Thank you for showing the rolling shutter effects on more realistic camera movements. So many creators just shake the camera around and say "yep, rolling shutter problems." I remember having watched this video before I bought my Sony A7cii (same sensor and same issues as the A7iv) and was a little skeptical of how much of an issue rolling shutter is going to be as I intended to shoot motor sports. Luckily I can confirm that it is NOT a pratical issue at all if you know how to work around it. As I need the higher frame rate for slow motion purposes I shoot the action stuff in exclusively 4k50 which forces me to use APS-C crop mode. Sensor readout speed in that mode is much faster than in full frame mode. Also I pipe all my footage through GyroFlow (or Sony's Catalyst Browse software) which leverages the gyro metadata in the video file to a) stabilize the clip and b) completely eliminate any left-over rolling shutter. I've made some tests and it can even correct fast pans taken in full frame video mode. Thanks again for the video, I'm very happy with my decision having bought that camera. ✌

It doesn't make the video sharper. It crops towards the center, the sharpest region of lenses. But the crop also makes the video a bit less sharp. For that film / cinema look good enough as many 'photography' lenses are pretty sharp compared to cinema lenses.

The only people that notice rolling shutter are photographers/videographers; audiences usually couldn't care less. I've watched some very popular Netflix series (Mr Robot comes to mind) that have had scenes with much worse rolling shutter than seen here. My gf didn't even know what rolling shutter was until I pointed it out to her several times and then she went "ooooh, OK.... so what? " So if multimillion dollar productions of the most popular shows can put up with rolling shutter, so can KZbinrs and wedding videographers.

Thanks again bro!
@EasyTigerCreative2 жыл бұрын
@@JoseFrescobar well perfect then! Totally makes sense! And well you can just do an external recording too! That could help out! And when you shoot 120fps in s&q mode you set it in camera that you want it to be in camera exported as 24 fps or whatever you’d like so when you import it it’ll be in that. So for example if I put in camera with the s&q mode for 120fps to save it as a 24fps video then it’s already slowed down for me so when I put into my timeline of 24fps it’s already slowed down for me but you can put it in s&q mode to save it as 120fps to slow it down yourself later too basically if you’d prefer.

Hahaha. Right out of the gate with your examples I find it hilarious that anyone complains about this. Who films anything while moving the camera that fast all the time? No one. If something like that is going on it’s for a split second and isn’t noticeable to anyone but people looking for it. I guess if you’re filming sports or car races from far away and zooming into 200mm you may notice it. But even then, you’re not moving the camera fast because you’re far away. If you’re up close and using a wider lens, then it may be a tad noticeable but for real, it’s not. It’s classic overreaction to something that isn’t a big deal. Maybe if you’re filming a rocket sled that can break the sound barrier through a forest or Manhattan, then you may want to look for a different camera.
