XD4 Whistle - Mine was doing it and I discovered it was because air was getting between the shell and the communicator on the outside of the shell. It took a while to find, and after moving the placement, it solved the issue.

Something wrong with your helmet, sure its not a clone? My vents work fine, and the visor stays anywhere I leave it even inbetween the detents. Open the visor with one finger or thumb in the middle out if line of sight. Only issue I have itms, if you close it down so its just cracked open, you cannot open it up again without closing it all the way. I have the clear visor though, and bought mine from a helmet shop in person. Mine doesn't have the strap clip on the back though. My liner clips have worked fine over 3 years with regular removal for washing.

Ok.. I appreciate this review! Finally a Man who knows what he wants in a helmet! I learned about Nexx doing research on the TourTech helmet that is made by Nexx so I bought the X.Vilijord Carbon, like you I wanted to love it but I just don’t. It’s so close to good but small things keep me from loving it..

Agreed. It’s a shame. Such a badass looking helmet. Ruined by super cheap internals.

I wouldn't say Nexx is bad, but I have to agree with you on several things. I own 4 Nexx helmets and the ventilation isn't the best. Taking the pads out and putting them back in and that they stay in is a chore. I like the weight of my Nexx CF which comes in at 1250g. Riding 9-11 hours a day on a BDR you really feel the weight after a while. A light helmet makes a big difference. But hopefully it's still a good helmet even though it's light. Many more upgraded features with the Nexx which most agree are nice. They fixed the cheap parts of the helmet with the NEXX X Wed3 helmet. The cool colors can definitely make you wanting to wear the NEXX helmet. I have to agree with you that NEXX isn't quite there yet, but they are improving.

Well written. And the weight and colors are the only reason I wouldn’t totally trash the brand. And at 450$ from chrome burner it’s an easier pill to swallow than paying vendors in the states 700+ dollars. The arai may be heavier, but at least I don’t have to worry about pieces and parts failing during an extended ride. I hope Nexx improves quality cause I love the look and weight.

Great review. I agree the Nexx is lousy. All the parts are ready to break in your hands, and the deal killer is the garbage pieces which hold the visor on - designed to break, and then try to find them in stock anywhere. If you don't have spares on a trip it's game over. The other part I totally agree with is the venting. The chin vent is the only one passing any air, the rest are for decoration. I did like the internal sun visor, but that's it. I rode this as my primary helmet for 6 months and about 5,000 miles including a Death Valley trip. Never buying another Nexx product, ever.

Right now I'm juggling between the Shoei RF1400 and the Klim Krios Pro. Really loving the Klim right now, but either of these helmets easily beat the Nexx hands down.

Great review man! I feel like Arai as well as Nexx both adressed most major issues with both helmets in the XD-5 as well as the X.WED-3. I just ordered the new Nexx helmet because of the lower cost and current better availability. And I think the new Nexx looks even better than the old model. However, the new Arai also looks much better than its old version. Gonna report back in two weeks, when I'm back from the first 2000 mile trip with the new helmet.

Tried latest Arai (XD5) in Milano at Eicma last year. XD4 was a perfect fit for my headshape. Was. XD5 is not a good fit for my long oval head anymore. Plus, its the same rewarmed japanese broth. This company is stuck in the 90s in my opinion. Typical traditional recipe of selling a differently repacked item until they extract all the financial benefits without any real technological jumps. Its a pitty.

