I've found that doing the insulation part first is easier. It helps with wire positioning and excess stripped length is more noticeable.

yes definitely for those tiny 1.0mm sh terminals i finally did under my binocular stereo microscope. which made it a lot easier to successfully make a reliable and accurate crimp

I was actually thinking of trying that when shooting this video. 👍

What a coincidence, I was looking at picking up the SN series quick change kit, and this one did come across my radar while I was looking around. I think I'll still go for the kit though, since it means I won't have to go buy another tool or die later if I need to crimp a different kind of connector.

i have the engineer brand that looks almost identical and it's awesome. the head isn't all different thicknesses. I was even able to crimp an old molex type for a customer who had an old 3d printer. If that one is as good then it's a great buy. i had the thick head iwiss before (i gave it away) and only got a good crimp like twice.
@Kadano4 ай бұрын
I had the Iwiss for a while and just bought an Engineer PA-09. The Engineer is much better. First crimp with the Engineer was better than my best crimp ever with the Iwiss. Best buy the Engineer from the start.

IWISS has a crimp tool to crimp in one run with ratchet that works awesome.
@ivan9ef4 ай бұрын
It wouldn’t work for such small connectors. The crimp length is too high.

the version of this specific tool i bought was the engineer pad-02 crimping tool kit. and it has a good quality and construction. however as andreass speiss points out in his pa-09 video these engineer crimps (or similar style) does not make for a perfect crimp. it kindda squashes the terminal a bit too much. if you are just 'going ham on it'. however my biggest pain point is that this manual style is just too slow to use. for when you are doing more than just 1 or 2 terminals at a time. eg and atx 24 pin or other 'wiring loom' or multiple pieces batch job. so this is why recently i ordered the IWISS IWS-3220M ratcheting type crimper tool from amazon usa. however it has not arrived yet. still in transit. but i hope the quality is good. will have to wait and see
@voltlog2 жыл бұрын
I think it's a general weakness of this type of tool, no matter the brand. There is a lot of variation and you have to carefully get the position of the crimp, the pressure you put just right for perfect results.. I'm gonna give the IWISS IWS-3220M a try and let you know the results in a future video.

What size do you use for JST-SH? Still looking for a nice crimp tool for it.

I got that one is very good indeed but later also have the IWISS IWS-3220M that beats that one ratchet just one crimp flawsless it the only ratchet one I use for small terminals

Have a look at the Japanese engineer pa-9 crimpers, struggled with those Chinese crimpers for years, once I got a pair of the Japanese ones the crimp quality improved drastically. Well worth the extra money and still much cheaper then the official molex or JST tools
@JanCiger2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I have the PA-9 too, this Chinese crimper looks like a poor copy of it.

@@JanCiger The IWISS crimper is a very good tool, and can produce equal or better results to the PA-09 - see Andreas' side by side testing of both kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGbUgJWhiLp7pMk

I have not tried the Engineer PA-9 myself but Andreas Spies did a video on those and compared it to the IWISS.. the resulting crimps were not much different which raises the question, why spend the extra money?
@mawoodmain2 жыл бұрын
@@voltlog it's hard to explain, but the Chinese one does not crimp reliably, I think it's because it's too thin so the jaws do not always line up will, but the engineer one is much thicker so this seems not to happen

@@voltlog hardened jaws that will not wear out so quickly, resulting in messed up crimps, for example. And it is not that much more expensive.

I absolutely do need a crimp tool for just this kind of terminal, but this one is not going to work for me. I want a) a ratcheting type that b) crimps both parts in a single action and most importantly c) comes with EDM-cut precision jaws instead of the horrible die cast ones. Sadly, those are not exactly common and there seems to be a lot of questionable claims about how the jaws are produced...
@dreamcat42 жыл бұрын
could not agree more. i am really hoping now that the more premium model IWISS IWS-3220M that i have ordered is going to have more precisely cut dies on it than the one featured in this video. i.e. like my engineer crimper which as you say.... the sharp edm really 'crisp' and of a good quality tool steel. it does not matter to me the brand. so long as the jaws are well machined and of a high quality 👍
@jaro69852 жыл бұрын
Yeah ratcheting is the way to go, not having it is a major downside. For JST PH/XH/VH/Dupont get the TZ-4228B. See discussion on eevblog forum.

@@dreamcat4 Looks like all my comments are getting deleted again - let's see if this gets through. Decided to get an IWS-3220M, had it delivered, it's a nice tool, the jaws are crisp. Does JST XH really nicely, Dupont not so much but then again it's not meant for it...
@dreamcat42 жыл бұрын
@@AttilaAsztalos ok got your msg this time. haha yes i know that feeling (about getting comments deleted because they reference a product or something like that)... yeah the more challenging is the 1.0mm SH, which is what i will be testing the 3220M for maximum difficultly. (but under the microscope with the clicks off). and as i had already mentioned here in my previous comment: the TZ-4228B is supposed to be the one for the Dupont (or other 2.54 ones with the triangle flags on the insulation). So that will come soon enough. that covers the majority of connectors, however for ferrules i am finding that the yellow kit that voltlog recommends works, as it has a die pair that works well to crimp square ferrules. what was it... the JX-1601
@Perplexer13 ай бұрын
You're using it wrong. 1.3 mm position on the jaws is for crimping the smaller connector wings that grab the wire. For crimping the bigger connector wings that grab the insulation, you need to move it to position 1.9 mm.
