Asphalt 9 new update release date is getting closer and closer, and after checking one of the new features announced within this new update patch notes, along the new update cars and special events, today I've decided to have a deeper look into the new Overclock implications and if it's actually a good and useful feature or something straight up bad. SIDE NOTE: there was a time where I was younger and thus, I wasn't able to spend any money on any games, and I was perfectly fine with it since I tried to enjoy each game as much as I could. Sometimes Gameloft does bring up some content which may not be the very best but in this case and given the circumstances where the overclock is being introduced, i do really think it's better to wait for at least a couple of updates to generate a proper opinion about this feature since, as I understood back when I wasn't able to spend anything on games and I keep understanding nowadays, A9 is not meant to be something 100% free where you can get whatever you want without spending, it's a business, at the end, and that's how things work irl.

The Overclock feature (let's just called OC for short) is a bit similar to Tuning Kit in Asphalt 8. They served the same thing but the OC is limited to some cars, while Tuning Kit is applicable to all cars. Another element that inherited A8 is Slipstream, which inherited Nitro Starter. However, they only applied to cars that on the back to the preceding car.

Overclock can be used to help in your Career. I'm currently stuck in 16 seasons because I either don't have the car or don't have the rank to complete particular races. Overclock allowed me to increase the rank of the Cayman to be able to complete race 7 of the European Season. That unblocked the rest of the season and unlocked the Mercedes Season. So it's a 👍from me. 🙂

I think this overclock feature will only delay that massive amount of buffs and nerfs wave, it is just a matter of time ... This game is almost 6 years old and they have continued adding cars on top of each classes, so the classes now overlap each other by more than a 50-60% ! So, at some point they will do a massive stats change, moving the bottom cars from all classes to a mid or high place in previous class ...

I will agree with you. It's a business. Compared to other games that bombards you with ads, this one is comparatively less intrusive. People who pays will keep the game alive for f2p players as well, although I do hope there will be at least something for f2p players to enjoy, preferrably with lesser grinding.

@@CarsOnGaming Actually that existed recently: Showroom. Honestly, getting to grind a little bit extra cars (to max) apart from those in the legend store feels great. Not all cars are easy to grind there, some are at least more doable and less time consuming. Also, Monza SP1, a previous legend pass car (if I'm not mistaken), free to grind for, is very nice for those f2p.

In the reveal video on KZbin, it is mentioned that Overclock will be available for multiplayer. Overclocked cars will be indicated by a special symbol in the leaderboards. This might actually deteriorate the multiplayer experience, given the amount of league mixing that is currently going on. Also, if this is not done in an f2p friendly manner, the playerbase will shrink further.

I would like to see Overclock chips actually make some buffs on the cars I do daily. So far, if it does have cars that are so powerful but with low handling, I would consider that a big W for me since do spend most of my time driving those. Especially the base Laferrari for defense and the C7R. We did got the Concept S SE and I unlocked the 600LT last night so I’m set for DS7. I’m not spending anymore tokens for now until Friday. And I don’t know if I can 4* the Concept S for the F1LM. It does drive smoothly, I can use it to practice for the C1 this year’s Black Friday.

I'm mostly f2p, I did purchase the past 2 Legend Passes. What I learned over the years with the asphalt series is to be content with the cars I have. I used to chase the new kings in A8 and grinded a lot. But now in A9, I'm don't have much time like I used to, I'm happy with a couple of decent cars for MP.

Let’s be honest, you have basically every car available in the game so you won’t have to worry about OC meanwhile most of us will barely have any car to overclock, leaning into bigger gap between casual players and whales. They already charge quite a lot for everything so having to extra upgrade cars that were already hard to get is ridiculous but oh well, it’s GL in the end.

At worst this makes some cars OP, and at best it could be a temporary balance solution, making some underlooked cars viable I don't mind having some mtx, but I just don't want A9 to end up like A8, where you can't even get some S class cars without paying. At least in A9 you have A CHANCE to get nice cars

as this "overclock" chip is only for certain cars only, this would make some balance amongst the players who pay 2 win or have like a good collection of cars, as for me with barely 50 cars, I highly doubt that whatever I have would end up on the every season's overclocked selected cars list, I would just be lucky if I can overclock the best car I OWN so far, definitely not a balanced change for some average like me. edit: i also believe that I would definitely see the overclocked cars in mp, because "hype" exist, making my chances on progressing in mp without an overclocked car way harder than whatever it is now

Personally while I understand the freemium model and it's business we honestly need to accept long run they've broken multiplayer with the Devel. The car literally finishes seconds ahead of the F5 in a lot of maps (the F5 in itself already godly beforehand). When pro players are in the lobby there's literally no point for everyone else and with how much they overpowered the Devel makes you wonder more why they gave the Bolide such poor nitro, it would balance things better. The reason I liked a lot A9 over A8 is there was generally closer competition in classes. Yes it changed with the Jesko but generally they did add cars that were close to it (even the F5 while better someone in a Jesko can still come close). The Devel is literally like you're in your own game

Exactly; the Devel is at its own level, that's why (hopefully) Overclock will give other top S class cars a chance to fight back or at least bring some competition to the upper ranks

My biggest fear of this update is to see overclocked vanda, huracan evo and corvette GS, if I was suffering with 003s, I don't wanna imagine how be this situation with overclocked vanda, but I'm still wait SCG be eligible to be overclocked, just only overclock the handling and accel and will be invincible and SCG 003s and may gonna cause the terror of the MP again as years ago, only left what how be the update...

