It's horrible when you need to disassemble and reassemble the entire phone just to replace a cracked back glass (I mean when you don't have laser machines, and those make a huge mess!) Now both display and back glass swaps are much quicker, I just hope that Apple keeps making their phones more repairable.

@@malfaroangel3896 I mean, most Android phones are hold together with under 15-20 screws and usually you just need 1 or 2 screwdriver bits. Can't say that about iPhones can we? It is simpler to completely reassemble an android phone. You can do a screen swap in under 15 minutes. I do love iPhones, but they were an almost unrepairable mess for years. And now I am happy to see that they are becoming repair-friendly.

Took the long enough to make the back glass repairable. I dont know if anyone noticed how stupid it is that you on previous models had to remove everything to swap out the thing that breaks first.

I think it's the opposite, now you have to remove the display AND the back glass to disconnect the battery. Now repairs will take almost twice as long to be performed safely :(

@@perisanti7571 you clearly don’t know about repairing iPhones with oled displays. You can disconnect and reconnect the screen without disconnecting the battery. It’s bad practice but it can be done. This design solidifies that even more. You don’t need to remove the back to get a screen repair done.

As a phone repair tech here, i dont know how i feel about being able to just unplug the screen flexs without unplugging the battery first, ive seen phones getting fried🤦🏽‍♂️ and to unplug the batter first its doable but just adds an extra step by having to take the back off first! But non the less great work man all this work you do is not easy and expensive! Kudos💪🏽

Honestly I’ve worked on thousands of iPhones and I’ve never seen one shorty out due to not unplugging the battery first. Not saying it doesn’t happen, but I feel they’ve added measures to prevent this from happening.

@@MrNocturnal1 I've definitely seen it happen. Definitely worth disconnecting the battery before anything else. Especially when the device is for a client and most don't have backups lets be honest. Having to open the rear also is a little annoying to do a simple screen replacement but if it means easier rear glass repairs its a good compromise IMO.

@@EduardoSanchez-rb9lt Depends a bit on the design of the curcuits and the pinning/design of the plugs. If you have always a hot line to the display this can happens. When you only power up the components of the display unit if needed, this shouldn`t be a big deal to make a swap with connected battery when the phone is turned off.

Repair tip: If your front camera is been damaged on iPhone x and beyond it will have the same problem when you replace it with another. After changing the front camera module you always have to do update or restore to get the front camera working again.

It is weird that the 14 went back to the iphone 4 in terms of reparability. i am guessing this phone was made with the apple self service repair in mind. This also makes screen and back glass replacement super easy to do. I wonder if we will see the iphone 15 be more repair friendly than the 14 since i was not expecting apple to have the 14 be built like the 4.

I have no experience at all from repairing a phone, but I build a fair amount of computers and mechanical devices, and it seems like apple is starting to take the right step in being more repair/reinstallation friendly with 3rd party shops, they still probably have a ways to go, but this is much better than last year. I've been planning to get a new phone for awhile, had my current one for 6 years, might get a 14 or 14 pro after seeing this.

So the back come off, that’s good, maybe the pros will follow suit next year.. in fact. If there’s a redesign it makes sense for the switch and they are beta testing it now… That’s some phenomenal engineering right there, from the outside the 13 and 14 are identical twins but the inside is 100% different..

This is interesting, i wonder if apple put something in place so the phone is less likely to fry the backlight circuit under power like on the older iphone 6 and before. I never had to disconnect batter for the older phones. In fact the 3gs and before had battery under the logic board and in the 1st gen it was soldered on.

What is the heater you use? My shop uses on of the sorta soft blue heating mat that, at least to me, is super inconsistent. Nevermind I see it now, always looking for better tools since I'm trying to start branching out and going on my own and do microsoldering in addition to more basic repairs.
