DUDE you took the words right out of my mouth! That's exactly what I was thinking, but didn't know how to put it. Sunbreak feels like a REMAKE of Rise, not an expansion. And it did many things right IMO. I was kinda shocked by how much I was enjoying this and I kept yelling at the screen "this is what Rise SHOULD have been!" Btw about you saying "Rise is not for me and doesn't need fixing, but Sunbreak fixed Rise". I think it's because the monsters can actually (somewhat) put up a fight now, whereas all they did in base game was roll over and die. Some monsters in Sunbreak still do that, but Aknosom and Kezu so far have been whacking me all over. And I've only just unlocked MR3. And Mr Crabs was the only new monster I've fought so far. Your feeling is probably due to the dopamine kick of overcoming challenge Personally, I'm fine with the arcadey format as well as the grounded format like MH:Dos. It's just that base Rise did not live up to the standards set by other arcadey MH Titles. If you're gonna make an arcadey MH game where it's all about slaying monsters, then make sure to fill it to the brim with content and make the monsters tough, and give the player more things to grind. MHG did a good job with deviant armors as post-game grind, whereas everything in Rise felt like a severely watered down version of MHG. EDIT: OMFG YES LAGOMBI WAS ANNOYING AF OMG STAY STILL YOU STUPID BUNNY EDIT 2 (Sorry I'm typing out my comments as I'm watching your video): 100% Agree on the characters. They don't feel soulless like the characters in Kamura. I had no reason to care about them, whereas in Sunbreak, the follower quests are by far my favorite feature. They talk to each other during hunts, engage in friendly banter. There was a nice attempt on character development, unlike the fan-servicey weeb-bait characters of Kamura. Even that little kid character wasn't cringe as I thought she was gonna be (that's one anime trope I HATE. Even in FF14 my most hated character is Tataru LOL) EDIT 3: AWESOME LEGO SETS!!!!!!!!!

Hey jakub! I downloaded a few mods that I think make sunbreak as close to classic monster hunter as it can be, without breaking the gameplay. 1. Slightly modified infinite wirebug mod. Basically I went into the code in notepad and changed wirebug recharge time from 0 to 3000. Basically this restricts practical access to the wirefall so that you can only use it when you absolutely have to. It also has the (initially unintended) effect of making access to special wirebug moves difficult, so that you have to use them strategically, in tune with your wirefall. I don't mind this personally, but if I did there's no way I know how to fix it, and the actual mod maker (raffrun) says it would be difficult. There's a worse caveat that I don't know how to fix (maybe raffrun would): if you use one wirebug, it resets the timer on all of the other wirebugs, meaning if you use one wirebug, the others you've used come back at the same time as the others. 2. Classic healing mod. Fairly self explanatory 3. Permanent third wirebug. Makes the previously mentioned issue easier to deal with.

Hello fellow Rise hater, I agree. My experience is (almost) identical (I still don't think it feels like classic MH). It hasn't fixed the weapons, and it still doesn't feel like Monster Hunter, but at least it feels like a good game that I'm interested in for reasons other than the title "Monster Hunter" activating the pleasure centre of my brain because I associate it with really good games from 8+ years ago. I LOVE Malzeno. Its design, fight, lore and gear are all on-point (it seems to be inspired by Estrellian, the MHO flagship which I loved too, so that's unsurprising; given the Frontier flagship is in the game, I suspect they wanted to include Estrellian but don't own the rights to it). Espinas is also pretty great in Sunbreak, the final boss is one of the good ones like Gog, and a lot of old monsters (like Shagaru, Kushala, Teostra and Rathalos) definitely feel the best they've ever been. Don't know what went wrong with Chameleos but it's literally easier than the high rank version, and barely different from the high rank version for that matter. Like I went back and fought the high rank (event, tbf) version AFTER the G rank version, and had a harder time avoiding its attacks (though obviously because of sheer damage numbers it's not like I carted or anything and I still finished the hunt faster, but the gameplay itself was harder).

As a monster hunter veteran, I find scroll swapping absolutely genius. All those weapons I never liked playing before? I can now customize their moveset to be enjoyable. Sunbreak has been cool, i got to the credits yesterday and i'm just really pleased. -The monster variety, core design principles for the fights are sound, the balance of serving nostalgia and making new cool monsters. -The jungle is just so awesome. -All of the little systems are neat and not annoying, they saw the problems with rampages and were perfectly blunt to just remove them. -The weapon options in G rank are already really awesome, especially seeing stuff like, them really boosting the element on some CBs and making vaik into a water option that's actually really good. -The new armor skills are fun to mess around with. -The quest list has so much fun stuff. -The visual direction is appropriate and not suffocatingly japanese. -Arrangements of old themes are really nice, i much prefer the formula of adding a section or extending one with a few new bars, but leaving the core intact. I'm only kinda bummed about the jungle theme, because they got rid of the vocals entirely (they could have just made them fake words) and they got rid of the little break with percussions only, making it so much less memorable, those 2 motifs were what made the theme really unique... and in general: new mh, can we please turn up the percussions in the mix? -I still have the same gripes with wirebugs as before. Skill swap is what it was meant to be for switch skills, but on the other hand it's a bandaid solution for being locked out of using certain pairs of silkbind moves, previously. They just shouldn't be exclusive to one input. (Axe hopper and Counter peak performance for example) -some general questionable design decisions like excessive use of double hitboxes on one fight or another and some other stuff. but as of now the dawn tinted glasses are in full effect. It just visually looks really good and very much closer to what i expect when i think of Monster Hunter. And it does a great job of doing some Fanservice, while giving us some creative new stuff too.

