN them, even though Beast is still my main reason for watching;) It was the same with the original and remake of 'The Last House on the Left'...
