Oh, my oldest card is from 2007. It has XP drivers, and it ran HL2 at 460 fps min in the entire game with max settings at 1024x1280 (what I assume XP would be running). I had to install its drivers on Windows 10 using comparability mode. It might do ok at GTA 4, but I have never played that game. That card is an ATI fire-gl V8650 with 2 GB Vram (DDR4 with 512 bus width, yeah, 32 Vram chips on the massive card), needs a 6+8 pin power connector and sounds like a jet engine while idle at 70*c. I don't think many would have had this card for playing games since it cost $2,799. But it doesn't cost much now, even brand new in a sealed box. But without DX11 or DX 12 its pretty limited. I think my R9 270 was getting 110+ fps min on Tomb Raider 2013 with everything max settings, and the ATI only got 30 (but hair tessellation wasn't available and I can't remember if I ran 16x AA like I usually do). So its nowhere near modern day performance.

@steffenkawa83747 жыл бұрын
first both are a big upgrade if you have a gtx 960. It really depends on the games you wanna play. if you just play LOL or CS Go a 960 is enough. But in general if you play 1080p a R9 290 is still enough for almost all games. If you wanna play 1440p or higher a Fury or something better would be preferred. Just watch some benchmark videos/reviews and then make your choice.
@coopercummings83707 жыл бұрын
if you are considering a 290, you might want to step up to a 290x and try to find one of the rarer 8gb models or a 390 or 390x, they might be a bit more than a 290 but the extra vram might help it last a bit longer, especially on 1440p. The 390 and 390x were only a little bit faster than the 200s, but the extra vram will make a big difference if you ever go over 4gb of usage (unless you find an 8gb 290x, they made some but not many).

I have two Titans at the moment and although they can still achieve 60fps at 1440p in most titles (at least those with SLI support) quite a few modern games have issues on Kepler hardware, such as Forza Horizon 3 which randomly crashes and NieR:Automata where the video freezes but the game keeps running, which cost me about 10 hours of progress throughout my playthrough. I'm holding out for the Volta Titan because no other GPUs have lasted as long as these with most of my previous ones having died before I considered upgrading them.

haha i loved this one. Sold my original gtx titan 2monthd ago for 310€ on ebay. yes i paid 1000$ at the time, but getting 310 back to use towards my gtx 1080 was pretty nice. I upgraded cuz im running 2x 4K panels now so i needed more horsepower. The titan in my opinion was a definitive good buy, it had 6gb vram compsred to 3gb on 780, turned out that 3gb was extremely limited for future compatibiloty with vram usage increasing a lot in newer game titles. The card lasted very well while i had it, but wouldnt recommend as a buy today, given the newer alternatives, but do remember this is a card from 4 years ago! seeing it nearly in a tie with 1060 is impressive!
@finaltidus19847 жыл бұрын
Hi, I think you failed to mention that the original GTX Titan had 16 times more Double Precision computing prowess meant for folding/bitcoin mining. This was why the price was extravagantly high at that point whereas the consumer Kepler cards did not have DP capabilities. And that was also why the Titan needed a lot more power than the consumer Kepler cards.

A well overclocked 980 ti will match a well overclocked 1070 in my experience. They seem pretty equal in performance, and the VRAM difference doesn't matter much until you get into 4k territory where you would need 2 of either card in SLI anyway. I paid around 600 bucks for my Gigabyte G1 Gaming 980 Ti SLI setup. The cards I have overclock to 1500 on the core. Look on Reddit Hardware Swap for some good deals.

If you're talking new, sure. But on the used market, the 980 ti wins for costing less and performing essentially the same. SLI for 600ish is better than SLI for 800ish all day long.

@TheBcoolGuy7 жыл бұрын
In my experience, it is a 780Ti with a little more VRAM priced as a GTX 980Ti. A Titan Black or the first Titan X would make more sense at that pricepoint, and if you're looking at this, I'd recommend a 980 or something over the original Titan.