Alright, so I have done about 2000 miles in the helmet now and here is what I think, partly with regards to issues you had with the older model. The X.WED-3 is generally awesome. It comes with a great GoPro chin mount, sun visor, a clear and a tinted visor, a pinlock and a great peak. I first tried the helmet without the pinlock, but it foged up pretty badly. Since I installed the pinlock, I've only had very slight fogging in extreme situations like riding while it was snowing in just about freezing temperature. The vents work great, they let in a lot of air, but they also block off the air well when their closed. However, when the vents are open, you can hear that. They introduce quite a bit of noise when opened. I ride with earplugs anyway, so it doesn't really bother me, but the helmet is generally pretty loud. I do always notice that when taking very short trips where I don't put the earplugs in. Other than that, the vents also feel high quality, are easy enough to find even with gloved fingers and, apart from the middle eyebrow vent, it is obvious in what position they are open. The helmet has great spaces to put in speakers for a com system, however, there is barely any space to put the actual com system on the outside of the helmet. I had a Sena and I managed to mount it to the helmet, but it wasn't great at all. I switched to a Cardo today, that's quite a bit better, but still not great. Obviously it has a dedicated space for an X-Com, which is Sena based. That would integrate perfectly into the helmet. The visor now has three tabs to open it, one on the left, one on the right and one in the center. I find that quite convinient and I use all three of them. However, while the visor has two half-opened positions, they are very weak. I personally never have my visor partially open, I either open it completely or I shut it completely, so personally that doesn't bother me at all. Taking the cushions out is very easy. Putting them back in, however, is a bit tricky. The first time it took me quite a while, the second time I was much quicker, but still took me a bit longer than it should have. The peak works great and is very flexible so it won't break. The visor mechanism itself works like a charm and feels great. Taking off and putting on the visor works extremely well, better than on any helmet that I have ever used. A quirk about the chin wind deflector that seems to be on all X.WED-3s: The wind deflector is supposed to clip in in the middle, the left and the right. The middle clip works perfectly, but if you clip it into the left and then into the right side then the left unclips again and vice versa. I have found however, that it doesn't need the left and right clips. It works perfectly fine only being clipped into the middle. It does still have the weird bracket in the back to hold the goggle strap, but I totally agree with you, the goggle strap is supposed to stay in place all by itself. Nexx seem to have realised that people might not like the bracket and made it removable. Edit: I just realised that the old model, the one you have in the video, also has three tabs on the visor, you seem to have totally overlooked that.

Forgot to mention the Nishua Enduro carbon helmet has many rebranded names some of which are Marushin L9, TVD, and Klim Krios basic version not the pro one(the more famous brand amongst the rest and most expensive). The only difference between all this is that each of them would only differ from the finishes or design/colour scheme or the small bits and parts they used to make the helmet more "polished". So the Klim Krios looks the best and it has the koroyd EPS thingy while Nishua/Marushin/TVD uses the regular old school EPS. However they all look the same and are all carbon fiber. So this gives enough reason that all are made in the same factory in China probably and then rebranded and sold according to the brands target market (marushin and TVD mainly China, Nishua mainly Europe, Klim globally). However the good news here is that this means if you get a Nishua for example, you can get spare parts from Klim like a photocromic or iridium visor and it should fit on your Nishua helmet. So this makes spares sort of in abundance if you know where to look. Lastly, just an idea. In theory since the parts seems to be interchangeable, this means if you prefer the colour scheme of the marushin L9 but its not available in your size, you can always just buy the inner liner for the Nishua and the swap it out with Marushin helmet to make it fit you. Meaning if I want the marushin L9 Helmet because of the colour scheme but it's only has size M above and Im a size xs, I go over to Louis Motorrad website and buy a size XS nishua inner liner and cheekpads. Then I just put the Nishua inner liner and cheekpads into the marushin helmet and it should fit me now. So yeah just a cool thing to know. I have ordered some spare parts from Marushin directly from a China reseller for cheaps, so I'll revert back once I've tested to see if this theory works 👍

The amount of "friends" I made after telling everybody this is a cheap helmet and shoudl stay away from it, uiii, unimaginable. Luckily for me, I was playing with it in Eicma Milano in 2019 (i think) and realized what a flop it was. Im now curious about the 3 model. Havent seen/touched it. Seems an improvement, insane money were pumped into promotion (multimedia and big names), seems the same recipy, this time much better tuned. Looking forward to get close to one. Anyway, coming back to our topic + summarizing - i cannot thank you enough for this video. Its the kind of material i bump into once in 3 to 6 months spent on youtube. Yeah the Explorer looks the part but I'm not a fan of it and prefer to wear my airoh mx helmet instead. The LS2 is so bulky, has small closed in eye port and the build quality is a bit cheap. It has overkill airports too but I'm not impressed with airflow. Nexx looks good but 💩 be getting expensive and it still looks a bit cheap and nasty for the money to be fair.

If you go to a motorcycle exhibition you will see that LS2 and a lot of other enduro and adv helmets (entry level Airohs, Acerbis adv, Nolan enduros, O`Neal, you name them) and most of the Chinese and no name brands use a totally identical plastic shell. That shady far east factory must be doing some serious profit considering the volumes. The only difference was made by the inner padding, visor shape, graphics and paint quality.