Off-topic: I would say that even with the whole patch notes mentioning fixes to Android phones recently, I did discover an incredible bug where if you have a potato phone that runs on 4GB, and setup Asphalt 9 there, you press The Shop button. Then if you're loading so slow to make this bug work, you need to rapidly press the back button in you phone's navigation bar as fast as you can, once the shop is loaded up, keeping pressing the back button until you find a moving camera angle of the car you last checked/played in a cinematic angle. I discover this since yesterday since I was so impatient getting another free pack. What do you think, do you also discover this bug by mistake (unless you know slow performing and laggy device is an android).

Is overclock only available for MP or can it be used to finish in the top 5% in car hunt riots and post better times in Clash? If it's only useful for MP, I hate the feature but will continue to play, most likely. If it makes daily events and Clash pay to win, I'm 100% finished with this game. Also, everybody who hates this feature should band together and 360 any player who's using it in MP.

If the ability to overclock cars is more accessible it will be very useful for beginners in career as they dont have to wait to star up a car, or wait to unlock a new one. It will be useful in multiplayer too as they can test their skills/capabilities.

I think the route they took with overclocking was boring, imagine if instead of every car getting buffed in every stat each car got more more highly buffed in 1 or 2 stats, like the 9x8 getting a buff to its ts & accel or the F1LM getting like +4 points to its accel. It would make overclocking more personalized with every car

@@CarsOnGaming you showed one of the new cars having it. To me its sounds pretty obvious gameloft will do this. The new cars will be the first one to feature it. Overclocking should only be allowed on low end cars... but this shouldnt be a problem if we had proper good multiplayer layouts. Each season has a balance of cars that makes them all relatively good against each other. Instead we have free for all multiplayer races. Just take an huracan and corvette grand sport and ruin everyone else race with non stop showaves. Before this world wide multiplayer we had seasons of a week or so with great rewards. I was getting tokens and 10 or even 15bp for the fennyr for just being in legendary. Now you have to be on the top 3000 In the terrible multiplayer to get 2 zenvo bps? I almost never play multiplayer. Its a massive waste of time and energy, I only play when my chiron or maxed ultima is in the season gives me a chance to take it for a drive..Overclocking is just a bandaid to the current issue with multiplayer. Not a devil sixteen issue. Making balanced multiplayer season and getting rid of the free for all season that last a month should be terminated or highly reduced in time. I got to legendary a few times and i get acura and other useless car bps that i already have. If im lucky i get 3 bps for the mercedez benz.

The monetization in Asphalt 9 is criminal and it's basically handicapping the player with paywalls at every turn and offer gambling for real money to surpass these obstacles they implemented. It frustrates me to no end, even just to imagine how all of this criminal stuff was implemented into the game! The game is pure evil. Someone needs to make a thorough analysis and bring all the pluses and minuses together and show this money-grabbing scheme for what it really is. They don't just want to make money with the collective player base, they want to dry the wallet of each end every individual. What they are doing is criminal and it will come back at them like a boomerang, so stop excusing them for doing so.

Every game is a business, ,but game loft should learn from clash of clans how to run a business by making player base happy . Instead they are making the game pay to win instead of pay to progress like a good online game . So they want to make money ? Give good offers for cheap so most players can buy them and progress faster . If they added better value to legend pass almost all f2p players will start buying them in future . So far every event is designed for only a handful of player base to piss of average players and offers feel like scam with no real progress . They are actively trying to milk out as much money as possible😂 ,,not trying to make it more enjoyable so all players consider spending some so the game can bring better stuff in future .

I kinda agree with you but: 1. Asphalt has one of the highest earnings of any multiplatform game, I think they can develop new features without the overclock function. 2. You just spent $5500 on the devil and you want to see the game in a positive light after such a big investment.

It would be best to restrict overclocking to Class S Cars since most of them are severly overranked relative to their actual Top Speeds. Platinum and lower don't really need such an adjustment because even Class B Cars (free or exclusive) are good enough to get anyone into Legend League. I've reached my point of diminishing returns with the LP and Daily Event Pass, so I don't intend to spend any more in the future. After I unlock the Zenvo Phonk Decal, that's it. Just back to good ol' fashioned Hard Grinding like in the past.