I felt like Rise had made things a bit too arcadey myself (I started with MH3U and have solo completed G-Rank in that one as well as 4U, GU, and World/Iceborne), but I'm hoping that Sunbreak (which I finally picked up after much deliberation and after watching some videos on it, including yours) corrects the issues. I didn't hate Rise (I beat Narwa at least) but it left me feeling unfulfilled and uninterested by the end, moreso than base World which I was into enough to play twice before Iceborne (and I played through all of World for a third time and Iceborne a second time on PC a couple of years ago and enjoyed it quite a bit again). I just don't want Monster Hunter to become like every other 3D DMC-inspired action game with fast paced, weightless, mashy combat. I'd like it to remain more deliberate, weighted and Dark Souls-y, if you will. And even though I know some other pre-World fans felt that World had already gone too far in that direction, I didn't (I think that attacks and movement in World still have a nice chunkiness to them, and I think the sense of exploration is still there, even with the more streamlined gathering mechanics). Rise though with the wirebug and palamute riding? That was too much for me.
@unicorntomboy97362 жыл бұрын
I like Rise Sunbreak far more than World Iceborne, which I actually don't like that much in hindsight. I am quite happy they ditched the Rampage system completely, and replaced them with Follower quests, which I like a lot. My only big complaint is that i wish they remade the Great Forest from Freedom Unite instead of the FU Jungle. Additionally I don't like how the brand new Citidel map insists on being multiple biomes at once, which feels unbelievable and unrealistic. It could have just been a temperate forest with a gothic fantasy castle ruins in the center of it all, just like that one castle ruins area in Nier Automata

I think everything I've gathered from my experience so far, my friends experience, all the reviewers be they old school hunters or fairly new ones... follower quests are dope as hell. If they want to improve the story they should honestly deviate for a while away from the "X powerful monster is causing the ecosystem to deteriorate" because it's played out to the point it's a trope. I'd be more down for a personal story with characters who are focused on more - maybe delve into why they hunt as a profession? Or why they are researchers? The former is obviously dangerous beyond imagination, so I'm sure most people are wondering how these civilizations can find enough crazed youths to take up the pillar of holding everything together.

I especially love how Sunbreak improves on stuff that Rise already does well. The Monster roster, while small, feels like its meant to supplement the Base Game's almost perfect roster. They really focused on Quality here, Especially with the Base Game monsters. The Characters in Base Rise, while lacking in personality, did do a good job at making us care about the story, not only did they give nearly everyone actual names but they talk to you like your another villager rather then just a Hunter setting up shop here like in previous games, it really help us care about protecting the village from the Rampage. Sunbreak basically does this but better by improving on what Base Rise lacked.
@elk34072 жыл бұрын
So generally I don't like talking about rumors or leaks, but should it be true it further illustrates what Sunbreak does well. Supposedly, title update 1 comes with 6 monsters and by the end of life we will have GU levels of monster count. But if that's true, every single one has to be a big enough addition to carry the weight of being in a title update, rather than just jamming in a bunch of mid tier sub species only for them to be forgotten about in a month.

