Is the Match Making Really Bad in WOTB?

Skill based matchmaking was tried 6 or so months ago and elite players, who ironically demanded it, ended up hating it because they started losing more. They didn't realise the consequences of bunching better players altogether in a battle. As you say, if it was exact skill base was always together, they would run at 50% win rate. It's mathematically impossible for, say, 65% players to maintain that WR if they only play each other. Beating up weaker players proved more important than a competitive game. So, now the matchmaking is back to its traditional, horrible self. The real issue is unbalanced teams. Nothing wrong with a 40% player at a higher tier if both teams include one. When it's lopsided that one team gets constantly weak players and therefore a long run of losses, that is the grievance. My belief is the preferential modes are the problem. WG admit they exist, specifically to give a good experience in a newly acquired tank, especially that you're not overrun with stock modules. For 10 battles you are always top tier and generally get superior teams. WG also admit the matchmaking is designed so you win some games and lose some games. That's evident where you can be smashed one day and dominate the next. I've logged numerous times of losing 10, 12 and up to 16 times straight, then the next time in that tank I win 16 of 18 or something. Even in the same session, one tank will lose 9 of 11 and everything else combined wins 9 of 11. That makes no sense other than the matchmaking is broken or deliberately rigged. Most of the player base is between 46% and 52%. There's a separate queue for new players too. The simple solution is remove the preferential modes, or at least reduce their duration. Ratings should become the skilled mode. Restrict it to a single tier (perhaps it cycles each week) and ban players without at least 100 battles at that tier and 1000 battles overall. At present, a new player can win a tier 8 tank from a box and go play Ratings. It's ridiculous, and makes the mode worse than regular mode.

The statements that you’re reading from at the beginning of the video are in regards to the Skill-Based Matchmaking that WG implemented over 7 months ago. Their re-assessment came in response to a massive cascade of negative feedback from all content creators and everywhere in their Discord server. They promptly removed the SBMM and returned the previous matchmaking back in place, which is what we currently have. So don’t expect WG to change the matchmaking anytime soon because it’s fine as it is at the moment.

Random matchmaking is good. I get to play and learn from super unicums, and I get to bully nubs. If 183 is removed, tier X mm will be balanced. They removed missiles. They should remove 183 too.

No, for the last 7 months, we have NOT been giving WG data and feedback on the “new” matchmaker. WG already reverted the matchmaker BACK to the original one, and since the last 7 months, the playerbase has been happy. They’re no longer assessing the matchmaking. This video is heavily misinformed.

@FlowersForYourGrave how do you know that though? Just because they SAID its reverted back, does not mean they've completely stopped collecting data. Data is constantly getting collected regarding the mm, and being reviewed. I have spoken to numerous ccs and wg community members in the past and present. Data collection is part of their systems. How else do they see how broken certain tanks are? How else do they know when the mm has not crapped itself. So no it's no misinformation, perhaps I didn't word it properly.