If you're really that high end of a consumer nowadays it's really recommended to go for a 1080 or even 1080 Ti if you're rocking a high refresh rate monitor or higher than 1080p resolutions. A 1070 wouldn't really cut it if you have those demands. Someone who bought a Titan doesn't strike me as a person that would settle for a 1070 since it doesn't quite meet all those demands. On the other hand... if you want the best 1080p experience and maybe you rock a 60 Hz display the 1070 is one, if not the best price/ performance card as of right now. Great video btw

Trade in for a 1070 with some addition makes sense. I had an overclocked 780 (which outperformed the stock titan) and exchanged it to an RX480 8GB and it was totally worth it. I don't even hear any noise from my RX480, the temps are so much lower in the case and requires only 8pin of power instead of 2x 8pin. For people that use their PCs also as a Hackintosh machines i don't recommend the Pascal series because there are no drivers for OS X, while RX480 is supported but if you focus only on gaming go for the GTX1070, it's a beast that also overclocks very well.

What do you think of the sapphire RX 580 8G Special Edition? And what Nvidia card compares closest to me I believe it's the Nvidia GTX 980? If you want me to provide some gameplay I wouldn't mind
@TheThunderwars6 жыл бұрын
The 6 GB Vram makes it age not so baddly. The original Titan is basically a glorified GTX 780, and is outperformed by a 780 Ti which has 250 more cuda cores and higher clock speeds but lower Vram ( 3GB). The 780 Ti can still kick 1060's ass in pure gaming performance while the Titan manages to equal it. It's still a good buy if you find it for very cheap.

I love the aspect of you channel in Budget PC gaming, and your content is amazing as well, but I have to give my two cents when it comes to building a PC for the first time. Whenever you want to build a pc I say go big or go home. Try to save over $1000, because you want to be able to have your system play for a good amount of time. I used to have a i5-2500k build and a GTX 670 with 8gb of ram. It lasted me a good 5 years, and I gave it to my brother as a hand me down. Then I went all out with my current build. i5-6600k overclocked to 4.3ghz, 1070 Aero MSI overclocked to 2050mhz with 16gb of ram. I will not have to buy new hardware I say for another 10 years, depending on how fast graphics progress. I spent 1200 on this build, around the same with my last one too. Yes, the 1060 or the 1050ti are amazing graphics cards, but how will they perform in the next 4 or 5 years? I rather have something last me a long time than me having to worry about it dying in the future, especially when its used or older hardware.

When did the original Titan come out? Because im pretty sure the 780 runs Witcher 3 on Ultra at an average of 44 FPS, which seems odd considering the Titan should be doing much better than it lol

You should do the 780 Ti, which is the "gaming" version of the card, they're about $150 on ebay right now.
@Demon09-_-7 жыл бұрын
Christopher Wold 780ti pretty much matched it like all ti versions Nvidia has done. I would probably buy a rx 480 that was on a sale over a 780ti though as I prefer new over used parts. but at a 150$ it's not a bad deal for a 780ti

Could you do some kind of project where you get like an old hp compaq or dell pc and put it into a newer case and see if it will work with a new graphics card? And see if the cooling is even better because of the larger space ?

In multiplayer, you'll always get less fps for BF1, like for example.. in my case on medium settings and with a GTX 960.. I can run 70-90 fps in singleplayer, but in multiplayer.. 40-60. So you should keep this in mind while benchmarking BF1

I had a feeling it would still hold up pretty okay. Considering that most games today are basically a tiny bit more resource heavy than 2013 games, I knew things wouldn't really change. I mean, 2013 was the start of the new generation, so it should hold up pretty well. And like it says at the end of the video, most cards today just use less power. Basically, until we get more than just a upgraded Xbox One and PS4, the titan will hold up. But i'm not saying it wont become outdated soon. for example, Most games were advertised for the DSi during its life, but still ran on the DS/DS Lite. Some games were horrid on the DS Lite and the original DS. The same situation might happen with the PS4 and Xbox. They'll be able to play games, but they'll be advertised for the Newer ones, and on the original consoles, might work horrible. With PC, this happens as well. We'll continue getting new cards and more heavier games, but With the LOW setting getting higher and higher in terms of quality, and Ultra reaching new heights, the titan will be outdated, but just not yet.

Heck, even for a workstation to do some "normal" 3D modeling in Maya (meaning, no render farm stuff, cuda calculations and the like. Modeling stuff for 3D games) a 1070 is still good. It's RAM that you'll need a lot of. (Unless a company is paying, in which case only a Quadro will do :D ).
