Ah. Makes sense. I realize this is also preliminary info and you were just getting a bench out as quickly as possible. Something I would really like to know about though is HDR grading on the 12.9" iPad Pro and whether or not it's really usable or not for that purpose. With Resolve finally on iPad, this is the most direct and perhaps fastest way to do that kind of work/export.

I’m curious to see if this new partnership with Apple changed their policy on the format. I’m happy to supply ProRes Raw clips, if you don’t have access to any.

I just bought a 6th gen 12.9” M2 iPad Pro with 1TB capacity because of this app coming up. I really needed a larger capacity though 512GB wasn’t enough. I sold my 5th gen for $900 so basically had to spend $1k which wasn’t bad.

share project in cloud. Do ipad stuff that is realistic, then finish on main machine in the scenario you are suggesting. If you have SDI grading monitor why you want ipad in the mix ..? Its not needed. It can feed via bluetooth to an apple display if you calibrate it. This works, but not my idea of why ipad is good

Darren, I saw on your other iPad video you said you have the 11 inch M1 but it has small on board storage. That means it has 8 gb of ram. Is your M2 iPads storage 1 or 2 terabyte? If so it has 16 gb ram. I’d think that would have a large effect on performance. Either way, thanks for all your invaluable videos. And this peek at the beta. I look forward to more videos as I’m learning a lot.

@@stevenhundley8244 , i dont think more memory is going to make much of a difference with ProRes. The M2 has dedicated Engine(s) for media and the M1 does not. This is likely why DR has not released the app yet.

The official announcement says it's *optimised* for the larger iPad pro, that HDR is supported on the M1... It doesn't specifically say that it only runs on the M1&M2 Pros. In any of your communications with Blackmagic, have they said if it would run on say, my 2020 iPad Pro which is the model before the M1?

Really well. Media import in cut page. Attach external drives directly to ipad, cloud projects work flawlessly. Export restricted but send project to desktop version to export to specific formats

The M2 uses the Media Engine configuration, dedicated video decode engine, an encode engine, and ProRes encode and decode engines that's the same as the M1 Pro. Unfortunately, the M1 does not. This still isn't really Pro level in my opinion if its also available on older A-Series iPad's. Maybe, they will actually make a version for the iPad Pro with Fusion but that's probably not wise until more iPad's saturate the market with at least an M2.

BMD has stated that other pages are coming. I expect fairlight will show up. Considering Octane has also come to iPad Pro, I expect that fusion will eventually be added. But it will be interesting exactly to see how it’s implemented. It could very well be “Fusion Light” and not necessarily contain all of the tools found in the desktop version, commensurate with what iPad Pro is capable of doing.

The M1 in the Air is the same as the Pro so I do not see why i wouldn't. They might even make the minimum requirements be at least a A12z.

I have the iPad Pro 12.9” 4th gen (A12Z chip) from 2020. Yes it does work! At least in the free version. It gets a little hot when used for long periods but perfectly serviceable. The speed is not up to a desktop version, but the allowing for the slow down of having fat fingers, it is quite adequate.

Are you going to do a test with things that actually test the hardware? 8k footage test? Depth of field and motion blur? Particle systems? The real stuff.

If that is what you need, then this device isn't for you. The frame buffer in these devices alone isn't enough for 8k, let alone multiple tracks of 8k, which is what would be necessary to actually edit something easily. You could "single track" it all, but that would be a VERY sub-optimal editing experience. Maybe at 50% playback resolution if that's an option. He notes during playback that noise reduction brought both iPads to their knees (single digit performance on both iPads). I would imagine all of "the real stuff" you're referring to would be much worse. And also, some of the effects you're referring to may not be in the beta. And also may not be available at release either. I wouldn't be surprised if DoF isn't available. The entire Fusion page isn't available.

I think the NR was a fair test to stress it. 4K footage is normal. This was to show normal use...not see how quick I could kill it. I think most people would prefer this kind of test. Nice thing, once its released you can test for free yourself.
