Is the Mastercoat primer and AG111 really the best? Restoring the subframe of the Nova.

Back from break! I worked on as many things as I could. First up is the Nova’s subframe. It was dirty, rusty and ugly. Now that the body mounts are all good we had to address the ugly. Luckily the rest of the subframe was solid, a wire wheel was enough to clean her to the point we could lay down some paint. I bought into the internet hype and bought the Mastercoat primer and AG111 top coat combo kit. They claim it’s the best, the internet loves it, so I gave it try. Let’s find out if the hype is real, and if a total “non paint guy” can make this 50 year old frame pretty again.

With the foam roller did the silver level out smooth or is it dimpled...looks level in the video. BUT, im doing a engine bay and fender so really want it to level out. If spray it but its in my garage and this stuff is serious so id rather roll it on. Also, did you ever try to sand it any? How well does it sand? Ill have to sand on it to do some filler in some places, so just wondering if itll be a pita haha.

@@stephenwhite5444 It self levels really well, no roller marks or nothing. If you do spray make sure you have some kind of respirator. I’ve only sanded it lightly with 220 grit to scuff it a little for another coat if I waited longer than the instructions recommended lol but it seemed to sand fine. Good luck with your project!

I’d brush the first coat to get into the nooks and crannies and then spray the second coat for even coverage.

I did consider that. I’d probably do that next time. Would definitely go faster.

Yeah I got lucky, didn’t watch it for too long before it was in stock. Keep an eye on the estimated in stock dates. I know they’ve been shifting because they had material issues or something. But at least give a reference. When I bought it was back sold out within a day though.
