Is the Holzfforma G444 Stihl Clone Worth The Money?

Have you seen the cheap chainsaws on Amazon and wondered if they are worth the money? Well I purchased a Holzfforma from FarmerTech’s website on Amazon to try it out. The G444 is a clone of the Stihl MS440. It is a 71cc saw and it came with a 25” bar and chain for $265. I noticed that the bar and chain looked very well built and the saw seems to be the same. After putting it together, it fired up with only 6 pulls. I have run about 4 tanks of gas through it and I have been pleasantly surprised. The saw cranks and runs like it should. All Stihl parts for the MS440 are interchangeable. You can buy 4 of these saws for the cost of one Stihl. With that being said, there is nothing like a Stihl saw and I will continue to support them in the future. BTW, Charlie the goat loves hanging out with me until I fire up a saw. Thanks for watching.

Notice you got the full wrap handle, let me know how you like it. Saw looks to have some torque, but does seem to be turned down a bit. Also I would recheck torque on all the fasteners. The bigger cc saws are fun.

@@jamesmullens1924 I’ll actually check all that today. The rain has set in and it’s a good day for saw maintenance.

Hey,man! I just found your channel and subscribed. I'm in Atlanta with a new to me '22 300L and just spent the weekend riding the BDRx between Suches and Ellijay. We camped in the middle of them and rode to each town and back each day. My riding buddy is 100 miles south of me and can't get up to North GA as often as I'd like. I've watched a few videos of you and Doug already and you guys are going on some amazing roads. If you wouldn't be opposed to having a third wheel sometime let me know. As far as the saw work the main thing I always keep in mind is that the brake isn't going to save you if it doesn't get actuated. Straight left arm is what they say. Chaps are kinda like dressing for the slide and not the ride. Cutting with the tip and making plunge cuts is definitely VERY dangerous, but setting yourself up to be saved by the brake is about all you can do when danger is the road you must travel. With that said I fully agree that I'm still in one piece only by the grace of God.

@@BlueBug-s9l that’s awesome. I hope you are enjoying it as much as I do mine. Doug is about 20 minutes from me but we are both an hour east of Clayton. So much good riding in North Georgia. I will hit you up if we can get something planned or if Doug can’t go. He is my only friend that rides. Most of the time it’s spur of the moment because of his business. I was talking to my Dad today about the saw and using it on KZbin. People reach out and make suggestions and I appreciate them. I really try to be safe when I am using it and I try new techniques all the time. I guess I have developed a good feel for what the saw is doing over the 35 years of using it. My son has picked it up and it is terrifying to watch him and hope he doesn’t pick up my bad habits. Trying to find us a class to go to for his sake. Thanks for watching and subscribing.

As for the G444 it was pretty impressive as far a power went. But speaking as a factory trained Gold Stihl Tech and former Stihl dealer, your saw technique is... terrifying. Please don't take this the wrong way but I'd rather keep watching new stuff from Doing Stuff Seeing Stuff than watching reruns of Did Stuff Saw Stuff (no pun intended). Again don't take this the wrong way but you need some chaps, don't drop start a saw, especially with the brake off at half choke (always crank a saw with the brake on). And be damn careful when using the tip of a bar to cut with. Like I said I'd rather watch new stuff from you than watching reruns. I really hope I didn't piss you off with this. Anyway have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

No worries, I appreciate the comment. I have been running a saw and cutting fire wood since I was 16 and never had any training other than learning from my mistakes. By the grace of God I am still in one piece. I actually put my name on the list for the Clemson University sawyer class that they offered to volunteers who help with clean up in the experimental forest. One of my sons enjoys cutting wood and it is terrifing to watch him. I am trying to get training for him as well. I thought it would be good to do together. Thanks for watching and have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year as well.
