For me the justification for a separate dedicated mp3 player is sound quality, which your phone would expect not to be as high a quality.

I think these little gadgets do have their place. I mainly use them to watch movies or listen to music. Especially when I don't want to use my cellphone battery up. Having the web browser will be fun. They are good for kids as well. I would have loved one of these as a kid. Especially for waiting in a doctors office or something.

lately I'm trying to change my life style a bit and give up having a smart phone for a better life experience. I wanna have a simple old style phone that cant connect to wifi, only use my laptop for internet and have separate devices like an mp3 player and a camera for other things. so thanks for this review, this one looks like a great option. i'm curious about wether or not it support spotify though.. i'm not really used to downloading music and i already have tons of playlists on spotify that i would love to still have access to

They are definitely NOT obsolete in my book. I think the MP3/MP4 industry does a "VERY" POOR job in advertisement/promoting this wonderful product. Many people go to gyms, walks or go out for a run, I }}}STRONGLY{{{ believe that storing music in these devices is a serious tasks/challenge for many, like myself. From understanding that streaming music is NOT the same as purchasing a song and (how to) save/download it to the memory card or the chromebook. Affordability AND Dependability AND EASE OF USE, is what's on my mind. Many just find it difficult. I.M.H.O. Thank you.

I was torn between the Timmkoo Q5 and this thing. I currently own an older Timmkoo player and it is really awesome. But this new generation of stuff kinda blows them outta the water. I went with this because I got it for 40 bucks on ebay and got a free carrying case for it. Otherwise I honestly would have went with the Timmkoo because I know they are quality. But this does the same things and has a metal frame. I'm sure both players are neck and neck in performance.

Yea i'm thinking about getting this one as I had a Timmkoo but while they are great players in my situation they broke. So i'm hoping this one is more sturdy..

Great video. A dedicated MP3/MP4 player is not obsolete. For $50.00 you have an inexpensive ebook reader, music, video player and web browser that you can use in situations that you do not want to risk with your expensive phone.

Thx füt he comprehensive review! For me, one of the main reasons to have a dedicated mp3-player are the mechanical buttons: pause/play and skip tracks blindly by touch is essential for me. Does this device support that in any way? If not, could you recommend a device in a similar price range that does?

This device is solely a touch screen so this probably isn't a great option if you need physical buttons.

No dice…would not pair…amazing that none of these MP3 players pair with the Apple Air buds, despite the fact that millions of people use them. I did write to support, but I have no illusions that they will reply. The MiFo ear pieces do pair for anyone that might have those or want to try them. My goal has been to separate my desire to play only my Apple playlist without getting interrupted all the time by Apple’s Music Trial pop up…so frustrating. So a stand-alone MP3 player is the only solution. Don’t buy the SanDisk player…that doesn’t pair either. I would be helpful in these reviews if the reviewer actually covered pairing. No one does…

Personally, I use Note Burner (a program for Windows PC) and I use the older version (2.2.4) because the older version will let you Rip albums that have been "hidden" from Spotify. Let's say I want to download Rhyme Asylum's "State Of Lunacy" well, normally I can't even play it because it's "hidden" from the Spotify App. But with Note Burner 2.2.4, I can rip that album anyway. So long as I have it saved to Favorites and I can drag and drop the Spotify Link into Note Burner, it will Rip that album. Also Note Burner will let you do FLAC or MP3 320kbs. Usually I stick to MP3 at 320kbps. As I personally can't tell the difference. I tested Love Is A Battlefield by Pat Benetar in both FLAC and MP3 320kbps and both files sound exactly the same to me.

Saving songs to your download Cache on your phone isn't the same thing as Downloading files that you can actually transfer. With Note Burner you are making a direct One-To-One Copy of that album that you can transfer to ~any~ device. But one drawback is that you will need a program like Adobe Audition or Cool Edit Pro to be able to Normalize the Audio Files that Note Burner saves, because by default, they all save at 50% Volume. Also sometimes there may be one or two pops in a song and I use the Auto Heal function in Adobe Audition to fix that. I normalize every file to 98% just below the Red Line threshold.

This is not easily compatible with Google play store and is limited to the apps already installed. You'd have to download music and transfer it to the internal storage.

Just got this and really like it but I tried to pair two different Bluetooth wireless earbud sets. I tried an off brand pair of MPOW earbuds and then tried my Samsung earbuds+. This device didn't show the name of either one but showed this: E2:BB:9E:3B:4C. When I pushed on it to try I got a box that said it couldn't pair because of an incorrect PIN or passkey. I'm not sure what's wrong. Of course there isn't anything in the little manual it comes with. I did a factory reset also thinking that might help but it didn't. Any thoughts?

I had to wait a bit for my speaker to show up. Try turning on Bluetooth and make sure the headphones are in pairing mode and not connecting to something else and wait about 30 seconds to see if they show up
