If you notice from the Grimaldi family tree, there have been many generations in a row with few children: Albert, Louis and Charlotte were only children, Rainier had only one sister, and Grace had only 3 kids. This means the prince's family is very small in number: there is no local aristocracy or royal cousins like in the UK, it's just Albert and his immediate family for every social event. There also is the tradition of not marrying anybody local, so the Monaco princes don't marry anybody they might have grown up with and met in school or at work like many people do. Instead they've had torrid affairs or brief encounters with foreigners that don't always last.

There is nothing unusual about the family's marital history. Until fairly recently marriages were almost always a matter of business and at that level, also of state. People always hoped for a happy union but they were rare. In most aristocratic unions once the dynastic obligations were taken care of it was common for the husband to take mistresses. On occasion the wives were able to as well. In the old days people tended to be much more clear eyed in their approach to marriage. The whole "and they lived happily ever after" bit was understood to belong to fairly tales, not the real world.

@skylaralexis76993 жыл бұрын
@@0912sooli it usually doesn’t. The power dynamics in Indian arranged marriages are skewed from the start, in favour of the man, because India is a misogynistic and patriarchal society. So once married, the bride has to live with her husband’s family, and it’s extremely common for them and the husband to horribly abuse the bride. The bride/wife can’t even go to the police because the cops in India don’t care much about domestic violence and abuse and women’s rights. The woman can try to get a divorce, but divorce is so highly stigmatised in India, that if she’s a divorcee, she will forever become a social pariah. Women are usually also expected to stay home and not allowed to work after marriage, which means that she’s dependant on her husband financially, which makes it even harder to leave a bad marriage. So, tldr, most arranged marriages are far worse off than what most divorced couples in the west experience. It’s a horrible and cruel system.

As for the curse, this family has a lot of marital unhappiness to the point where you'd think a curse was at work (and there are those who think that Charlene, the current Princess of Monaco, is a victim of the curse), so I'm not surprised that people thought there was one on the family back then and now. Nice video! Oh, and the more recent stuff, too.

When I was growing up, the royal family of Monaco was HUGELY popular in the US. People magazine was especially enamored with covering them. Caroline and Stephanie were constantly is the tabloids. They were so beautiful, and Caroline’s children got a lot of attention too for their beauty and wealth from a young age. With Grace Kelly in their genes, no wonder, and of course that explains the American fascination. I’m kinda surprised it’s fallen away as much as it has, while the British royal family remained popular stateside well before Meghan came into the picture. Admittedly, as I grew older, I encountered tabloids less and less, but with the ubiquity of the Internet growing alongside me, I’m still surprised it appears they’ve really dropped so much from the interests of mainstream gossip. It’s not like the fodder isn’t still there, it’s probably just in the wrong generation. I suppose the younger generation isn’t dramatic enough and the older generation’s antics are no longer marketable to the current 18-49 target demographic for everything that’s deemed to matter.

I dont think age is the deciding factor, I think it's the fact our link to Monaco passed with Grace. However, we'll always be ex's with England. I do wonder if we'd be as invested if it wasn't for Diana, her sons, and now Meghan.