Yeah. Like, I don't miss having to bring Cool Drinks with me, but it's just another layer of thought and preparation that's gone. Kinda miss having to plan at all, or spend time in my mission trying to effectively do some gathering. Got all these spaces for item loadouts but you only need like three (dunno if maybe bowgun players use more) There's a fine line between inconvenience and compelling Monster Hunter gameplay for me, apparently
@KKoga932 жыл бұрын
I dont miss them at all. Sure it has a tiny/large impact early on depending on how experienced are u in the game but that goes away fast and u just go back to hunting even in old games. Even the old games very fast goes like yeah here is a bunch of these basic essentials for x zenny so u dont have to bother farming them out. As for tracking yea thats a mixed bag again. Most experienced hunters knew exactly where the monsters start on each map and it wasnt really much tracking more so just get thete before it leaves otherwise it gets more annoying. The scoutflies sure was a good idea except it broke down fairly often plus had the same effect later on as in Rise although i can get behind the natural progression of that one. As for fast gameplay i dont know why ppl have problem with it. The games combat just evolves as we are playing on stronger hsrdware and can do more cool things. Im having an absolute blast with the new switch skills and more responsive gameplay more likely attract newcomers which is in turn good for the game too. While i did powered trough it the first time i picked up MH, getting pummeled to death due to cunky controls is just not fun. Just look around how many ppl started off playing MH games the second or third time due to bad tutorial (or lack of) and clunky controls. Its just part of the evolution so we can hunt more creatively since thats still the core point of the game.
@sloff59402 жыл бұрын
I don’t necessarily mind not having to constantly farm for consumable items like in DOS, my gripe about prep mainly lies with infinite items at camp and the removal of the drinks. And regarding your point about gameplay, it’s like you said, you don’t get it, because it’s a matter of preference, can’t speak for the whole community but lots of boomer hunters like me want the combat to become more deliberate, less focus on flashy action, monsters don’t have to spam AOE if I’m not capable of being a living insect glaive. TL;DR imma boomer hunter
@KKoga932 жыл бұрын
@@sloff5940 Mate im a boomer hunter too but the game still needs to evolve. I started in second gen then went back to the very first MH so i totally know what the deliberate combat was. Yes that was fun too but the combat still need to change in some ways cuz otherwise u just get exactly the same game. The games over the years kept trying to put some new spin into the game to keep it fresh and Rise aint different. Also just because things are faster the deliberate combat is still there. In Sunbreak monsters are more agressive and u cant always go full ham unless u want to eat shit and if u want to get done faster u still gotta hit the weakspots which takes carefull positioning as always did. I understand nostalgia and prefering one thing over the other but just cuz u can do more in Rise dosent make combat so bad as some ppl claim to be. As for refills.....is that really such a nitpick? Its optional. I went trough MR up to Malzeno in our old HR gear and we never refilld once. Most ppl never really do cuz its not necessary. The game is not exactly designed that u HAVE to refill but the option is there if u need it. Lot of ppl nitpick about it for absolutely no reason. If u want to challenge yourself to go one loadout for a full hunt cool. Why does it bother u if others might want to use it? Its a coop game so there is no disadvantage for u not using. Its just an accessibility thing which dosent ruin the game or even affect it that much for most players.
@sloff59402 жыл бұрын
Hence why I said “more deliberate”, I want more of it, the way it used to feel, i jump between titles fairly regularly so it ain’t just nostalgia for me. And a self imposed handicap is not at all the same as intended challenge/design, it does not feel the same whatsoever, being able to endlessly refresh items leads to and has lead to design changes that I do not appreciate either, but simply put the game will be designed expecting that the player will make use of this system.

Personally, my main gripe with Rise is still there in Sunbreak. And it is the lack of atmosphere in the maps. I get that it can't as vibrant and full of life compared to World since it's running on lower hardware, but the older generations managed to do more with a lot less. That being said I'm still having fun with Sunbreak.

I feel similar, the aesthetic is way better for me in the sense the characters feel more like characters and weirdly the world feels less washed out somehow. And combat needed the difficulty spike because base Rise felt too easy with the wirebugs but now it feels like the monsters are hard enough to balance out more and I hated Rampage mode so, SB is a win so far for me too.

@BoJangles422 жыл бұрын
I still vastly prefer Iceborne (and MHGU and MH4U for that matter), but at least Sunbreak feels more like a proper MH game, and not like DMC with coop. Sunbreak is still unplayable with 4 hunters and their buddies, just like Rise. Wayyy to much going on and too much bullshit on the screen, even with effects turned down to the lowest setting. But as a 2-person coop or solo experience, it's a noticeable improvement over the base game.
@0xxhell_destrierxx92 жыл бұрын
Not like dmc but what do you mean, what did sunbreak do that made the game less fast action focused ?
@BoJangles422 жыл бұрын
@@0xxhell_destrierxx9 A lot of it is feeling like the added mobility is now necessary and has purpose, due to improvements made to the monsters. Monsters track you better, hit harder, and with new, better movesets. It's not that positioning no longer matters, but the extra mobility is often necessary to evade attacks. In the base game, the wirebug was superfluous, flashy but unnecessary. Sunbreak makes them an important and sometimes an invaluable tool. Wirefall doesn't seem as much of a cheat now, as a lot of knockdowns simply end up as carts due to more wombo-combos and higher damage if you DON'T wirefall to recover. Many monsters (if not all) have at least one heavy knockdown attack that will pin you to the ground IF you don't wirefall to recover from the initial hit, and then cart you if you aren't helped by a teammate using a flash bomb or flinching the monster out of their coup-de-grace on you. You now have the option of just attacking a monster in a mountable state instead of automatically wyvern-riding them. This makes wyvern riding more of an optional tactic instead of something that you are pretty much forced into doing. The new hub and new NPCs are an improvement over Kamura village IMO. New monsters are very fun to fight as is expected with MH. MHR Sunbreak is not as good as MHW Iceborne IMO. But I bounced off Rise pretty hard, and so far I'm enjoying Sunbreak a lot. Of course, YMMV.
