Let's keep it completely real, shall we? Isn't ultra-orthadoxy extremely oppressive and limiting to the positive growth of humans, with outdated ridiculous and unnecessary hoops to jump through? Are they also not bigoted against "gentiles"? And men/rabbis won't sit next to women (on planes, etc.)? And females are not even considered equals to males? OMG, GROW UP ALREADY! The list could go on. Who are the ones actually not being "fair"? Let's stick to the truth, reality and actuality, shall we? BTW, circumcision is a completely unnecessary process which can sometimes do much harm. Time to let some cultural traditions die if we're honest with ourselves and really care about each other, more than we care about imaginary invisible supernatural beings and draconian traditions. In my humble opinion, I think ALL religions are ridiculous and unnecessary, and have always done much more harm than good. And Zionism is a terrible thing. A good people treats other humans as equals and does not unreasonabley take over land that has already been occupied for centuries, no matter if the ones taking over land are people who lived there first many centuries ago before they decided to leave. And, although I think the Islamic religion is just as harmful as any other religion, I'm more on the side of the oppressed and abused Palestinians. They are subjected to horrible treatment by the Israeli govenrment, and it's called apartheid. And who in their right mind honestly thinks that a fair, reasonable and good god would ever have a "chosen" people, when we should all be considered equally worthy; that's a twisted concept that is just plain WRONG. Try thinking deeply about it all, and think for yourself using your own brain. Just because others don't believe exactly as you do does not make them "bad", hello!

Disclosure: I am an observant Jew, and I am also a student of Rav Katz. Regarding IDF service: In Talmud (Berachot, 64a) "Rabbi Elazar said on behalf of Rabbi Chanina: Torah scholars increase peace in the world ... " I think that's a pretty big contribution! Re: taxes. In Torah, they are called "terumah" and "ma'aser." Taxes are a given, a necessity of civilized communities; they (and the municipal services they fund) are to provide for the safety and wellness of ALL. My HaShem reveal Mashiach soon soon soon, and then this discussion will be moot!

Having/giving all the "options/choices" for your children is the NOT the highest values - being kind and good and spiritual is - Brilliant statement! We are all "programmed" that Western style Democracy is an epitome of human civilization - technologically - YES, morally and spiritually - NO. A balance between Spirituality and civilization is the ultimate goal.

i remember telling an atheist friend of mine that the haredim are learning and davening so that the army is protected. he said: "i don't need your freekin' prayers!" this is the issue. the non-acknowledgement of the role of spirituality in the nation and yes, contributing to that financially.

Agree with most of what Rav Katz says and feel he expressed himself well , except for the last half hour -when the discussion turned to "secular Israelis supporting financially the charidi life style " and questions about the army. Israel is a socialist country so yes the rich subsidize the poor. Perhaps there are relatively more poor charidim...that is slowly changing -forcing that change will probably only slow it. As mentioned but not really gone into yes Yeshiva students( kollels )receive small stipends - if the same people were on unemployment they would recieve more . University students also recieve subsidiaries, theaters and cultural events that charidim would not go to receive funding the numerous charidi/ religious charities that help all like yad sarah etc saves much government and private funds. In short things do even out. Do we all want to look ve in a brutal totally capitalist sociaty Where it's totally dog eat dog? The army was only briefly brought up. But it's a case of the chicken and the egg. Yes there it a percentage of charidim that do do the army. But the Army is not willing to be flexible enough for them to serve and protect their life syle...which is there real problem -the secular want them to serve on their terms. This in turn makes more of the young men (that normally would) join kollels to avoid -defer the draft...and creates this as the cultural preferred norm.

The Haredi take without giving. They are slowly annihilating Israels economy as they try to turn us back to the dark ages. A society run by haredi halacha would be the second most tyrannical and unfree society in the world next only to North Korea.

@barbkinney75763 жыл бұрын
@@anjahorn Who is talking about half-naked people? I'm referring to fully-clothed humans. And I know you have probably grown up looking at such fashion, so you're used to it and it's normal to you. To each their own, live and let live. No one can help what they think or feel. And when I see anyone wearing an ill-fitting hat and curly-locks dangling down, I think it looks odd. You don't. You think other fashions look odd or inappropriate. You can't help it, and neither can I. It's whatever we grew up with and were taught. But as a mature adult, I can reflect on what I was taught to determine if it all makes sense and if it is beneficial or applicable to my current life. As a logical, reasonable, sensible person, I remain skeptical, question everything, keep my mind open to reality, and use my common sense and critical-thinking skills to decide for myself what seems most true and beneficial to me in the here and now. What is good and right to some is not good and right to others. It's a matter of opinion and whether you were intensely indoctrinated since birth. You most likely are not religious by choice, but because you were taught that your way of thinking is the only true way, just like every single other religious person thinks their particular religion is the only correct one. Haha. It's all so ridiculous. Humans are so silly.
