Riding mine around Salt Lake City hilly & mountainous terrain I average 154mpg with side stand, luggage rack, saddle bag frames with Chase Harper saddle bag. This bike is very stable at any speed but the engine likes 45mph for its happiest pace. I have ridden up to 60 but it is not smiling at that speed. Make her last. Super Cubs have never been scooters. Full size wheels, a frame mounted (as opposed to swingarm) engine, and a transmission with gears. It's a motorcycle. Always has been. and 60mph and a 100+mile range is plenty to do distance. And it's comfortable enough too. That said, I like the rest of the review!
@SirNarax Жыл бұрын
You are right but none of those things have anything to do with it not being a scooter. A scooter is just a lightweight, motorized vehicle with a flat footboard and usually an open frame. The bike has a more open frame but it has pegs. Therefor it is a motorcycle but it has always been a scooter-like motorcycle.
@sergentcolon1 Жыл бұрын
@@SirNarax Honda have always referred to it as a motorcycle and it’s always been listed under their motorcycle line up. Scooters traditionally had small wheels also.
@SirNarax Жыл бұрын
@@sergentcolon1 The definition of a scooter is a 2 (sometimes 3) wheeled vehicle with a flat footboard. In the context of a motorcycle if it has flat footboards it is a scooter. All motorized scooters are motorcycles but not all motorcycles are scooters. My point was that it was very 'scooter like' in intent rather than physical form. If I am not mistaken the correct classification is 'underbore motorcycle'?
@sergentcolon1 Жыл бұрын
@@SirNarax yes it is an underbone motorcycle, but not all scooters have flat floors for instance the Honda PCX and many others have a similar design to underbone motorcycles. Underbone motorcycles usually have larger wheels than scooters but again there are large wheeled scooters like Honda’s Sh125 or the Piagio Medley. The main difference between scooters and underbone motorcycles is that the engine is hung from the frame in an underbone and fixed to the rear wheel on a scooter. Either way both are practical and the Subercub is the most produced motorised vehicle in history though the ridiculous plans to ban ice engined motorcycles 125cc and under will mean they cease to be available new in the U.K. in a few years.

@andrewparry8144 жыл бұрын
Please get your facts right. The Super Cub has always had two clutches. One is the centrifugal clutch which you mention. The other is a conventional clutch (with friction plates). This one is not actuated by a lever on the handlebars. Instead it is actuated by the gear lever. As you press the gear lever you actually disengage the clutch. After selecting the gear the clutch re-engages as you take pressure off the gear lever. It does perhaps give the impression of there not being a clutch. Believe me there is - it is on the parts diagram and, like most clutches, needs adjustment from time to time.

The key is momentum and that is the fun part and the thinking part.

That is the thing, a motorcycle is great. But gearing up to ride is a whole ordeal. Jacket, pants, boots, gloves, letting it warm up... it's a ritual and I love it. But sometimes I want to hop on and go and not worry about it getting dinged or scratched in a parking lot. The motorcycle is my open road long range scout. This super cub would be great for running errands around town or commuting back and forth to work short distances. Grab a helmet and go.

another plus of theL E D lighting is many manufacturers. Did not up grade the charging systems on their bikes to keep up the battery riding full time with the older style headlights in the 1980s I had several Motorcycles that just constantly drained the battery ,luckily one happened to be a Kawasaki that did have a Electric start and a kick start on it so I could usually kick the Bike over to get it running and ride it home to put the battery on a charger FYI the bike ran like crap with a low battery I also had abig Honda that only had a electric starter and was too heavy to get a Push Start on her unless you had several people both bikes were in Factory Specs so the Dealers did nothing to resolve the issue I did actually isolate the headlamp with a switch so I could ride in daylight hours with it off if a Cop pulled me over I just acted like I forgot to turn it on and showed him that it operated as prior to that time we only ran with headlights in the dark I think the law changed in 1980 or 81

Too bad they didn't make the other side panel open up for a little storage.
