If I remember correctly, on the green Troopy, you had the rear axle track correction done. This one doesn’t have the same mod done if I’m correct. What are your thoughts about this very picky question?

Andrew, have you ever seriously considered a 300 series Toyota 4WD Hiace? Australian 4wd conversion ( with a pop top etc) would be interesting to compare to the troopy.

This is an incredible build. Though I'd go for 5.12kw of power storage @ 24v, a 3000watt inverter and perhaps the smaller 6L boiler too.... Really looking forward to the full breakdown, and happy for you guys to be able to enjoy this build now :-) Hard work pays off

Concerning the roof weight and rooftop tents, I understand the max payload to be a range of 50-100kgs depending on the car model which would be over with 2 adults and a typical tent. Can anyone correct me or shed light on that?

IMO The Dream Tourer is your biggest failure but best learning experience. One of the best things you can take over-landing is 'space'. Keep up the good work. Marty from Perth

The camper was a good idea to try out but it just didn't end up being what it could have been on a bigger vehicle. It was not a great camper and not a great 4x4. I see it as a compromise between the two that didn't do either particularly well. Looks also have a lot to do with how we feel about vehicles and the Troopy is beautiful and the camper was (sorry) pig ugly. I was not at all surprised that the camper was got rid of so quickly. A camper that would really work well needs to go on a truck not a big 4x4.

I guess this is a pre programmed filler video. As they will be travelling for at least 3 weeks on the canning stock route now. I believe I've seen this as well as part of another video. Can't wait of the video off the Canning stock route.

Gwynn gets my vote 110%. Personally Dream Tourer not even in the running if my alternative was the Troopy. I once said on your web that the DT will never be your 'finest hour' - in my book you just cemented my words with this Troopy. Hats off to you Andrew, after all the years you still striving for perfection. Getting closer.

This is what I live about camping and 4wd touring. Every build is different, what works for one doesn’t work for another and we are all on the journey to find our ultimate touring set up. We can all learn from your builds Andrew, you’ve had more then anyone else could ever dream of. If I didn’t have kids I’d have a troopy, but with kids a 79 works best for us, but always improving and changing as we go.

Since I found your Chanel I've learnt a lot and enjoy the travel's. I have a 05 X-Trail a your budget build for converter and battery up grade was well explained and cheap which is exactly what I was looking for the kiss method keep it simple stupid thanks. I've worked many mine sites in WA seriously beautiful country I would often get in trouble working up high and staring of in to the distance seeing for miles blue sky Red Earth white ghost gum trees.

Yes, definitely. The Dream Tourer actually had 500mm longer wheelbase than the Troopy, given a standard 79 is already 200mm longer than a 78.

@@philg2468 hi mate. Ive had a heap of landcruisers as im in the industry. Own a dual cab gxl as they command the best money and are versatile re stock feed etc. but my troopie evokes all the positive vibes Andrews wife mentions in one of the vids 😊

I just watched a KZbin video about the Iveco Daily 4x4 van. Locking center, front and rear, seems like it would be good for you. Have you looked at it. Its not as high as the Iveco truck you drove a few years back.

He's reviewed the Iveco Daily 4x4, but it was the flat bed rather than the van. He was impressed at the time

But surely as a ‘vanlife’ style live in machine, it could be better than the Merc Sprinter - more capable offroad at least. Love it’s ‘earthroamer’ designs too, expensive but impressive.

@@scentybeast9531 Compared to the cost of all the modified Toyota it would be cheap. AS to being top heavy, all that fuel and water low would remove that risk. I don't think a tent on top would be needed. I asked him once about using a G Wagon since the cost would be the same, or maybe less, and he agreed that the cost would be similar. I would still use a Toyota, but he spends so much on these modifications, that trying something else might be reasonable.

I still don't get why people consider the Dream Tourer as a "failure". To me, it's like a Ferrari owner deciding that they fancy a Bentley. Driving the Bentley for a year and then concluding that they prefer Ferraris. It doesn't make the Bentley a bad car. It's just about realising what you want and what you don't want.

to answer the question asked, you haven't built outside a troopy/toyota platform Andrew, to know what is out there, you have kinda been spoiled and trapped into something .. I think eventually you will need to look into a coaster style bus conversion or a 4x4/6x6 light truck build to see what can be done, looking at what you do in a doco style you are looking for more space.. whether it be a self contained caravan/5th wheel, bus conversion or light 4x4 truck ...
