Thank you for mentioning recovery! As a UMC local pastor and former Celebrate Recovery State Rep, I GET to witness this urgency every day! "Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 5:3 Experiencing the discipleship going on in these groups will transform your church because it opens your church to active salvation and transformative grace. In other words, it transforms the status quo into a congregation actively "being" the church. Of course that's just one powerful way, but I appreciate your sharing of your family's involvement in this one!

Great work casting a vision! From a practical standpoint, I don't think the church is going to be in a healthy place to move forward until leadership decides to let go of all the churches that are not aligned. There will be continued strife and slow bleeding in the central conferences and in the annual conferences that set significant exit barriers. Holding onto churches that don't want to be here is ugly business.

In Canada yes I think it is relevant still. It has such a rich history here. From church’s formed by former escaped slaves to Europeans that came on missions to being one of the first church’s to reach out to lgbtq people. Methodists in Canada are an integral part of our society.

What happened to pastors shepherding their congregations? I hear I, I, I….”being seen?” Uh?What about serving instead of talking about “feelings?” This may be a step in the right direction from self centeredness and a lot of pride. People are also tired of the energy devoted to social activism and comprising the truth concerning homosexuality & transgenderism. I remember a pastor lamenting he just wasn’t at a point where he could be gay affirming. Did he ask himself if there was a Godly reason for that? This was back in the 90s. The 80s and 90s was also a time when psychology was infiltrating the church and continues to do so.

We are doing great here in the Philippines. Please GMC s, do not divide or disturb. We are busy fulfilling the Great Commision. No time to talk about same sex marriage. It is not helpful to us theologically and culturally.
