For really trashy areas the 6inch is awesome!!! I was picking buttons and high conductor targets out of a extremely iron trashy area. I haven't had a chance to use my 800 on the river bed but my old Bounty Hunter 505 using the 6 inch coil worked really well for in between the rocks.

I just finished my 4th hunt with the 6” coil - each successively better and I’m sure it (I) will continue to improve in the learning curve. Repeatable is a key word, but if you can nail a repeatable tone, you’ve likely got a good target. And as you demo’ed, this thing is a real nickel nabber. I got a solid 13 yesterday and grabbed a pull tab AND a nickel out the hole. You never hunt it out, especially when you can go back with the small coil. Thanks for highlighting this!

When you dug up that pull tab and you were hoping it was a nickel, I was thinking pull tab. I just was reading Andy's book today and he says if you get a nickel single and you do a 90 degree check and at any point you get an 11 its a pull tab. I test that theory out multiple times today and its pretty dang accurate. But at the same time I'd rather dig trash then miss a war nickel.

The 800 is a awesome detector & the 6" is a great coil! The 11" does pretty good threw fairly trashy areas but you need the 6" in heavy trash. I use this coil a lot. It is great for getting in tight spaces and is a lot less susceptible to electrical interference so the gain can be wound up which compensates for the slight loss of depth. But found it best to use both the 15” and 6”. I have not used the 11” for months. Open fields/beaches I use the 15”. Trashy, rocky or tight spaces I use the 6”.

@MentalMetal5 ай бұрын
Truth be told the 6 inch is more precise because of the small footprint but you have to cover 3 times a much ground thank you would swinging a larger coil. Plus, it feels lighter and makes swinging easer. You lose some depth with those smaller coils. If you are in a high trash park or something similar then these small coils really help. In the end, use what you want and what works for you.

I use Multi-freq. Thats what that machine is made for. I very rarely go down to single freqs unless I'm having issues with the ground conditions. I can't confirm if silver hits harder on single freqs. Each search profile is set up to hit harder on different items. Park is good for coins wile park 2 is better for jewelry. You may try 5 tones vs 50 sometimes that messes people up a bit.

When you noise cancel shouldn’t the coil be held in the air at around waist height?
@MentalMetal4 жыл бұрын
Here is my opinion on that. I would like to have someone prove to me that lifting the coil off the ground makes a big difference during the noise cancel feature. This feature selects the best channel to use based on ground conditions and EMI. If the coil isn't on the ground or slightly off the ground how can the machine determine the ground conditions? So that's my opinion and I'm happy to admit it when I'm wrong and I'm wrong a lot) ;-) Thanks for the question.
@DaveDiggerScotland4 жыл бұрын
@@MentalMetal As far as I’m aware noise the noise cancel is done at waist level to reduce and eliminate EMI from surrounding power cables, mobile phone masts and other EMI emitting sources. By having it off the ground gives it a more effective noise cancel. The ground conditions are dealt with by doing a ground balance over a clean piece of ground. If you refer to Page 39 of the Equinox manual it does say when Noise Cancelling hold the coil above the ground. I feel some folk may mistake noise cancelling for ground balancing. That’s my understanding of it anyway but everyone is different. If we weren’t life would be boring 😀
@MentalMetal4 жыл бұрын
Some would say that you don't need to ground balance the Nox ;-) I personally don't think you do unless you are faced with extreme circumstances. www.detectorprospector.com/forums/topic/6031-equinox-ground-balance/

@@MentalMetal And on the reverse of that some would say you do. I always noise cancel, at waist height, and ground balance my Nox 800. It runs as quiet as a mouse. I liked the video alot thanks. I've always been confused when hunting trashy sites why you bother with iron bias. Minelab all metal can be run low so you don't get ear fatigue, and its great identifying iron . Keeping your sensitivity low will help with the falsing you are getting... Once you get your ear in it 5 or 6 recovery will separate way better than 3, but it takes a couple hundred hours of practice to use to full advantage . Remember you aren't after super depth with the six inch, just separation so its fine running a lower sensitivity and faster recovery. You'll still find masked targets as you search. Have fun man !!!!

@@MentalMetal , I don't know about that, I spent most of my detecting career in the woods and there aren't many places I can't get to with my 11' coil, including under trees. For the very few spots that might apply, 4 trees making a perfect box smaller than 11 ", rarely happens , and the amount of ground the 6 " covers, odds are the 11" will find more goods. The 15" great if you can find virgin ground never before hit and you want to cover ground quick, however those spots are disappearing if not already gone. 11 it is. Would actually like to see Minelab make an 8.5" coil. 6 is just to small, might as well use a pinpointer it can get into spots no coil can using the 6" theory. I go with the best odds of finding stuff, over 400 silver coins, 3 gold coins, countless rings and bling in 8 months detecting time last season. I will be curios to see how many good finds you will get with the 6" this season, to swing the 6 for hours to find 1 merc or 1 LC , when I average 3 silvers everytime I go detecting with the 11, doesn't cut it. Just Limiting your odds of finding stuff. ✌️🙂

I personally think that going down to a 6 inch coil you lose 5 inches of radius on the target, if you round out the 15 inch coil you’ll find that it will be an 11 inch coil , in the gold fields you can’t afford to go to a smaller one that’s my belief and have been successful with bigger coils

Have been thinking about doing a Minelab 6" coil video as well, but mine won't be a good review. The 6" coil is a waste of time, for every 1 good thing you find with the 6" you will miss 3. The 11" will outperform the 15 and 6 inch coils everytime, put that 11" back on go back to the same place , spend the same time and see how many more pennies, nickels and silvers you find, it will be more. My advice save your money, don't buy either! 402 silver coins last year not 1 with the 6 " coil. Had you been using the 11" you probably would have found silver. ATB & HH👍👍

Hey some dont like it and thats cool. I think the 11" is the best coil out of the 3 but the 6" does have its advantages especially in the woods in my opinion. Thanks for yours.

I’ve been a loyal garrett a/t max user for the last few years. My first machine was a garrett groundhog. And now that I’ve got some hours in with my equinox 800, i am learning it. I bought andy sabisch’s book and what a learning tool! The nox 800 has found a bunch of coins that my a/t max quietly passed right over. I will be getting the 6” coil for prospecting the mother load here in California.
