As far as I have seen India, there isn’t an architecture better than the taj mahal at present. Its just surreal. As an Indian, we tend to neglect the taja mahal that we will see it someday and wasnt even much excited while going to Agra. But after experiencing what it is, would recommend everyone to go and see. Its a place where no picture or video can justify its beauty.

ancient India used to have lot of excellent architectures better than this one. during Islamic rule in India especially in Mughal period about 47000 temples and several other structures were destroyed. others were demolished by the European rulers. that's why India hardly has any ancient structures left in North India. however there are quite a lot of them in South India especially states of Karnataka and Tamilnadu.

Yes, the first mosque in Delhi was built using the stone from 60 Hindu (and perhaps Buddhist and Jain) temples that the pre-Mughal Mohammedans, the Afghan Delhi Sultanate, destroyed! In fact, in the 19th Century a Mughal Prince and scholar argued that the Qutb Minar tower - which was supposedly built by the Delhi Sultans - was actually a Hindu astronomical study tower. This is because the tower is covered in non-Mohammedan symbols etc. The Afghans were too simple to build such a tower, they presumably converted the Hindu scientific tower into a Minaret! Contrary to the countless Eurocentric myths that totally distort true Indian History and achievements, conceptual Philosophy originated in India with the Upanishads centuries before the Miletians (Thales, Anaximander etc. - who were connected to India by the Persian Empire). My own work synthesizing Science and Mysticism shows that the core Vedantic Philosophy remains scientifically valid as is recognized by many New Age scientists investigating Consciousness and related Psychic Phenomena which Western Materialism cannot explain and so they pretend do not exist. Printing books using Block Printing was introduced by Indian Buddhist Missionaries to China. Prior to the Mohammedan invasions, Hindu India led the world in Science - as 11th Century Moorish historian of Science Al-Andalusi wrote. The Medieval Arabs called Mathematics Hindisat - Art of the Hindus. What the Renaissance West called modern Mathematics was in fact Ancient Hindu Mathematics. Modern Arithmetic - the decimal place-value system with Zero - has been called the greatest ever intellectual invention by humans (by Cambridge prof. John Barrow) and compared to humanity's discovery of creating Fire by a French scholar. It was Used in India even at the time of Asoka - 1,000 years before the Arabs [although Westerners mistake it as Arabic as they copied Arab translations]. Doing sums such as 27x14 in your head appeared ,magical to late medieval Italians who watched mathematicians do such 'tricks' at fairs. Along with Zero and modern numbers, Indians invented Negative and Imaginary numbers. Modern Algebra and Analysis (as Henry Colebrooke showed in 1817) are actually derived from Ancient Indian Bijaganita (seed counting) algebra - Persian al-Khwarizmi merely translated Indian Algebra and Astronomy as he did with Indian Arithmetic. Even Infinitesimal Calculus was invented in India by Bhaskara II and Madhava, who live 500 and 200 years before Newton. Trigonometry and the Sine Function was learnt by the Europeans from Aryabhatta's great work of 499c.e. the Aryabhatiya. This was translated into Latin centuries before Copernicus and included Heliocentric models as did other Indian astronomical works preceding Copernicus. Aryabhatta conceived of Relative Motion 900 years before Oresme. The 'Fibonacci' series was known in India long before Fibonacci [Leonardo of Pisa - who translated al-Khwarzimi's Arab translations of Indian Maths into Latin]. Medieval Indian astronomers beat Europeans by centuries to achievements later credited to Tycho Brahe etc. Indeed, as Charles Seife wrote [without knowing that Infinitesimal Calculus also was invented in India before Newton] - the Scientific Revolution of Descartes (Analyltic Geometry) and Newton's Physics would have been impossible without Indian Maths. The Iberian Voyages of Discovery actually used Indian Astronomy inherited from the Moors in Spain for Navigation to the New World and Indian Ocean, Pacific etc. In the 18th Century French astronomer Bailly and Scot astronomer Playfair, independently, showed that the Ancient Brahmin Astronomy was as good for all practical purposes (e.g. predicting eclipses) as the latest European models of Meyer and Cassini.

I also forgot to mention the Deccan Famine of 1630-32 associated with Shah Jahan's campaign in the Deccan which killed millions. I had thought that many had died in Bengal also due to the tribute stolen from Bengal by Shah Jahan to build this vanity project. The Mughals of course boasted ancestry from the barbaric Timur Lenk as well as Genghis Khan.

I haven't been to India before but I do have an adopted cousin who is from India. We have always treated her as a part of the family because she is ad we never looked at her as being any different from us. She actually made contact with her biological mother but her mother didn't want to have anything to do with her. At least she has been loved by a family that wanted her. I'm not sure if she has been to the Taj Mahal or not but it looks very beautiful there. Hope that you all continue to enjoy your adventures and that you always have safe travels.

The actual Indian architecture can be seen in south Indian temples like brihadishwara temple, Ajanta n Ellora caves etc ofcourse most of them were destroyed by mughals still they could not destroy them completely that's how much talented the ancient Indians were so the Hindu architecture.!!

Mumtaz was the 4th wife of Shah Jahan. Apart from Mumtaz, Shah Jahan also had at least 6 more wives and along with it, there were 8000 concubines in his harem. Before Mumtaz married to Shahjahan, Mumtaz was the wife of Shahjahan's Subedar Afghan Khan. To marry Mumtaz, Shah Jahan had killed Mumtaz's first husband. Mumtaz also had a son from Afghan Khan. Mumtaz died after the birth of her 14th child. After Mumtaz's death, Shah Jahan married Mumtaz's sister, Farzana.

until 1857 taj mahal used to be studded with diamonds and precious stones before those were looted in British rule. top spire of taj mahal used to be all gold, it got looted and replaced with a brass one. indian style fruit and flower gardens were cut and british lawns were grown.

There is always two ways to look at things. She was basically not his first wife and since she had to bear so many children, people have a different perspective towards the emperor's feelings for her. It's basic human nature. We always look at things from our own perspective and expect everything as we are used to. However, if we try to put ourselves in the timeline and shoes of the other person, then everything changes. 🍻

To all foreign tourists. Taj Mahal is an overhyped heritage site in India. Politically motivated historians created false stories about this structure. So not be fooled by all the exaggerated claims. Even a high percentage of Indians avoid visiting it. Ask the administration why the basement of the structure is sealed from people for ever.

Actually shah japan's wife (Mumtaj mahal) asked for 3 promises not 2. 1. To take care of her children. 2. To never marry again after her death. 3. To build heaven on earth for her after her death. So Taj Mahal was built from the same ideology representing heaven on earth for his wife. Also an interesting sad fact: all the workers and labours who worked on constructing Taj Mahal, their hands were chopped off so that no one else can build such a tomb ever again.

Is Taj Mahal worth the hype? Depends on how you see that. I noticed you praising those people who manually built those decorative stuff without modern instruments those days. Unfortunately the cruel emperor Shahajahan who built this decided to chop off the hands of all the 10,000 laborers who built that. On the beautiful queen’s story you narrated, her name is Mumtaz and she was the 8th wife of this emperor. She was already married with a child by the time this emperor set his eye on her. To marry her, he killed both her husband and kid and can imagine how happy she was to marry him. This emperor had a total of 14 wifes and he married 6 more women after she died for her love. So, is Taj Mahal worth the hype, depends on how you look into that
