Ridge has some quality issues that need to be addressed... The fact it has not been addressed by now is insane. The issue is cards rubbing against each other over time does destroy them. I've replaced my bank cards and credit cards several times and even my I.D. now because of it. I bought a super basic minimalist leather card holder from Vionentus and the difference in quality is huge, not speaking about the price which is 1\5 but the build\finish is better. Just proof that paying more doesn't necessarily mean it's a higher quality.

@bencheevers6693 3 жыл бұрын
@@Faolan_Grey Bro, You drank the koolaid, this material science was known about in the late 1800s when they mastered machine lathes and milling machines. The only difference is the carbon fiber which is purchased in large sheets of the correct width and stamped into the right shape and then cleaned up on deburring machine, it's the same thing with the titanium, these wallets cost about 10$ to make and that's probably only if it includes exotic materials, the mark up for the exotic materials is like 30$. This product is an absolute ripoff and quite frankly useless. I keep thick bifold wallet with a driver's licence window in my back pocket usually, depending on the pants I wear I take it out while driving, depends if it has enough room far enough over to get into that sweet spot where it's not directly under the weightiest part of my buttcheek but not often other than that, even though this one is much slimmer than a regular wallet it has no give, it'll be the same level of annoyance just of a different variety. This is peak first world problems here, paying 120$ USD which is like 160 CAD or more where I am in order to kind of solve a kind of issue at the expense of functionality, that's more money than some people get per year. I know that's a really obtuse statement but this thing is just so stupid, anyways that's my rant for now. Edit: I meant to say per month because people in poverty in Central America in a rough spot might not even make 100$ a month. In some places in the world people don't even make a dollar a day but obviously this is an obtuse factoid to throw in when discussing buying habits of people in the first world who even in poverty make 18K per year. Also there are more slaves in the world today than at any other point in history, many of them are children and many are forced to work for scraps of food but the real incentive is the water which they don't get if they meet their quote of bricks that make out of mud, clay and water that they sit out under the hot sun making with a wooden mould. Should they fail their quote, all they've got to drink is the muddy water that's been mixed in to make the mud. My point being that these people don't actually make enough in a year to buy this wallet.

I bought a knock off carbon fiber one from Drop for about $13 because I couldn’t justify spending $70 on a revolutionary (to me) wallet that I might not even like. Well, I lived with it for almost a year and the design really grew on me. Sometimes I forget I even have my wallet because it’s so light and thin and small. I only have about 5 cards in my wallet, 3 are embossed. It’s not really an issue with the numbers getting caught, there’s a certain (though not at all difficult) way to put your cards back in, you kinda need to put it in at an angle and go from the bottom to the top of your card stack. Fast forward to Christmas of 2020 and my girlfriend’s parents get me a genuine Ridge wallet in matte black. It’s more stylish, marginally thinner but noticeably higher quality all around. The screws are Torx heads instead of Philips, and they are machined almost perfectly flush with no bowing in the surface due to over-tightening during manufacturing. The elastic bands feel more durable and like they won’t permanently outstretch. The money clip is firmer and feels more secure. The matte finish doesn’t feel like it’s going to scratch and neither will the laser etched logo. I have no doubts about the RFID blocking ability on this one, meanwhile I was hesitant with the knock-off one. I would recommend that you get a cheap one if you’re interested in trying this, and then decide if you like it or not. If you really like it and decide you want something with fine craftsmanship, get a genuine Ridge wallet.

This style of wallet has been around since the 80's that I can remember. My $35 real leather wallet I purchased 10 plus years ago, which has gone through several loads in a washing machine and a dryer (by accident) has held up like nothing else. i have a knockoff ridge wallet and i just flick through the cards like the wallet is a book, i just pull it apart, flip through for the card, grab it, instead of going through the cards like a deck of cards. I've had it for over a year now and it has been through everything, yet the wear and tear is very acceptable and the elastic is holding up great! the money clip it has is perfect for holding onto a bit of cash, or even a gas card that has credit on it, or some reciepts, or even all 3! Ever since I transitioned from a bulky 3 fold wallet, I haven't felt bogged down by my wallet. If my fake ridge does eventually break, I will definitely consider buying the real deal.

Ime most places that you "need" to spend cash at don't do change (coins) anyways. They adopt a flat price to make cash transactions easy & fast. Think state fairs, events, door fees, etc. Before I even had a ridge I was throwing all my coins in a bag & dumping them to get a return. I'd rather just do business in a way where there's no change involved. Change has slowly been phasing out for quite a while now.

