Perfect musical accompaniment! Thank you! This curation has outdone itself. A miracle of trust on the part of global museums. I have seen van Gogh exhibitions through the years. The drawings are exquisite.

Thank you for the comment (especially about the music, SO hard to get right). It is a miracle of trust and sadly, today, the two Sunflower paintings had soup thrown over them by protestors, including the loaned one from Philadelphia. www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c243v5m0r0lo Luckily they were both undamaged but I worry it will stop museums lending works to London. (And I REALLY care about Climate Change too and try to live in a way which shows that).

Thank you so much for fully sharing this show. We won't be visiting from Australia 😢 so we really appreciated your review. We have been fortunate over the years to see Van Gogh's works in the Netherlands and also in major exhibitions (by complete coincidence) when we were in Tokyo once. The number of paintings that we had never seen from all those private and overseas lenders makes this an irreproduceable experience. Even just watching the video was exciting. 10 out of 10 for sure!
@artgalleryexplorer2 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching and commenting. It sounds as if you have feasted on Van Gogh - it must have been cool to see Van Gogh in Tokyo as one of the Sunflowers is.out there and the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam has so many great works. I was surprised that there were not actually more from Amsterdam in this show because it such a repository.
@leonieandrewsart41372 ай бұрын
@artgalleryexplorer while in the Netherlands, we also went to the Kröller-Müller museum at Otterlo, the largest private collections of Van Goghs and generally a fantastic collection overall. Way less crowded than the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. We'll worth the extra travel, we spent the whole day there.

This is a beautiful exhibit. It’s a special treat to see less frequently exhibited works. Thank you for posting this. I saw a Van Gogh exhibit in New York about a year ago. Unfortunately, so many of the attendees were more interested in taking selfies with the paintings than enjoying the experience of viewing them up close. It was a very photo oriented crowd that day, I would guess more tourists than New Yorkers that day. The art patrons in your video don’t seem to be doing that. Maybe The National Gallery has stricter rules about photos than The Met does. I am totally surprised that this is the first Van Gogh exhibit being hosted by The National Gallery. Congratulations to the TNG on 200 years of serving public. I hope the show is a huge success!
@artgalleryexplorerАй бұрын
Thank you for watching and commenting. It is a tricky one with photo's - I will never be critical because when I go to capture the London art scene for the vlog I am one of the guilty parties. I always usually either go to the good exhibitions twice, once without a phone, or go round it twice! One thing I would say is that for an exhibition like this, capturing a work you are moved by on a phone camera is seen as fine but selfie's would be seen as a big no in London. For contemporary, 'Instagram art' people do but it would be bad form, I think, to pose in front of a Van Gogh. I am hoping to get out to the Met in the next couple of years - what a wonderful, wonderful gallery. Lucky you for having access.

I'm no expert, but is seems to me that Von Gogh's works are extraordinarily alive because his background strokes are paintings of energy: natural or forces as he--a spiritually sensitive person, felt them and then portrayed these energies as shapes and colors.
@artgalleryexplorer2 ай бұрын
Definitely - those background stokes palpably move when you are up against a work with your own eyes. My favourite ever Van Gogh series was not in this show but came even later in the Wheat field paintings around Auvers - these do exactly what you say.

@artgalleryexplorer I appreciate the comment and your post. We plan to be there over Christmas. We were just in Arles and St. Remy over the summer. Since my 20s, I've had this spiritual connection with Vincent that I now understand I'm not alone. He belongs to so many, he belongs to the ages; as human beings struggle these days around the globe, it's a small window of hope to see people open their hearts and take a moment to love this one life's work. I suspect one day there will be a proper exposé not just of Vincent and Theo, but also Jo VG Bonger. Anyway, thanks for your excited video and kind reply.

A privilege to see the exhibit in person; but, Van Gogh's work has been reproduced ad nauseum--calendars, notebooks, prints, plates, napkins, t-shirts, etc, etc: thus, in many ways, its magic has been destroyed.

He is definitely over reproduced commercially (don't get me started on the immersive experiences!) BUT, unlike some artists I can mention, not over exposed in London in terms of original works so it was a treat.
