My grandpa had 1 of the old school sonar fish finders that showed everything it just took time to look at and decifer it. I remember him telling me about a community that got flooded and buried under this lake we fished and I was amazed that one time they was doing work on the dam and I remember trolling over tomb stones there where he told me about 5 years or before. The pain of change is forgotten when the benefits are reaped but not all get to reap them.

@@geoffhonky4439I feel the same. But I grew up dragging jigs and t rigs. Guess it's easier for me to slow down considering I move most of my lures with my fishing rod. No problem slowing down an 8.5 to 1 reel. But a 6.2 to 1 spinning reel brings in plenty of line. Get too high and you lose so much torque. Thought my first fish on my 8 5 tranx was a monster because it locked up my reel handle. Was barely 4lbs.😂

Hey Matt.....I bought the Revo Rocket spinning reel about 6 months ago and I wanted to get your opinion on this. I totally get all the advantages of being able to pull in line at a much faster pace for various reasons and the ability of being able to catch up to a fish much quicker that may be running towards you once hooked....but I've had a bit of issues with losing fish with this reel once hooked WAY more so than I have in the past with slower speed spinning reels. My question is this, do you think that once a fish is hooked and is pulling a bit.....is that faster pull of the line a negative as far as pulling that hook out of the fishes mouth? Do you recommend a looser than normal drag with this type of faster speed reel?
@MattStefanFishing6 ай бұрын
You need to balance the retrieve with the fighting power of the fish but i don’t believe I’m losing fish with it

Panfishermen are notorious for using slow reels. I use high speed reels for the same reason as you when I'm jig fishing targets. Smart.

I think torque is the reeling power. Higher gear ratio less torque; lower gear ratio more torque. I like lower gear ratios when flipping bc I want to bring that fish in and I want control.

Sense I started buying higher end rods & reels I've only bought Shimano & Diawa gear. Buy I have a abu Garcia revo x that you sent me from a give away a year or more ago. It's been a solid spinning reel, very smooth. I'll have to give the revo rocket a try see how it is with such a high gear ratio. I dot think anyone else is even close to that speed. I can see the advantages under right circumstances.

I purchased one of these newer ones from your of your videos recommendation. It is different from other spinning reels. You can instantly tell its pulling line in much faster. Doesn't mean it is a good/bad thing. It feels heavier than all my standard spinning reel. I do, however, use it 75% of my fishing since I travel a ton and don't have the option to carry a ton of rods with me. ps: the paint job needs to improve a little. Mines peeling/chipping off.. 😞

@S2pidMedia6 ай бұрын
I've got one, and honestly, the craftsmanship isn't very good. I returned mine twice for breakage. The 3rd one still has minor issues, but is still working. I wouldn't recommend kastking, as I've had issues with literally everything I've ever gotten from them. The Abu is much, much better. I haven't had any issues with it.
@keithuitts14996 ай бұрын
@@S2pidMedia I've never had an issue with mine. And yeah I would hope the abu would be better it's $100 dollars more.
@S2pidMedia6 ай бұрын
@@keithuitts1499 my first one had an issue with the brakes, so I returned it immediately. The replacement snapped off at the reel seat when I was fighting a big pike, so they sent me a 3rd one, and the insert in the line eye randomly falls out once in a while. Then I bought the kestrel elite bfs reel because I'd heard nothing but good things about it, and a rod to go with it. The tip snapped on the rod, and the side plate where the handle goes on the reel is coming loose. I have 20 rods and reels of different brands, and only kastking has consistently given me problems. It's too bad because the reels are buttery smooth, and the rod is light and sensitive. It just seems like they aren't on top of their quality control.

I ended up buying one of these for the exact reason you said... when you make a bad cast on a fish when you're livescoping the ability to get that bait back in fast is extremely important. That is an insane IPT. Over a yard per turn is just crazy to think about. Have been slowly gaining more and more Abu Garcia reels to my arsenal, can't wait to get my two new revo5 sx reels in service this spring. Granted they have the standard gear ratios of 6.3 and 7.3 but they will do nicely with my chatterbaits and top waters.
@kevinerbs27786 ай бұрын
Not really insane if you've ever seen any surf fishing done or casting competitions. You want to have the ability pull up a lot of line fast. My surf rod set up is actually small. I have 11' Rockaway SP rod with a Ryobi Rami 4,000 Atoka XP reel. It's got a 6.2 gear ratio & when it was fully spooled with the 328 yards of 15lbs spider wire ultra cast braid. I had measured the IPT at 52". On my longest cast with a 3oz weight & the wind blow against my back I had to turn the crank 126 times to bring it back to me, that's around 180 yards on a single cast.