For real dude? I've owned 2 wallets over the past 30 years. They were like 20-30 bucks each. They also have the added feature of holding cash and receipts. It also provides me with the ability to flash my ID without having to remove it. This thing is bad for embossed cards? Soooooo, it's bad for any card that I'd use to buy stuff? Also, if you use a key card to access your office building, parking garage, etcetera, you can put that in your leather wallet (provided you don't sandwich it in between other cards) and BOOM! Your wallet is now a key fob. No chance this $130 metal thing will do that. You'd use this metal thing for some cards, a money clip for your cash and your access cards can just float around awkwardly in your pockets. Or, I guess you can fumble around with them every time you need access. The more I think this through, the more I think you might need to buy a purse to carry around all this stuff. Good review though, man. Love your channel. I'll be keeping my leather wallet though (opposite my pocket watch, of course.)

The fact that your wallet can act as a "key fob" is actually a security hole. Anyone can walk by you with a portable scanner and pull the information from your wallet, and create a new card impersonating you and entering your workplace. Sure it's more convenient. But it's less secure. Having the card between metal is better security.

ridge wallet is now being pushed by ads in central europe - for double price than us. thx for this video - it helped me realize why not to buy it. 1st reason - no space for coins! - we use coins with value up to 2 USD, while lot of things in places where you use cash (pubs, street stands) are cheaper than US (beer from 1.20 USD, street food like hotdog from 1 USD) , so you arent effectively able to get rid of coins completely (smallest note in my country equals 4 USD) 2nd reason - all cards are embossed (for no reason nowdays - we pay almost only contactless, with apple pay/google pay etc.., i havent seen offline terminal for more than decade) 3rd reason - 10 cards isnt enough. So thanks for this video!

I love my carbon fiber Ridge Wallet. I'm always looking for the most minimal wallet possible because I hate having things in my pockets. I also tend to use Google Pay absolutely everywhere I can, and rarely actually take my wallet out. I did have to get used to the added inconvenience of retrieving cards from the wallet, but I actually found an easier method that wasn't touched on in this video. If you push the cards up then squeeze the two plates together at the bottom the cards will actually fan apart at the top allowing you to grab the one you need.

My wallet is the exact opposite of the ridge wallet. It's a completely hand-made, full grain leather "trucker style" wallet by Mr Lentz (the company/website). Not to sound like I'm advertising or anything, but I'm just really happy with it. It's made with brass rivets and is the type of wallet that will literally last multiple lifetimes, especially if you take care of it. It's a bit long and sticks out of your back pocket, but comes with a chain and looks good. The entire wallet itself doesn't fold, so cash stays flat in it, and it doesn't get super thick with lots of cash. That's just the trucker style wallet, though. There are many other styles as well. Prices vary, mine was only a bit more expensive than the ridge wallet, but it was well worth it. You can even customize it.

If I’m being honest, I’m not sure I would pay $95 for this wallet, but if you’ve got the money for it I would definitely recommend it. I’ve dropped this thing from waist level onto cement multiple times and it still has only the lightest scratches on the edges. It feels solid and premium in the hand and pocket. It’s durable, easy to use, and looks pretty great. Again if you can pony up the funds, I’d say you should go for it.

I use a binder clip as my 'wallet'. It's worked great for me for a few years now, and I'm pretty sure I picked up the clip from a former job for free.

Good review. I'm using a Leatherboss right now which has been ok up until recently when I noticed pushing my CC into it now starts to snag a corner and then slides in crooked, have to pull it out and push it back several time to get it straight. So with that I AM about ready for another 'slim' wallet purchase and thought about the 'ridge', after this review though I'm not sold on that either, money on the outside I'm not really keen on. I had a Big Skinny wallet before this Leatherboss, the problem I find with these slim leather wallets is they only seem to last a year or maybe two before the the stitching starts to fail or whatever. Maybe I'll just buy another Leatherboss, I dunno, I see it's only $10 on Amazon, even though it lasted about 10 months it's kind of hard to argue with the price.

I couldn't justify spending that much money on the ridge wallet, I already spend an obscene amount on holsters and knives because I'm constantly updating my edc..So I brought 2 Yinoude Minimalist Aluminum wallet, they're comfortable enough .
